Re: Masa's Massively Masterful Message Medium - Random Banter #146
I don't think they did Pluto actually, although this was before the poor chthonic bastard was demoted.
edit
In perusing an accounts book from 1900 at work today, I found between the pages a few loose papers fastened with a pin that has turned to rust and stained the pages between which it is sandwiched. What is correct, to remove the pin and save further damage to the paper, or keep it the way it is for ... I don't know, historical accuracy?Last edited by Kneenibble; 2010-08-18 at 04:03 PM.

On the topic of haunting music, if you slow down Justin Bieber 800% you get... this. An etheric journey through sound. (note: it is quite long)

Re: Masa's Massively Masterful Message Medium - Random Banter #146
That makes sense, I never really understood the concept of solar winds (science is not a strong point of mine).
So would other alien species and planets be able to pick up these vibrations or no?
Ooooh, any links?
And now I have an answer of sorts to my question ^. Planets could pick up the spider vibrations.
Alas, poor Pluto, I knew him Iupiter.
Not to mention many people believe he was named after Mickey's dog.
Pluto's situation couldn't get any worse unless we suddenly reclassified him as a very large asteroid.
Or possibly that it's Charon which is the dwarf planet, and Pluto the moon.

Best to remove it I think. You could put it in a little bag and store it along with the loose papers, for completions sake.
Rusty pins are pretty cool though. Actually most rusty stuff. As long as you're not, say, relying on it to hold your weight or not kill you or something.

Sir, I foresee tyrant madness the likes of Mr. Burns and his casino and the Spruce Moose incident.
Jupiter is my favourite. Amazon.com has .mp3s for sale, although being the rebel dredges that they are, they won't sell digital music to Canada.
That's a good idea, and I agree about rust. Although now I'm going to have to caress it with my salad fingers and creep out the poor student assistant at the next desk.Last edited by Kneenibble; 2010-08-18 at 04:19 PM.

Re: Masa's Massively Masterful Message Medium - Random Banter #146
I have no idea who this chap is, but that's very pretty music that.
Not to mention tetanus.
Best thing to do is to put it in a bag with a little note saying where the pin was found. Posterity and all.
EDIT:
I also think that rust can harm books.
*headdesk*
Foxed. The book will become more foxed. And being foxed is a bad thing.
Plus eventually the decay will allow you to get high from the old books.
More prettiness. Iupiter sounds a lot like Bieber actually.
Therefore: Bieber is from Iupiter.
My logic is impeccable.Last edited by CurlyKitGirl; 2010-08-18 at 04:25 PM.

Re: Masa's Massively Masterful Message Medium - Random Banter #146
I see that Spidermew already has given some mumbo-jumbo pseudoscience answer to this (), but I can at least say that sound waves requires that molecules hit molecules for the sound to spread. In vacuum, there's obviously nothing to hit, but when there starts to be a thin atmosphere, molecules will start hitting (on*) eachother, and soundwaves can spread. The denser the atmosphere, the easier will it be to hit something, allowing the sound to travel faster and, since there will be more molecules to start the chain with, be louder.
*Sorry, I just had to sneak that in there for the giggles.
We'll have to speed Jupiter up 800% and see if they still sound like each other. For SCIENCE!Last edited by Teddy; 2010-08-18 at 04:37 PM.

Re: Masa's Massively Masterful Message Medium - Random Banter #146
Yeah, I listened through the entire song. It's over half an hour long (I was doing other stuff while listening), and at the end feels like it doesn't actually have an ending, because everytime you think it ends, it starts again. But yeah, it's epic.
EDIT: Started listening to the original song, and it certainly isn't epic. This poses a new question: Will slowing down any song by 800% automatically make it epic no matter what song it is, or are there exceptions?Last edited by Teddy; 2010-08-18 at 05:23 PM.

Re: Masa's Massively Masterful Message Medium - Random Banter #146
I would think that the space-spiders, once finished with all life on the planet, would move on to consume the very crust, leaving the body itself to drift apart. Of course this is a more terrifying situation for me, because then this web would affect me as well.
Yeah. That's what I assume happens to victims of Headcrabs, they can feel and sense everything, they just don't have any control as their body is mutilated and they beat their friends to death with their bare hands.

Re: Masa's Massively Masterful Message Medium - Random Banter #146
I would say yes. Perhaps if there was some sort of muti-species, space faring society, the signal caused by those creatures and their crystalline structure would end up becoming some cosmic legend, as a warning of their approach.
What if such creatures were drawn towards the radio and television type frequency's we use today. Any race that develops radio or television technology and doesn't keep the signals from going out into space, draws their attention. What if they feed on it?

Grats on the A*-Level results Fred
Jupiter is one of the weaker songs from The Planets, at least in my opinion. It goes on for too long and doesn't really stick to a theme, unlike Mars, with its thundering horns or Neptune with it's cold and distant twinkling sounds. Neptune is probably my favourite.

My family made me eat cake.
Now I'm sad, because cake is the last thing I need right now.
