"I guess the best we can do is get across and see if Shadow can pick up the scent again.....but I'm worried about us being able to get across safely. Can you pull up that rock now or is it still stuck?"

Well come on! Antal shouts. However, he does his best to lose the paladins in a twisting maze of turns. He does head in the direction of the spot they were at, but all with the intention of losing the paladins, without revealing that to them.

Edit: Well, we can always take 10 and add....assuming I can roll 11 on a handle animal check, we can get 16+Str score of whoever's the primary puller. If that fails.....I'm not sure how much we need the rock back....

Aamir and Thalia, a halfling paladin, quickly fall behind, but Keon (barely) is keeping up with your winding twists and turns. "Is this complex of a route necessary?"

Like I said, Antal calls back, I don't know the exact location, just the path we took. Antal decides this paladin is keeping up just well enough that he'll lose precious time trying to lose him. Time for a new tactic. He begins to keep his eye out for a good hiding spot as he winds through the streets, waiting for a moment when he's out of sight to hide.

You easily find a hiding place between two barrels and under a tarp and dart in. Keon's clanking footsteps run by, turn around, and come back. He lifts the tarp and looks down on you. "I believe we are attempting to find your friend, not to play childish games. His life is in peril and you hide. I will not ask you to fight, but you must lead me to him."

It takes a few really good tugs, but the rock ends up jerking free of whatever had it stuck to the bottom of the hole.

When you pull it up, the most noticable thing is that the rope isn't as grimy as it should be. The second thing is that there are pale blue strands of something that looks vaguely like taffy mixed with dirt stuck to one side of the rock.

Moderate Conjuration. It brings to mind things crawling over your bare skin, the feel of blue and the visions of grease (or is it the other way around? You can't tell). Iil'ssaran.

Rana peers a little more closely at the blue stuff. "You know, this kinda looks like the web of a huge spider....but blue. And a spider web wouldn't hold the rock down as strongly as this did...." She frowns.

Ajadea, you said the rope isn't as grimy as it should be. Can we tell anything about the contents of the hole from what is on the rope? Or what isn't, I suppose

There really doesn't seem to be much in the hole, judging by the rope. There are long streaks of slime, but the rope isn't coated in the slime like it should be.

Audric shuts his eyes for a moment. When he opens them again,he has a pinched expression, like he has just experienced a bad taste. "I don't know what it is, but it's magic. Conjuration, again, like in the alley. The... aura is quite similar, too. And it's definitely Iil'ssaran's doing."

"You know, looking at the rope, I'm thinking that the hole isn't really filled with slime. I-I think Antal may have been right, wanting to climb down into it. Plus, Shadow lead us here. I was thinking he was stopped by not being able to go across the hole, but what if what he was tracking went down the hole? How would he have known to stop before he fell in if the scent continued on the other side?" She shivers slightly. "But if I'm wrong and we go down there...." Her voice trails off.

"We don't really have that much of a choice, do we? Antal is missing, and we don't have any other clue. I'll take a look down there, and if it seems clear, I'll try to climb down. You two hold the rope for me in case something happens." He hesitates for just a second "If something happens to me, I'd be grateful if you let Kalan know. He is a paladin at the temple.". Then he proceeds to tie the rope around his waist, taking his time to make sure the knot is solid enough, and kneels at the side of the hole, taking a deep breath before poking his head on the other side of the illusion.

((Well, if Llaars and Rana are helding the rope, and noone stops him at least. ))

"Be careful." Rana looks worried but still slightly relieved that she won't be the one sticking her head in first. While Audric is working on the knot, Rana instructs Shadow to help hold the rope, then takes her place holding it.
