Re: The Warhammer Models Thread III: A Brush With Death
I love the idea of combi-melta being just a bolter with added melta ending, I always found regular combi weapons to be too bulky.

I've only been able to finish 1 of the entries I had planned for the Hasslefree contest, but I really likes the way this turned out. Rally not much to say about it.

Looks like it dsmiles.
On a similar note I have noticed a number of the wyrd miniatures bases in your work (you used a number of sewer bases on some of your robots I think and the graveyard bases in this last lot).

Re: The Warhammer Models Thread III: A Brush With Death
To be fair, the robots are Wyrd minis.
I'll have some ruin bases in the next batch (one for my Ice Queen and one for a yet to be determined mini). I can't remember who made them, though. (I'm going through and re-basing/re-painting a bunch of my old minis that are in dire need of a new paint job.) I really hate just throwing some sand and flock on bases, but it does make them generic enough to use with any army (for a TTWG).Originally Posted by The Doctor

Re: The Warhammer Models Thread III: A Brush With Death
In general I do love your basing work. In some places they need touching up where flock or sand has got on the side in small amounts and look out of place but particularly with the swamp bases brilliant job.
In that last batch of minis I love the red/blue jacks. Not sure about the 'some ghost' paint job though. The black lines don't do it for me, I prefer the blend up to white technique for doing ghosts.

Re: The Warhammer Models Thread III: A Brush With Death
For ghost 'flesh' I'm a real fan of the Wyrd miniatures style on models such as the Seishen bodies, Jack daw's skin and most prominently Lost Love. Look them up if you are interested. Can you link any pics of other models done in negatives? I'm curious to see what it looks like.

Re: The Warhammer Models Thread III: A Brush With Death
The PP painted Feralgeist is done in negatives. They painted the normally shaded areas with bright yellows, and highlighted it in progressively darker greens.

Re: The Warhammer Models Thread III: A Brush With Death
hmmmmm can't decide if I like that colour scheme or not. On the one hand it makes it look almost translucent but on the other there seems something fundamentally...wrong about it. It's something that I seem to have trained myself to avoid and when I end up with a lighter colour/shade in the recesses it seems like a mistake to be corrected.
Think I might be tempted to try that technique myself on something at some point, see how it works out.

Re: The Warhammer Models Thread III: A Brush With Death
If I look really hard, I can still make it out on the ghost, but she needs to be re-painted. Unfortunately, I pinned her to the base.

Re: The Warhammer Models Thread III: A Brush With Death
Salamander
Im pretty happy with how he turned out green to me at least seems to look even Just need to higfhlight the black a little with some grey and id call him done except for the lack of gun and backpack but there on the way primed and drying as i type. never really done flames before so its a first on right shoulder the left ones were part of the shoulder pad so that ws pretty easy. hoping to make each look pretty unique so ill post again when i have a few more done
P.s only thing i dont like after seeing it is how the base looks even just primed it looks silly so i think ill just go with a standard basing thing i was hoping for crazy paving and the added height looks better next to my IG but think ill go against it.

Re: The Warhammer Models Thread III: A Brush With Death
You've got some really good contrast in that green, which really makes it work rather well. I also like the freehanded flames. Nice job.

Re: The Warhammer Models Thread III: A Brush With Death
When priming, should you point and give a short burst (like a fraction of a second) right at the model, or move the can from side to side (think it's called dusting)

w00t! New stuff:
Kirai:Spoiler
I went full-on Carrie on the blood spatter, here. I also used some water effects mixed with red wash to pool the blood in the hole at her feet, and some coming out of the pipe. You might not be able to see the blood pooling in the hole, but it's there, you'll just have to take my word for it.

Wow- that first one is pretty gory. She must have hit an artery.
They're looking good. If you started to thin your paints more then you'd be able to blend in your highlights more- just a thought.

Re: The Warhammer Models Thread III: A Brush With Death
Then I've achieved my goal. She's the only Japanese-esque master for Malifaux, so I went full-anime. Large eyes, small mouth, mega-blood-spray...the works. Thanks! Yeah, I'm still working on the consistency of my paints. Sometimes I grab a paint that I haven't used in a while, and forget to thin it.

Re: The Warhammer Models Thread III: A Brush With Death
I've had this box of Nobz sitting in my lad mountain for over a year and finally decided to paint one up. I'll be entering him in a competition at my LHS tomorrow morning- grand prize is a copy of the new Space Marine game. I wasn't really interedted in this game until I read a review of it over at Ars Technica- now I really want to win!
I tried to do a lot of new things with this guy. The skin was rushed, but I did the bet I could on it- tried to really emphasize the face by picking out the scars and going extreme with the highlighting.
All of the metal is painted over an under layer of rust. I used liquid latex masking to help me get the rusted look. I also used a few washes of VMC smoke (love that stuff) to dirty up the brighter metals and make the leater look worn.
Went with a camo pattern for the pants- just felt like the right touch for this guy.
For the bloody strings and blood effects I used Water Effects. I had to use fishing line as a structure for the strings. I mixed the water effects with a mixture of some old GW red ink, blood red, and scorched brown- it was a streaky mixture so that different tones would show. Once they dried I came back with very dillute black ink on the thickest spots of the blood and then a general, but still very dillute, wash of chestnut ink. The saliva is pure water effects over a very small fishing line structure.
I hate that the writing isn';t showing up in these pics- the look good in RL. The gum has "BooM" on the smaller plate, "CLAW" is on the power claw, and there's a little red arrow pointing up on the power box, and on the top section is the word "ON."
