Re: [Steam] Thread XIX: It's a Kritzmas miracle!
Wow. Say hello to every tourist's dream.
Also, for those who want to know what SS13 is like, look at what someone said in the radio communications, then look at my reaction:
Orlando Picard [135.9]: Spike Shafer is breaking into the Genetic's Monkey Pens via North Maintenance tunnels
And the only reason this is related to steam is because people talked about it earlier.Credit for my various avatars goes to Dashwood,Cealocanth,Kwarkpudding,Randomizer, kpengu in,Alarra,Bisected8,zimmerwald1915, and Thanqol.

Re: [Steam] Thread XIX: It's a Kritzmas miracle!
Yor machine?
Honestly though, they're a bit bipolar in attitude. My first game? Granted, I was of the same alignment, but they were really falling over themselves to help me out and couldn't have been much friendlier/generally great neighbours.
Second time, I open communications with them and N-1 goes "Talking meat. An amazing accident of the universe." Diplomacy is an art that has obviously escaped them.

Re: [Steam] Thread XIX: It's a Kritzmas miracle!
Hi I got Magicka today because what I saw looked really fun, and I've run into a problem, the game runs very badly. Slowdowns, graphical glitches, occasional random crap that is just bizarre. And I don't know how to fix it. There are only a hand full of options and most of them don't even do anything, so I'm wondering what I can do to fix any of this.
Thank you in advance.

Making a custom magical video card profile can help. It'll turn off some options. Though, I'm not sure if the shadow option works at all.

Re: [Steam] Thread XIX: It's a Kritzmas miracle!
Depends on the card, but on my nvidia card, going to the computer's control panel, then to the video card control panel. Then manage 3d settings, and you can create specific overrides for given programs. This allows you to, for instance, disable Anti-Alising. Can diminish the load a bit, given what tools you have to work with. Also a good idea is to lower resolution as much as possible.

Re: [Steam] Thread XIX: It's a Kritzmas miracle!
So. The Yor? Slowly inching their way towards an ascension victory. Halfway there, actually. I bribed the Drengins and Korath to go to war with them. They both did very little and eventually made peace. At least the Yor suspect nothing.
So I have to take matters into my own hands and exterminate them. To this end? I did nothing. Nothing at all. Can't be seen getting too military, after all. No, instead, I researched. I researched big time. 250 turns later, so they're now halfway to ascension?
Research is finished. I painstakingly designed my empire's first capital ship, the Dominion. Pictures are in the spoiler.

And here's the back. This probably doesn't mean much. You need a point of comparison for these things.
Well, here's one.
The blue rock there is Aquarii IV. That is a planet.
Tomorrow? War.

Also, check that your computer, and your graphics card in particular, meet the game's bafflingly high specifications.

Re: [Steam] Thread XIX: It's a Kritzmas miracle!
It's working pretty well now.
But, yeah. The game has...ridiculously high graphics. If you can run Crysis, you may not be able to run this(may not be true, going of what was posted on interweb forums, so, you know). WTF.Last edited by Tavar; 2011-01-28 at 01:58 AM.

Re: [Steam] Thread XIX: It's a Kritzmas miracle!
Setting up a custom graphics profile for Magicka let me go from "Slows entire computer to a crawl" to "Plays rather well at 1280x800." You really shouldn't have to jump through hoops like that to make it work on a reasonable system for such a seemingly simple game, but you can at least.

Re: [Steam] Thread XIX: It's a Kritzmas miracle!
Is the demo better or worse in terms of system reqs? Cuz I played through the demo at 1600x900 (native) and didn't notice that make of an issue. Could be that I don't mind funky graphics if the game play is good though.

Re: [Steam] Thread XIX: It's a Kritzmas miracle!
I have, actually.
I tend to stick with the "I have no idea why, but everyone, even the Korath, approve of me" route with diplomacy. What can I say? It works.
Of course, they then, uh... vent their aggression through other, non-player-based means.
Spoiler
Not pictured: Arceans, Terrans and Korath declare war on the Vegans.
Seriously people, calm down.
