Need a new manga!
Most of the manga series I read are either completed, or I've cought up with the releases thus far, and I'm getting sorta tired of spending an hour or two browsing the manga at the bookstores and not coming up with anything that interests me, so I thought I'd ask if anyone has any good suggestions for me. :)
Here's a few of my favorites:
Angle Sanctuary
Vampire Game
Kenshin
Descendants of Darkness
Revolutionary Girl Utena
Model
.hack Legend of Twliight
Devil May Cry (manga and the novel)
Vampire Hunter D (novels)
I know most if the guys probably think it's a fairly girly list. Sorry. Anyone got any suggestions. Thanks in advance!Tiferet: So, can I be the apprentice Logic Ninja? ;D &&&&The Logic Ninja: Yes! You may be my apprentice, and together... we will SHOW THEM ALL! MWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... ahem.&&&&Thanks to Sneak for the wonderful avatar

Re: Need a new manga!
Magic Knight Rayearth, (try to find the book called Princess Prince, though it's rare) Loki Ragnarok
the last are shoujo comedies, so you should like them okay. Actually, I don't know if Loki is classified as shoujo, but it seems that way to me.
Oh, and Utena if you don't mind shoujo-ai.
Obviously you don't mind it...since you have it and all...
RG Veda is another good Shoujo
and Ceres...of course her other mangas are good too...I'm just...gonna go now..

Re: Need a new manga!
Blade of the Immortal. Now there is a good story with good action.
For amusement factor, and if you can find them, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.
Ranma 1/2 is a classic.
As well, to continue in the shonen realm of things, Flame of Recca is nice as well.
I hear the Excel Saga manga is wackier then the show.(Haven't read it)
I hear the Tsukhime manga is pretty good(Haven't read it)
Do not worry. There is nothing wrong with shoujo manga. Just a different aspect on telling a story.
I'm sure I'd have other series to suggest, but nothing is popping into my head.

Re: Need a new manga!
I'm gonna throw my hat in and say "Full Metal Alchemist", but just because it's about the only one I like. And if it's the only one I like, and you like all of those, then our tastes probably differ slightly.
Think about it, though!

Death Note is excellent, good story, fast moving plot, and good characters. I highly reccomend it, and if you're not in a country where it's licensed you can find it online.

Re: Need a new manga!
I particularly like Chobits. suprising depth for a manga, woulda been a bestselling novel, IMO. Shojo romance, i think, for a category.

Re: Need a new manga!
If you like zombie horror/action with a nice western twist thrown in, try Priest. Some folk hate it, some like it. I am fairly upset with Tokyopop for printing the things western style. The print all their other books proper manga style, but not Priest. Ah, well.
Also, for a nice three parter (priest is up to 15 I think or 20?) Deus Vitae is a good read. Heavy nudity, usually gratuitous too, which drops it a couple of marks in my mind, but it's their story, so meh. Story is quite good though, and very rereadable, as I recently read through them again and enjoyed them just as much as the first read.Adjudicator

Re: Need a new manga!
I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Love Hina. Quirky enough to please one's love of the ridiculous, but with enough plot, character development (and cheese...) to make it a good story.

Cromartie High School, this little gem is packed with hilarity. I've read the first three volumes and I still enjoy rereading them.

Re: Need a new manga!
the only Manga I have ever liked was the Intial D and the samurai X series (including ruroni Kenshin)
If you already haven't i would suggest reading the Samuari X series, which is before Rurouni Kenshin when he was the botosai still. It tend to have a much darker feel though.Originally Posted by Newtiburon on Final Fantasy XIII

Re: Need a new manga!
Full Metal Alchemist was already recommended and I need to second that. I start reading translations a year before it came out on Cartoon Network and in stores and I knew it was going to be amazingly popular.
I am a chick so I tend toward girly manga. My bookshelf is:
Love Hina
Negima (same guy as Love Hine but Harry Potter style, kinda)
Those who Hunt Elves (HYSTERICAL)
Full Metal Alchemist
Girls Bravo
Steel Angel Kurumi
The straight chick stuff I like (that a guy prolly wouldnt be interested in and my boyfriend is ashamed to have displayed in his house) are:
Boys Be
Gals
I just started a new one:
Midori Days-I really liked Volume 1. It was cute and quirky. The school "soft-hearted" tough guy who has a "devil's right hand" and cant get a girl to save his life suddenly has a girl on his right hand. Seriously, his right hand is a girl. Worth checking out. =)
Good luck!

Re: Need a new manga!
I'm gonna have to embarass myself and recommend Card Captor Sakura, simply because it's my favourite manga.
Also, if you don't mind anime instead, Serial Experiments Lain is awesome, and the English dub is actually good.
(Speaking of anime, Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star are also good and follow the "surprisingly good dub" way of thinking, too...)

Well, seeing as it has already been said, I can merely throw my support in for Ranma 1/2. So, I second Ranma.

Re: Need a new manga!
Trigun, anyone? anyone?. Both the manga and the anime are quite good (Though both are finished). It's a good mix of humor, action, guns, badassery, western, somewhat sci-fi (It's set on another planet, low-tech though). I recommend picking up the first volume and giving it a read.

I'd like to recommend Case Closed. It's a detective manga, and absolutely fantastic. Several highly memorable characters, and very intelligent plots.
Saga of Soul: Not your Typical Magical Girl Story.

Re: Need a new manga!
Ah, Kerero Gunso - extremely funny parody manga. It has a lot of Gundam references, so if it's even better if you're a big Gundam fan, but it's still quite funny if you aren't.
I'm going to throw my support behind Azumanga Daioh, which is a wonderful little series. It's amusing and can be very touching at the same time (and occasionally wacky). The manga - or, more often and more accurately, yonkoma - aren't quite as wacky as the anime can get. I personally suggest both reading the series and then watching the anime, since they're fairly different.
Love Hina is a favorite of mine, but I must admit it starts to drag in the last few books. But, it's still a lot of fun, particularly for a somewhat stereotypical harem manga (it breaks a few of the conventions to good effect). I can't stand the anime adaption, though.
For shoujo, I've been told that Nana is quite excellent (I found the anime boring and haven't had any interest in digging up the manga or live action film adaptions). Boys Over Flowers (Hana Yori Dango, more literally Boys before Flowers) is also supposed to be quite good.
CLAMP already has several recommendations here (Chobits, Cardcaptor Sakura, RG Veda, Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE, Magic Knight Rayearth), but they certainly deserve them. They're also responsible for Angelic Layer and xxxholic (which crosses over into Tsubasa), both of which I found interesting but not quite my cup of tea, and X (aka X/1999), which I found way too angsty and melodramatic, but has a really interesting story behind it.
Moving away from shoujo again, a few classics: Miyazaki is best known for his films, and not as a mangaka, but the manga version of Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind is even better than the film (and has a lot more in it), and one of the most epic and well told stories I've ever read. It has a wonderful, unique setting, and interesting characters. I'd look for the most recent manga release, the seven volume, full sized one from Viz (it has the correct right-to-left format and leaves in the Japanese sound effects, which means the art hasn't been messed with).
Another classic well worth the read is Akira. Just about everyone has seen the film version, but there's a lot more to the story that you can only get in the manga. It's a very long series - six or seven volumes that are quite thick - but reads fairly quickly. Just be prepared for a fair bit of gore, and for people yelling each other's names back and forth a LOT.
Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please. - Mark Twain

In other news, Chobits is not girly, it's another "male" series.
Mars, Marmalade Boy, Azumanga Daioh, Confidential Confessions, and almost all of the stuff my Clamp or Yu Watase are actually the "girly" comics.
