Re: Keychain of Creation IV: The Lore Thing
I'm betting on them searching for the entance to a hidden manse. Misho already knew where one was, so him knowing of another is no great stretch.
As for the little golden thingy in his hands I suspect he's crafting something. While mechanically speaking that happens with one rolll per [some, usually unacceptably long, interval of time] until they get enough banked successes, and in the case of solars who at all value their time that whole interval is spent in a workshop in order to not suffer penalties however I suspect Jukashi is showing it being created gradually rather than what mechanically happens (pile of stuff, roll1, wait, roll2, wait, roll3, pile of stuff magically transmuted into Bright Edge, Orichalcum Reaper Daiklaive.)
Not sure about the reference though. I thought it was LotR at first but that bird makes me suspect otherwise.

Re: Keychain of Creation IV: The Lore Thing
It's not just a question of genes, also one of diet, especially during the formative years. (Like how Japanese women now need bigger bra sizes than their grandmothers because richer food than fish is plentiful and hard to avoid now.) Marena was trained to be a queen and wife; Karen to be a warrior.
Furthermore, Marena is now a shapeshifter anyway.
I tried binging to find back the comic where she offered secret to help her get a fuller figure, but didn't and figured enough time had passed for me to be ninjaed by a dozen persons and for the topic to have drifted on to another subject.Hark! An avatar drawn by Kate Beaton!

You know, when I saw Glyph as the last posted, I was worried he'd locked the thread or something.
Then I remembered webcomics isn't under his jurisdiction, and I was relieved.

Re: Keychain of Creation IV: The Lore Thing
Fixed it for you.
Frankly that head looks a lot like an unfortunate Blood Ape to me, and frankly, Erymanthoi, on a scale of one to ten, rank about a negative 2 when it comes to difficulty summoning and binding. If there aren't more, the sorcerer was probably brain damaged. My Homestuck role is Thane of Space of the Land of Insanity and Frogs.
The Malkavians would be proud.

Re: Keychain of Creation IV: The Lore Thing
On a threat level, Blood Apes rank only about a 2 or 3 out of 10, since they have crap for Dex, low dots in Melee and Martial Arts, and crappy Charms. That they scratched Karen means they must be deployed in some fairly hefty numbers or else backed by something with more backbone.
I'd be more worried about Tomescu. Those things get free counterattacks and have some serious combat training.

Re: Keychain of Creation IV: The Lore Thing
Woah, that's way more awesome than I was expecting. I'm almost tempted to ask if I can put it up as a guest comic.
I did kinda have a backstory for Flame planned out already, though, as you probably expected. And it's different in many respects, though I never planned on revealing it any time soon. Something to consider. Can I assume I can put this up on the fanart page, anyway?
And if you like, as a little payment for that excellent comic, I'll tell you what I had imagined Flame's backstory to be.
SpoilerHe was a sort of anthropologist/scavenger lord; tracing the lineage of cultures from the first age to figure out treasures and lore they might retain, learn their ways, then find out where they keep the ancient tablets or whatever. And his adventures in the south eventually put him on the wrong end of a sacrificial knife. Of course, in Creation, if you ritually kill people in the same place every day for years... that sort of thing can have consequences.

I'm pretty sure I emailed you this comic a little while ago, actually. My account's been on the fritz, though, so it probably didn't get sent.

Re: Keychain of Creation IV: The Lore Thing
No, I've fallen into that trap once before.
Although if I were going to do that, he would have been a heroic mortal as a heavy-metal Orpheus, who travelled to a Shadowland in an attempt to get hiswifeloveband back from the dead. Instead, he got his eyes torn out (although dialogue in his the manse-battle suggests he removed them voluntarily, so I dunno), and was offered a Black Exaltation. Now he and his ghostly band serve the Neverborn, with sweet tunes!
And if I were going to do that, I'd blackline the whole thing rather than mucking about with the "unlined pre-Exaltation, lined whenever an Exalt is onscreen" stuff.
And I'd do it on smaller pages, panel-by-panel, rather than doing the whole thing on one page.
But I'm not going to, so what I have or haven't learned from this escapade is moot. Thanks to Andraste for the Void avatar.

Re: Keychain of Creation IV: The Lore Thing
Because if and when I finish and post it, Jukashi will inevitably reply with an infinitely better rendition of the backstory, which will leave me feeling inadequate.
A thought that does amuse me now, however (and if I had any skill at photoshop or KoC-style art I might try to fancomic it), is that after the art upgrade, there will be basically no difference in how Flame looks. He's a skeleton, he already has stick-arms! How very depressing for him. Thanks to Andraste for the Void avatar.
