That's what an Elder Orb is- one that, unlike normal beholders (which grow old and die before they reach huge size) is immortal and grows in size and power with age.

A small proportion of beholders turn out to be Elder Orbs as they age.

Yeah, pretty obvious... though I was surprised Queeny wasn't outraged at Wolf's doubts or surprise earlier.

A good idea Gez, but it might not be practical...

For one, we don't know that Lewie has/can produce enough of it within a reasonable timeframe to flood the entire cave network. For two, just because it won't dissolve non-drow doesn't mean they couldn't drown in it... and water would be so much easier if Lewie wanted to go that route.

I'm a little confused about today's update(2123 splathouse, for those of you in the future). Is that girl in the 7th panel Drymusa, and is she(or more accurately, was she) related to Nephilia? Younger sister maybe?

You know, the evilness of the drow really wears and makes it hard to sympathize with them as characters.
Most of the other "evil" races basically wear it like a hat, but drow take it way so seriously.
In conjunction with the Disney-esque art work, it's a little hard to stomach sometimes.

I don't get all this negativity toward Mhari in the story. She sounds like the ideal drow. Ruthless, ambitious, cunning. Isn't that what a drow is supposed to be?

Mhari is a drow Mary Sue. Perfect in her evilness. Remember how everyone loved her? Good at anything she sets her mind to.

Seriously, I love Mhari, she is the evil awesome we are told Arachne is. Pity she is fated to be killed.

Instead, she rebelled even against her goddess' wishes... Huh? And Wolf follows the authority of Arachne over that of his queen and his goddess... Double huh?

I hope there will be a reveal at the end of that arc that will show exactly what is Arachne's deal and provide a satisfactory explanation to these huge plot holes. Because while I joked earlier that the hierarchy goes royalty --> deity --> cartoonist --> cartoonist's wife; I kinda hope that it's not the in-universe explanation.
