Ya'll Shoegazey types might also like Bosse-de-Nage. They went from raw Black Metal to Shoegazy Black Metal while I wasn't looking. I have to say I think I pefer their first raw demo though. I think my problem with this proliferating subgenre is that it all sounds like Alcest and Amesoeurs.

Actually, I always thought that Alcest had a very unique sound. I do love them/him though, I have a giant Alcest poster in my room. I also came very close to touching Naige when I went to see them last month.

Have I ever mentioned how awesome Austere are? Because they have to be the best DSBM ever.

Alcest is Neige's solo project basically, so I'd imagine it's more "him". Anyway, I think Alcest's sound is very unique on Le Secret and Écailles de lune, though I think Souvenirs d'un Autre Monde didn't stand out as Shoegaze. What I meant more was that a lot of these Post-Rock/Shoegaze Black Metal bands more or less sound like Alcest and/or Amesoeurs and are thus devoid of inspiration, not that Alcest and Amesoeurs aren't unique. It's kind of like how Darkthrone are awesome, but all the bands that sound like them are just riding their coat tails.

    Also, Austere is pretty good.

Although "Lyrical themes: Squawking" is one of the coolest things on Metal Archives.

Anyway, I have a new post on my blog about Belphegor's second album, Blutsabbath. If any of ya'll like Black/Death Metal, check it out.

my only problem with this type of metal is that the lack of lyrics really bothers me after a while. i listened for a long time yesterday and after a while it just started to feel like noise

I think that lyrics are lame.

Okay, not necessarily, but I honestly couldn't care less about lyrical or even vocal content. As long as the vocals/lyrics are passable/suit the music (or, if they're absent, the music is sufficiently interesting) I'll probably be fine with them. I'm more interested in the actual music, generally.

That's great news. I was sorely disappointed that they skipped over Canada. A double set is also good to hear.

I suppose I should've chosen a more appropriate song. Their latest album prominently featured harsh vocals and had the occasional input from Enslaved's Grutle Kjellson, thus inciting some people to call it black metal. *shrug*

EDIT: Oh right, my thoughts on them. I do like the music, but a lot of the time I feel like they're just d***ing around in the studio. They're more of a fun listen than anything else.

I was there as well, and the fact that Amon Amarth tours so much is one of the things I like about the band. Their awesomness live helps alot too.

On the other hand, there's plenty of music that relies very heavily on lyrics. I don't think there's any excuse for lazy lyrics-writing, but I don't think there's much of an excuse for being lazy when it comes to music in general...

They toured with Ensiferum and Belphegor before so I'm comfortable with that. :P

Yeah. I appreciate Obituary's deliberately meaningless lyrics, but I've heard Metal (and most genres) produce quality lyrics, so I tend to not be one for excuses. If they're not too bad I may not complain if the vocals are good. If the lyrics are this on the other hand.
