You can be the one to make the thread, while the thread is being approved we could start the buffer comics.

Re: Our Comic Lab in the Playground: An experimentation class
Soo...I've had an idea for a comic bouncing around in my head for a while, and I was wondering if I could get some feedback on it. This is all bare-bones and preliminary, of course.
Essentially it's a superhero story that takes place about 10 years after a legion of supervillains defeated the setting's primary superheroes. Ever since they've ruled the world, which, of course, is bad news for most the world's denizens.
The story follows a man by the name of Dewey Steele, whose superhero friend was murdered by the new regime as they took control. Nowadays he works as a janitor for a paper company in a city (which shall be named...when I think of a name). He witnesses the murder of a supervillain, the Red Swordsman, who works for the world government, by a group of agents also working for the administration that suspect (falsely) that he has rebel ties.
After the agents depart, Dewey touches the Red Swordsman's (superpowered and sapient) sword, which telepathically bonds to him and grants him powers. After trying and failing to get rid of the sword and saving a defenseless man from a group of the regime's soldiers, he eventually resolves to fight against the supervillainous government as the Crimson Avenger.
Concept art for the main character (in costume):
Simple little banner:
Also...I've got two ways to start the story, as I see it. I can either begin with Dewey captured, being tortured and interrogated by the regime's agents. Most of the story (until it catches up to the present, anyway) would be Dewey telling his captors everything that happened up to this point. I like this method because it allows me to provide easy narration, and because it would be the more interesting and exciting way to begin. The biggest downside is that it forces me to remain in the viewpoint of one character (Dewey) at all times; I'll never be able to cut to the villains planning their evil...plans, or anything like that.
The other method is merely to start from the very beginning, without the restraints of the "flashback" thing. Any suggestions?
...Wow, this post turned out a lot longer than I expected.

Re: Our Comic Lab in the Playground: An experimentation class
I like the idea, and I would almost definitely follow it.
How dystopian is the government?
Also, I'd suggest maybe changing his name. Yeah, making up serious original superhero/villain names is hard.

You could do it Lost style with multiple people having flashbacks.

Re: Our Comic Lab in the Playground: An experimentation class
Fairly dystopian. Society still functions, more or less, but it's not exactly pleasant for most of those involved. Citizens are opressed pretty severely, and anyone who develops superpowers is either forced to work for the regime or executed. Seeing as most of these supervillains don't exactly have much to work toward any more, they concern themselves with doing horrible things to people for fun and trying to elevate themselves in the government itself. And crushing any revolutionary movements.
Also, I'd suggest maybe changing his name. Yeah, making up serious original superhero/villain names is hard.

Re: Our Comic Lab in the Playground: An experimentation class
I really like the sound of this comic (even though I don't completely understand it from the description. Then again, I am a thicko. ) and I particularly love how somebody has taken into account the backstory with flashbacks like me before jumping into a story. It makes for good setting up of great events and, when done REALLY well, can really mess with the audience and give a great twist to the story.
I can't see any reason why you can do both. Have the entire thing be the main character's flashback but still, with perhaps a subtle change in the painting of the fourth wall (if you understand what I'm trying to say), you can flash back to somebody else's flashback completely different from the main flashback.
Double curses! I was going to make that be Bowser's nickname for Mario!Last edited by Green-Shirt Q; 2010-02-21 at 07:07 PM.

Re: Our Comic Lab in the Playground: An experimentation class
Well, Red Avenger is pretty simple, and I figured I that would be a pretty good quality in a nickname. I kinda like it so I might just keep it that way.
I do like the name Scarlet Crusader, though. And Crimson Knight. I might change it to Red Scarlet Crimson Avenger Crusader Knight!
Or just the Scarlet Knight. Or Crimson Crusader. That last one's alliteration!
I'll roll a 6-sided dice later to decide. Thanks again, Randomizer.AVATAR BATTLE ROYALE!
