Kyrill - Ex-Barbarian
Really? I shall have to avoid...pissing?...off your father and neighbor.
I have not heard of this Yarrin before. Tell me, what is he like?

Re: DnD 3.5 Campaign
"Well I can't say too much myself, but-," Amalie notices Ardan giving her a look, "Oh, listen, I got to go work, good luck." She grabs your food from the kitchen and quickly delivers it to your table before rushing off to other customers, nearly tripping twice.

Re: DnD 3.5 Campaign
The door to the inn pushes open, and in slips the muscled form of Kardgorr. Having appeased his curiosity of the common words on the street, he seats himself on the floor by the table where the others sit, keeping his mouth shut and ears open in this place

Kyrill - Ex-Barbarian
Kyrill leans over and quickly fills in Kardgorr on what he's missed and asks him if he found anything interesting on his jaunt.

Re: DnD 3.5 Campaign
Kardgorr shrugs. "The people are silent on the matter here -- the cult is not common speak. We will have to go higher for direction, I think." A smile creases the leathery green face, and a shrug over the shoulders though. "Supposedly plenty of mountain to climb here, though. Perhaps we will have a chance..."

Re: DnD 3.5 Campaign
Kyrill - Ex-Barbarian
Finishing his meal, Kyrill stands.
SpoilerHe doesn't do this until it seems everyone is finished talking. There were a few questions he asked that have gone unanswered so far. I'm not sure if the conversation is really over, but if no one speaks up, I don't have anything else to say, and I'm ready to find the plot!
"If there are no objections, I am going to get room (both for myself and one for Brigot), and then take a stroll around city myself. When Brigot comes back, we may have something to do. I should be back before dark falls. I think it good idea to agree to meet back at table tonight at (insert dinner time here). Before I go, I would like to have some idea of everyone's plans. Also, would anyone like to join me?"
SpoilerWhat time is it?
He lifts his bag off the ground, along with the bags from the mules, and walks over to the inn keeper. He introduces himself.
"Thank you for calming girl. I, too, would like room, sir. One for myself and another for my friend. One gold piece, yes?" He lowers his voice: "Here are three, if you will provide room with sturdy lock, and another piece for friend's room. I feel like taking walk. Do you have any recommendation?"
When the conversation finishes, Kyrill heads upstairs to his room and leaves behind the bags from his mules. He locks the door, and sets Irina to guard the room (she is a guard dog, after all ). He then begins to walk the streets, following any leads the innkeeper may have given him.
Spoiler
Gather information check for wandering the streets:
(1d20+1)[12]
I'm technically supposed to roll an amount of time for this check (1d4+1)[5], but he'll just stay out until he finally stumbles into a plot hook or night begins to fall. When dusk falls, he heads back to meet the group at the appointed time (unless you tell me that something happens or another member of the group stops him from going). This is mostly just a way to kill time 'till Brigot gets back or we find a plot hook and get rolling.

Re: DnD 3.5 Campaign
Finding the guards HQ was harder than Brigot had expected, but he asked directions and arrived there quickly enough. The building was small for an outpost, but still the biggest building in the area. The outside of the building was decorateed with murals carved into the marble. Standing at the entrance on either side were two armed and armored guards.
"Er... all rooms, I mean, all our rooms are the same quality, and I cannot in good consience, nor good wisdom, take your gold for something I cannot give you." Ardan looks a little dissapointed, but gives back the extra gold. "Here are the keys. A place to walk? Hmmm... well there's the art district, we have many talented artists here, our Lord Baril takes great interest in the arts."

Brigots walks up to one of the guards, compleatly relaxed. Hello, I was wondering if you would know who I should talk to in order to be hired as a specialist protecter? Brigot rattles off calmly. As he waits for a reply, Brigot tries to get an impression of how strong and skilled the guards are here.Spoiler: I'm a writer!Spoiler: Check out my fanfiction[URL="https://www.fanfiction.net/u/7493788/Forum-Explorer"here[/URL]

Re: DnD 3.5 Campaign
"Captain Garin is in charge of recruitment." the guard says simply.
His friend pipes up, "oh don't mind him, he thinks conversation should be kept to a minimum when on duty. Go right on in, take your first left, three doors down on your right."
(And a... wisdom check I guess for determining the skill of the guards.)

Brigot thanks the guards and follows their instructions looking for the captian they mentioned. He looks around trying to get a feel for the number of guards and how well armed they are.

SpoilerI want to expand that wisdom check to include as much info as possible about the guards. However I can't remember what my wisdom score is, I belive I had a +2 or a +1, but unless I miss the DC by 2 it shouldn't be a problem.

Re: DnD 3.5 Campaign
Kyrill - Ex-Barbarian
As they walk down the streets, Kyrill wipes his brow and looks away into the distance for a moment.
"No, you could say I am one-of-kind, and I do not mind your asking.
It is long story, but I will tell a little of it now. You see, I was once normal human-orc hybrid. But I was very bad man."
His eyes lose focus for a moment. He almost whispers what he says next.
"I led band of orc raiders called 'Fist of Yurtrus' in the far north. We did very bad things."
He starts to tremble a little, but then recovers.
"On one expedition, however, we found group of bears. We killed them--for fun. Or tried to. They nearly killed all of us. One of them bit me before I slew him. I think that is what did it.
"I was...changed. Whatever was in me saw how evil we were. It...caused me to kill Fist. It changed me outside, first, and I could not control. But over time it changed inside, too. My old life is like dream--or kashmar...nightmare?--and one I regret bitterly."
There are tears in his eyes, but a fire now, too.
"Does that make sense to you?"

Re: DnD 3.5 Campaign
She responds gently, sensing much pain in Kyrill
"A little I suppose... Kind of like the stories I hear from the countryside of wolves that can change men... but from you I'm guessing it's quite the opposite. From what I hear those creatures turn good men bad?.. So the bears were the opposite.."
drifting off she pauses, taking in his demeanor.
"At any rate Im glad to be adventuring in your company... your prescence does seem to keep unsavory folk away."Last edited by Erutaron; 2009-03-16 at 03:34 AM.

Re: DnD 3.5 Campaign
Kyrill - Ex-Barbarian
OOC:
SpoilerKyrill's probably going to be doing a mix, but sticking with the group. Seeing as how he doesn't want to draw attention to the group from the cult, he's not going to go up to someone and ask, "What do you know about the illegal cult?, seeing as how it'd just inform the cult that people are asking questions about them. It's mostly going to be asking people very vague and open-ended questions, and then honing in on the answers--like he did about the shipping guy. Questions not meant to reveal his true intentions. He'll ask about the city, pretending ignorance due to his being a traveler, and try to cash in on that perceived ignorance and naivete. A conversation about religion may hold some answers. It might even be that he feigns a conversation with Roth'ight about religion in a bar, in such a way as to draw others into talking about religion and philosophy, and perhaps let something slip.
He'll also be listening to others' conversations as he walks or "stops to sit and rest" in market places, but again, not being obvious about it. He's got a pretty solid listen check, so he ought to be able to hear from a distance. His scent ability might also give him an ability to smell people's emotions, like fear. That's up to you. It's not technically in the feat description, but science has shown that human women can smell fear on men, and it also added an interesting dynamic in the Wheel of Time series.
It may be that at the end of this, he only has a general idea of the mood of the city, whether people are fearful about something or not, or he may overhear some specific piece of information, or someone might say something suspicious that he has to ponder over. It's your call, of course.
Hopefully, by going about things this way, it allows you to write a narration of what we do, rather than a week-long back-and-forth between us. If we find your plot hook, great, if not, we'll wait for Brigot to get back with a job for us. But it has the ability to simplify things and allows stuff to happen much faster.

Re: DnD 3.5 Campaign
Kyrill - Ex-Barbarian
Spoiler
General mood of the city: is there something in the air, expectation of something, fear of something?
Crime: has anything strange happened recently, any murders, thefts, other crimes, disappearances, abductions? do people feel safe?
Events: any big events, such as the meeting between nobles? does anyone know what they're to discuss? any big holidays or something coming up?
Cult (no direct questions): who, what, why, how, anything?
People: famous people of the city, who are they, what do they do? who is this yarrin? who was the guy in the art district?
I already did one gather information check (12) in a spoiler describing when I left the inn, but if it's midday and it only lasts 5 hours, I suppose I could add a second one.
Check: (d20+1)[3]
Time involved: (1d4+1)[3]
EDIT: Yep, the second roll definitely added nothing at all... You'll find my original roll in a spoiler when I talk about my plans for leaving the inn. That's the second time I've rolled gather info, the first being when I talked to the waitress. This now brings me to 3 total.
Any other questions, Jallorn?

As the rest of the party breaks off to pursue their own agendas for the remainder of the evening, Kardgorr makes his way outside as well, eying the buildings around dubiously. Having already tried canvassing the local population, he's now looking at the roofs in this part of the city -- preferably for one that is rather flat and looks unused. And for dark alleys by unused buildings as well.

As Kyrill goes about his plan to find some kind of clue about the cult and what to do next, he turns to Gillian,
"I have been thinking, Gillian. If Brigot fails to procure work with guard, and we fail to find information on cult, we will need Plan C.
"You know ways of nobility, yes? If by tonight we know nothing, would you be willing to go speak with the nobles tomorrow about our task? If you will, you know best how to go about it. We can accompany you, or you can go alone."

Re: DnD 3.5 Campaign
As the three adventurers wander the streets, Gillian hears a woman talking to her friend. Since the two seem to be going the same way as the group, he doesn't say anything, but just listens, discovering information about almost everything and everyone, but the information that stands out the most is about a cult. It seems that a preacher visited alone, but left with a large group of people. He was seen talking to some shady characters however, and they were later seen to disapear into a dead end alley and never return out. There were also rumors about Yarrin knowing the preacher once.
(I'd like to have the other two members of the group catch up (timewise) before continuing with you guys, 'kay?)
The captain looks up from some paperwork on his desk and clears his throat, "Well, guards are always needed, do you know anyone in town who can vouch for you? We don't exactly trust newcomers foolishly."
Flat roofs are rather sparse in this town, due to the rainfall they sometimes get, and those that exist aren't too open to just anyone. There's no lack of alleys however, and even in the day there are more than a few dark ones.
