Re: Getting [Steam]-Rolled 9
Hard Rain would be a lot better if it wasn't completely impossible for survivors to die on maps 1 and 4. And if it didn't give enough equipment for two trips in the saferooms, and then respawn it the second time you're there anyway. And if the water actually did enough to make it preferable to stay out of it, so people wouldn't just ignore the high up routes because they're pointless.
But it's not bad in coop I guess.

Re: Getting [Steam]-Rolled 9
I disagree. There have been a number of times I've orchestrated a full TPK, and a few times its happened to me. Its all about placement and coordinating attacks. Now granted the 4th is very hard to do that with but the first is long enough with several places that you can inflict large amounts of damage. Also it's well done in a pacing sense. After the nightmare of 2 and 3 you are given a brief reprieve before the finale.

Re: Getting [Steam]-Rolled 9
Hadn't noticed the bias toward SI in versus Hard Rain, both teams just require good communication (microphones, with the ability to tell where they are, especially in Realism). It's a good map, with great opportunities for the Survivors to hole up while there's a horde, and equally so for Infected players with corridors, places of no return and hiding places for Spitters and Smokers. I'd say it's a great map for versus too.
The Passing can be trickier with realism, but that might have to do with the relative newness of the map. Swamp Fever is something different however.

Re: Getting [Steam]-Rolled 9
I believe this is patently untrue, especially with the new versus fix.
A large part of the problem is that the first and fourth maps are fairly simplistic, and have no crescendo. There are a number of places to hole up, and it's generally easy to fight off the infected.
That said, with the new versus fix (no longer spawning 4 bats, which I think is across the board in realism AND normal), holding out against a horde becomes much harder. Additionally, I've seen well-organized infected teams pull full wipes on both 1 and 4. The problem is that it's hard to manage a single kill: those maps are usually all or nothing.
The second, third, and finale maps more than make up for it. They're long enough to see some serious score differences, and really challenging for survivors under the best of circumstances.

Re: Getting [Steam]-Rolled 9
What? No. The problem is that they're incredibly short, so infected don't get a chance to do enough damage to matter. Like Parish 1. You don't need to hole up, you just stay on the move, and the map's over before you know it. And they both spawn enough melee weapons to outfit at least half the team, which is more than enough to deal with hordes, especially when you use the throwables the game gives you in the saferoom/start.
And yeah, it is possible to get wipes, but it really shouldn't happen, unless there's incredibly good luck involved, or one team is awful compared to the other. Even when I'm playing with randoms who have no clue, and we make like 25% of the distance the other team makes in map 2 and 3, we still always finish 1 and 4 with no real difficulty. They're terrible maps.

Re: Getting [Steam]-Rolled 9
Your also missing the point that not every map requires a wipe. Parish 1 is all about dealing enough damage for incap+kill at the car alarm. It has little to do with luck and far more with knowing how to set up and when to attack. But yes it is still hard, which is why the shorter maps are all about winning the damage bonus.

Re: Getting [Steam]-Rolled 9
Yeah, which is stupid. Playing for damage bonus is boring as hell. Just fail to do anything important repeatedly, and hope you fail slightly better than the other guys. Real fun. Maybe someone will get hit by a witch and be forced to heal, and... it won't do anything at all, because she's not included in the damage count at the end of the level.
I mean, damn, you can have the 25 points, as long as we can skip this map and actually play something fun.

Re: Getting [Steam]-Rolled 9
Does anyone know how to move around in sourceTV demo's? For some reason it places the camera below the map. I would like to make or try to make a cool video of the random **** we get up to. But to do this, I need to be able to use the .dem files created by sourceTV.

Re: Getting [Steam]-Rolled 9
On Highlander: Sigh. I have a fair chance of finally being able to afford a day pass at the cybercafe this week, and I've been wanting to play Highlander for years... but it looks like my RPG group is restarting this Saturday, after months of waiting. Looks like I'm not meant to play in events.
Damn you for getting all the hats I really want!
At this rate, you're going to craft away a Stainless Pot and a Kabuto next."I don't approve of society, so I try not to participate in it."

Re: Getting [Steam]-Rolled 9
STOP GETTING HATS I LIKE BECAUSE I WANT EITHER THE MIRROR OR FACEMASK.
Curse you is all I'm saying Onasuma. Curse you so hard
Only 30 more scrap metal before I craft my Medic hat. Bet it's the Tyrolean.
Here is a list of things I rage about:
Onasuma getting hats
Bad luck
Not having the Pain Train
The Equaliser
People taking health while I'm a Medic
People taking health packs with the Equaliser out while I'm a Medic so I can't even heal them
Walking into Crockets
Walking into crit pipes
Seeing Spies and getting stabbed by them
Seeing Spies and inexplicably healing them despite knowing they are a Spy
Doing so, then getting stabbed
Seeing crits and dodging into them
Falling off the platforms on Nucleus
People who interrupt Sandvich parties
The Equaliser
People who use the Equaliser
People who get the Equaliser out when you are healing them
People who get the Equaliser out when you are ubering them
People who condone the Equaliser
That is all.Last edited by Dogmantra; 2010-04-26 at 03:13 PM.

You know those bastards with SC2?
Yeah, now I'm one of them.
Funny thing is that my preorder came through with a beta the same time as it showed up on my bnet profile.
Hooray?

Re: Getting [Steam]-Rolled 9
L4D2 works now, properly without silly crashes or white pistols or stainless steel chrome shotguns.
The one small flaw is that I have to play with Medium Shader Detail rather than Very High but they're working on a fix for the problem. I won't tell you you're mean if you invite me to a game again. If there's anyone out there who hasn't done The Passing yet, or wants to do it again, bearing in mind I will be playing for the first time and want to take it slowly and probably on normal, I would like to hear from you.BANG → !
