Re: Sarloc's Heir [IC]
Everyone quickly exits the room as Thokk slides off the stone lid of the sarcophagus, only to return just as quickly when they hear Thokk's triumphant cry (and no explosion).
Gathering around the open stone box, the party sees an ancient mummified corpse, its burial finery long ago rotted away. In good shape, however, are (1) an ornate silver brooch in the shape of a shield over the mummy's chest, (2) a silver chalice held in the mummy's hands, (3) some kind of stone that seems to have been placed inside the mummy's mouth, and (4) a small lacquered chest at the mummy's feet.

Re: Sarloc's Heir [IC]
Graevic
* Still smoldering lightly from the scorching, Graevic chants quietly, then gently presses his hand on Taern's shoulder, transferring healing energies into the stout barbarian. Once the sarcophagus is opened, Graevic begins chanting again. Once completed, he closely examines the contents of the sarcophagus *
[OOC: Casting cure light wounds on Taern, assuming she is still somewhat injured. Then casting detect magic on the sarcophagus. If I detect anything, I'd like to concentrate to discern the types of magic]

Re: Sarloc's Heir [IC]
Linda the White
As Linda returns to see the insides of the sarcophagus she notices Graevic starting to cast his healing spell in close proximity to the sarcophagus.
"NOOO!!! Every one stand back at once!"
If Graevic stops in time before casting any spells (and the trap does not trigger) she will go on:
"I was about to tell you. The sarcophagus reacts to magical energy. It reacted to my casting once so it may react again-the flamestrike was the reaction!"
If all you have is a hammer, don't be lazy; be a blacksmith and start making more stuff.

Graevic, Human
[OOC: Assuming I can stop]
* Greavic blinks with supries at Linda's comment, quickly halting his gestures and chant. *
"I....I'm sorry...I didn't know. I will be more cautious."
[If I wasn't able to stop, I guess I'll need to do some saving throws again. :) ]

Re: Sarloc's Heir [IC]
Graevic's healing spell had already taken effect before Linda's warning, but no flame strike is triggered. (Nor were there any problems with the five other cure light wounds that Linda already cast. ;))
Fortunately, however, Linda stops Graevic before he attempted to detect magic.
OOC: Whew! I was about to ask for another round of Reflex and Fortitude saves...

Re: Sarloc's Heir [IC]
OOC: I thought she had done magic, which prompted me to start (since you said Taern wasn't healed all the way). Was quite funny though. ;D
Graevic, after realizing that Linda had already cast her magic, resumes his gesturing and chanting, watching the sarcophagus.

Re: Sarloc's Heir [IC]
"Ouch!"
Graevic's spellcasting is interrupted by Aholoh, his badger, who bites his ankle - hard.
OOC: Graevic loses that spell slot, but the attempt to detect magic fails.

Taern Torminson
*looks to Graevic with a thankful smile*
That stung. Thanks for the magics.
*grins, then turns back to the others, grin fading*
Friends, I am afraid I will not have anything to do with desecrating the tomb of one of the honored fallen. They were buried here in honor, and deserve to rest with honor. Not only might their spirits haunt us, or worse, their bodies, but surely we will anger the gods with our acts. There is no honor to be gained from stealing the possessions of one of the honored fallen, especially when they are worn to the grave as such. If there was no body, or if the valuables were heaped around the room like so much rubbish, then I might be alright with it, but when they are buried in clear possession, as such...
*trails off, shaking her head*
I know better than to try and dissuade you, but know that I will have no part in the act.
*Stands back from the coffin*

Fizahn, gnome:
"Personally, I agree with Taern on this one. That was some powerful magic that the sarcophagus was trapped with, and I think that there will only be more powerful consequences if we mess with either the statues or the body."
*Fizahn stands back with Taern.*

Re: Sarloc's Heir [IC]
Thokk piles up the items off to the side in the central chamber.
Looking around, you can see:
(1) an opening to the east, apparently opened from the other side
(2) an opening to the south with the block already pushed halfway down the passageway (the trapdoor having been deactivated)
(3) a still sealed doorway to the west.

Re: Sarloc's Heir [IC]
Elthan realizes that casting detect magic in the room with the laughing statues might set off the flame strike again, so he studies the items in the safety of the central chamber. Three of the objects (the lacquered chest, the chalice, and what turned out to be a black pearl) have no magic aura. The brooch faintly radiates abjuration magic.
Thokk exits the north room reluctantly, his eyes on the laughing statues that taunt him from above.
OOC: Who enters the east passage?

Re: Sarloc's Heir [IC]
The east room is a low-ceilinged square chamber 25 ft x 25 ft. You have just entered from the west into what appears to be an antechamber or vestibule.
Directly across from you is what appears to have been the original entrance to this crypt. That opening appears to have caved in long ago. Whether it was a trap that was set off by previous "explorers" or just the effects of seven centuries is hard to say.
Elthan, Fizahn, and of course Thokk have no problem seeing by the dim light filtering in from the west passage, though Graevic finds the room uncomfortably dark.
Along the north and south walls are two stone benches (or perhaps low tables), where it would appear people once placed mementos or perhaps flowers and other offerings. Only some scattered debris lies there now.

Re: Sarloc's Heir [IC]
After poking around for a few minutes, you find nothing of interest in this room.
Elthan continues to concentrate on trying to detect magic but senses no unusual auras (other than those emanating from Fizahn's cloak and other magic items carried by other party members).
Eventually, everyone reconvenes in the central chamber to consider what to do next.
