"The hell are you guys talking about? I don't see anything."

"Dude, its like right there! Seriously you can't see that? Clarke what about you?"

"I can't see anything, proves my point this place is friggen weird. This guy knew more about this paranormal stuff than he was letting on.

[Wargor]

"Whatever it is, it looks dangerous. It looks like some kind of warning sign, warding us off. But we need the info, we can't just leave. C'mon, let's see if there's a back entrance." Gabriel mutters, getting out the car and trying to find a way found behind the shop.

[Alth Falath]

"Yep, hopefully the back door won't have some mystical stay away sign," Andy grumbles as he walks towards the back.

[Wargor]

"You think we're that lucky?" Gabriel quips, leading the way.

[GodGoblin]

Pat chuckles at Gabriels comment as he follows close behind, keeping an eye out for any more mystical signs.

Clark
"I'm staying out here, in the back alley if you choose to go in that way. I don't want anyone in their to recognize me, that would be bad. If you need me just give a shout." Clark awaits for the others to spring the rest of the plan. He will head into the back alley to lay low and out of sight once the others are all also in position. This assumes they head in through the back as planning.

The trip around to the back of the building proves to be time well-spent, as not only does the expedition through the cardboard box and plastic bag strewn alley end with them finding a backdoor, it's already unlocked. By the looks of it, they aren't the only people with an interest in this place and questionable methods, as somebody has beat them here, the door's lock bashed to pieces by some sort of blunt instrument, the door itself hanging ajar.

Stepping inside, they'll find themselves in a store room, a fifteen by ten space bearing row upon row of shelves, each shelf packed full to bursting with books. Old ratty paperbacks, leather-bound tomes, fresh hardcovers that still smell of new ink, ancient encyclopedias with yellowed pages, austere-looking dictionaries, water-damaged magazines, slim little pamphlets and occasionally even a damaged old pop-up book. Books of every shape and size, color and subject, books and books and books with little else but dust and cobwebs, the only door other than the one they came in through almost entirely eclipsed by a weighty stack of books piled up against it.

Oddly enough, although someone has certainly come through here, the footsteps still clearly imprinted in the dust on the floor, not a single volume has been disturbed, the footsteps simply leading up to a shelf in the corner... And stopping dead.

"I get the feeling we may be a bit too late on this one.." Pat says quietly as he enters the room and wanders over to examine the bookshelf that the prints lead to.

Andy carefully draws his gun and flips the safety off, before following along.

Clark
Clark waits outside in the back alley, he ducks into the shadows. He doesn't want another confrontation, but he's ready to sprint inside on the drop of a dime if he hears them call. Or happens to hear some terrifying monster attack them.

Gabriel stalks into the room after the others, following Pat over to the shelf. "Some kind of secret door?" He murmurs quietly. "Try pulling some books? Man I wish I had a gun right now."

The shelf the steps lead to is just like the others, this specific one stocked with detective stories, the Hardy Boys and Sherlock and Nancy Drew and penny dreadful murder mysteries. Nothing out of the ordinary, every volume neatly in a row with it's brothers....

Except one. Andy spots it first, a small spot where the dust on the shelf has been disturbed, the lone book just slightly out of line...

Probably nothing. I mean, things can't be that cliche, right?

"Oh what the heck." Andy tries to remove the book that doesn't fit.

No bookshelf suddenly falling away to reveal a secret flight of stairs. No grind of stone as a hidden doorway opens. Just a faint rustle as the book is pulled away from it's kin. It's slim, not hardback or bound in cheap cardboard skin but leather, the words sewn in golden thread, "The Primer of Awakening". On the cover is the symbol seen on door, the silver hand with fingers that flow into branches, although as Andy never saw the glyph before he's unlikely to recognize it here.

This book is not as pristine as the others, but obviously tampered with, rendered even thinner than it was before by the tearing away of the first few pages, as well as the last. Barbarism. A brief flip through the book reveals it to be a mix of elegant words and seemingly meaningless diagrams, wheels and suns and stars, gradients, angles and mathematical lines running through the pictures, tiny, tiny captions labelling each symbol but explaining nothing to Andy's untrained eye. A book of magic and mysticism, no doubt, but one that will take time and research to decipher. Or, perhaps, in lieu of those, simply a granted inspiration in the arcane ways.

Andy tosses the book to Pat. "Hope you can make heads or tails of this mystical stuff, I'm going to keep looking." He looks further in the store, hoping the missing pages or more information.

[Wargor]

"So if this is it, then what happened to whoever made those footsteps?" Gabriel asks quietly, leaning over Pat's shoulder to take a look at the book. "Awakening? Hmmm." Gabriel racks his brain, trying to see if the word sparks any memories.
