    since I can't hit your AC with anything but an natural 20, here's how it goes:

    evey hit deals some damage (which you probably can heal - average 14 fire and 12 physical). every hit also deals 5 INT damage and 1 CON damage. every 2 rounds I make an attack

    OK, you go first.

    I start the duel with Dark Foresight on myself since I can have it on all the time.

    Round One: When you snipe at me, I see your glowing, fiery projectile. Not only is it on fire and (probably) not invisible (and I can see invisible anyway) but it is magical so I automatically know where it is if it is within 120 ft due to my arcane sight. I take a move action (140 ft fly) towards the direction it came from. Are you within 120 ft now? If yes, you glow in my arcane sight. Even if you are protected by divinations, any magical abilities you used still leave an aura of magic in the area they were used.

    Tell me if I find you.

    actually I was counting on an other spell... Either way: you get hit in the back. so you don't see it comming


    that, and I don't think you see ranged weapons from sniping (what would be the use of taking a -20 on hide if they know where you are?)

    (it was so in 3rd, and I recon still in 3.5 - since 'see invisibility' otherwise be useless)

    detect magic doesn't reveal the location of hidden creatures.
    Not technically. But since you actually have nothing to hide behind in a featureless plane, you're probably hiding in plain sight. And arcane sight automatically reveals the location and strength of all magical auras in sight.
    So, word of advice? Take a lead-lined cloak and wear it over your normal items if you want to be a rogue. And use Nystyl's Magic Aura on your arrows.


    Actions:

    120-ft elcritch cone in the general direction the arrow came from. Reflex Save DC 42 for half of dmg - (16d6)[1][6][3][2][2][3][2][4][4][6][3][4][6][2][5][3](56) damage, followed by Fortitude Save (same DC) or be nauseated for 1 minute.

    I fly over the general area with my 140 ft fly speed. Spot check DC to notice the presence (but not location) of an inactive invisible creature within 30 feet is 40. Also note that you should be nauseated and thus unable to take any actions except for a single move action each turn.

    Question: what's the illumination of the arena? Because if it is brightly lit, the dark creature's HiPS doesn't work.

    IIRC HiPS of a dark creature doesn't have a limitation (I'll doublecheck when I have access to my books (which will be sundaynight/monday)) - tomb of magic if you have the book ...

    Having moved 100 ft ahead then 40 ft back from my original position towards the attack's general direction (so 60 ft towards said direction from my previous position), I use Eldritch Doom, 40 ft radius. Same DC for reflex, same DC for fortitude vs nauseation.

    (I could start using darkness and Enervating Shadow to become practically unfindable but that would be lame and result in a draw. Any update on the HiPS of the dark creature?)

    (2d6+20 damage if you pass through, 2d4 damage if you're within 10 ft of it, 1d4 if you're farther than 10 but within 20 ft. No save. Half the damage is not subject to resistance/immunity. The wall is opaque meaning you can't use ranged attacks or targeted/aimed spells through it)

    no need to write rounds though: since I presume you can cast restoration, It's only a matter of time before (a) you find a counter strategy or (b) you give up.

    My character typically has Foresight, See the Unseen, Darkness and Enervating Shadow up all day. Since this is a duel she started without the darkness/shadow.
    So yeah, this will probably end in a draw. Especially since she can ready actions to flee the scene each time you shoot, rendering your attacks moot.


    Finding hiding characters is just beyond her ability though. At least if they have prepared enough.

    btw: what I did (and why you missed me): I didn't snipe, but I can attack (or charge or run) with a -20 penalty on hide. So:
    • Mellee attack with a -20 on hide. Now, you can't see me (with a 20 on spot, you got my modifier with the -20 penalty) but you know where I'm striking from ... so:
    • 5 ft step to an other adjecent square


    so, what happened:
    • I'm within 120ft, and you don't see a projectile
    • cone in the direction from where I attacked, misses
    • move 60ft (100-40) and 40ft burst, also misses. ( close but no cigar)
    • a ring of fire 100 ft from you (95ft from me) really doesn't bother me


    probably, the Lisbeth would use diplomacy to win, no? (Snivnit will probably woun't leave hiding (he's VERY paranoid), but he'll stop attacking)

    As for winning, I'd eventually have filled the entire area with walls of fire.

    I just saw your sheet. You have to ride a carpet of flying in order to fly-I don't think you can hide with that. You need to change it for wings of flying so your fly speed is your own.


    Also, just checked the Dark Creature. Its Hide in Plain Sight is a joke; it only allows you to hide while being observed, not when you don't have cover or concealment (like other types of HiPS) and it does not work in bright illumination. You definitely need to find another class/template with HiPS.

    Finally, my enervating shadow is fortitude save or take a -4 strength penalty for 5 rounds if you come adjacent to me.

    actually you can.

    if you read hide (SRD) "If people are observing you, even casually, you can’t hide." thats why you need cover/concealment. Darks don't need that since they can hide even while observed
