C++ actually. I suppose netbeans would probably work since Java and C++ share lots of syntax. I don't suppose there is a windows version of vim? I mostly need this for my parents' computer, so installing linux would probably not go over well. There is a c++ compiler installed, so I don't need to worry about that.

^: I wish I knew. Actually, I wish I had continued on my education of programming languages...

Mhm. Though I must say, either it's rather spotty in its development in the populace in general or it's just a side effect of moving just before puberty hit and living in a community of immigrants from all over when I was a kid, but I don't really feel like I'm part of an "us" on the state level.

It's quite interesting to feel that disconnect there.

You deserve being smug. I wish I could see the Albert Hall, but the acoustics, even I could tell were excellent.

It's a good defence, and what I really feel. I don't see why some people believe it's that awesome.

Presumably if I leave the planet, I'm from Earth.

The difficulty lies in where US stops. Because eventually it does, and that's where wars happen. In the American Civil War, people's concept of "us" didn't really extend beyond the state they lived in: A person was a Georgian first, a Southerner second, and an American last of all. People in the north may have been Americans, but they were Northerners. Pennsylvanians. Not Us.

(For my ancestors, it was the southerners who were Thems). And it was after the war that things started to reverse so that people were American first, West Coaster second, Washingtonian third.)

    Sorry. It's interesting.
    I know.
And when it gets to such a small place like Britland Us and Them goes very deep. There's even a secondary school Us, Them and Those People because we have three secondary schools.
And the Us and Them dichotomy is fascinating and yes, politically important. I've often wondered how far Us and Them has affected literature.
Answer: all literature is Us and Them, but often it's family v. family or country v. country and not often dwelt on.

That's because, at least in the region where I live, the whole "state Us" thing is largely no longer existent. Somehow, post-Civil War, we became more about The Country and less about The State.

I only get frisky about people I want to seduce, myself. I'm just too staid to get all up for it unless there's a possibility of romance in it.

That might just be the spoony bard in me though.

    haha. Spoony bard.

Hmm. I wonder if the fascination cats have with boxes and cubby holes to hide in is from some kind of carry over from when they lived in deserts and would bed down in little nooks, crannies, and caves... My brother's cat just crawled into a little flat space in my bedside bookshelf, almost tipping the phone in there over.

I found the same thing here in Michigan. There is, however, a very deep divide between Detroit and Everywhere Else.

^: Something lewd, Cobra. Something quite lewd. involving pink and box as keywords. Curly is another keyword, but that's a given.

<_< I think that's because there's two camps on Detroit. The camp that lives there that think everyone should be moved out of it and the place wiped off of the map and replaced with something where people would want to live and the camp that just thinks it should be wiped off the map with the people who live there still in it.

I think he is accusing you of being afraid of Curly's feminine side. I think. She is an intimidating person, though, in my mind, it has more to do with her impressive posting ability than her use of feminine wiles. Then again, all women are scary because of their feminine wiles. Such things are not for mere mortals(i.e. men) to grok.

Then there is the camp that thinks that everybody outside the city is out to get the city and its denizens. Then there is the camp that just wants to dance as it burns. Hence Devil's night.

I dunno, I'd quite enjoy being able to grok a dame like Curly or Deary.

Now as to whether that's possible, I guess we'd just have to find out the hard way.

My tactic is to simply assume all women are out of my league, as it's most likely true. It makes it sooo much easier to be comfortable around someone if you don't think there's any chance of a relationship happening.

Then, if they do end up liking you...hey! Pleasant surprise AND and ego boost! Awesome! =P

Cobra does not advocate this as a valid tactic for wooing women. Rather, Cobra acknowledges his incompetence when it comes to the art of romance and wishes everyone the best in such endeavors.

So tell them you're starting with a trim and ask for about an inch off to start with and then go from there?

I mean, as long as you communicate with them, they generally won't do anything to actively go against your wishes.
