That made me think "Moon, moon dust, white gel... WHITE MOOOOON"

Apparently I'm one of the few who didn't just twitch shoot it.

Sometimes, when I'm playing games on my laptop with my fingers on WASD, my left thumb rests below the space bar, closer to the touch pad. Occasionally, I'll click it by accident.

Apparently that's what happened to me with the moon, because I didn't even realize until you guys started talking about it that it wasn't just part of the cutscene.

i facepalmed. seriously did. didnt make it any less awesome, but when i realised how thick they were laying it on in the game before hand, the moment the moon appeared it all clicked, and i just went oooh..... oh. *facepalm* *click* *amazment* odd feelings to have so shortly after one another

i mean, the space sphere, the "hazardous space projectiles smashing the lab" thing and all the "moon dust" gel all realised in one moment, just made me go "they seriously expect us to shoot the moon?"

EDIT: Anyone else experiencing random crashes? I turn the game on, and 10 seconds after the level starts, it crashes. I'm at the checkpoint with the button that launches random garbage in the second Faith Plate level, and it crashes either right before I push the button or right after the garbage finishes landing.

Reading this thread has made me very confused... I beat the single player mode, but I thought the whole part where you shoot the moon happened in a cut scene. I seriously have no memory of actually doing anything in that part, I just remember watching the scene unfold. I thought you were all joking about actually shooting it yourselves until the fourth or fifth poster mentioned it!

I still don't get how GLaDOS gets back in control at the end, since the stalemate button wasn't pressed, also on that subject, where is the button for stopping the transplant, what if the stalemate associate wanted to keep the original core.

There were dozens of potatoes lying around. It's certainly possible he could, now being massive and in control of everything, retrieve one of the potato batteries from down near the neurotoxin chamber.

As for how GLaDOS gets back in control, it's also certainly possible that the stalemate is automatically resolved in favor of the replacement core in the event that the stalemate button is destroyed. Aperture did have posters hanging around telling them how to deal with rogue AIs, so there's a decent chance they also had some fail-safes programmed in for weird niche cases.

Aye, it was foreshadowed by a room just before you get to GLaD0S: all the science projects set up. Basically just a dozen potato batteries and one baking soda volcano.

As for how GLaDOS gets back in control, it's also certainly possible that the stalemate is automatically resolved in favor of the replacement core in the event that the stalemate button is destroyed. Aperture did have posters hanging around telling them how to deal with rogue AIs, so there's a decent chance they also had some fail-safes programmed in for weird niche cases.

That or she had a limited control from that thing she was plugged into, remember wheatly in the master breaker room? he was able to turn on lights, and make the platform go faster. It's possible she was able to hack into a single mechanical arm, get rid of wheatly, do something to remove the portals (Did the portal gun get blasted into space?) and then manually attached her old head to the main body before downloading herself into it again.

I've been wondering this, myself. Sweeping the room with Aperture Science Material Emancipation Grids, maybe? Those things do make portals dissappear, after all.
