While I could debate whether fiction-Earth is the same place as real-Earth, it's more that good world-building even for fictional settings tends to be based on a fairly solid grounding of real life, whether historic or contemporary. So you might get some more informed, rather than anecdotal, answers there. But it's a quiet-ish forum (RPGs might be more profitable in that respect). Still, it's up to you.
