Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
Maybe already been posted, but...
Elan, 7th panel
http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0141.html
Tarquin, 5th (Thanks Windrider!) panel
http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0753.html
I don't think it is pure chance, TBH! Elan and Tarquin have more in common than Elan would want to believe :DLast edited by Krim; 2011-11-02 at 10:58 AM.

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
One would think four years of Latin, including one in which the entire textbook is a fictional account of a family in Pompey, ending with their deaths in the the destruction of the city, would have led me to see things like that more easily. One would be horrifically wrong.
I think I might love you for pointing that out.
EDIT: One would also think I would know the proper spelling of Pompeii. One should really stop making these assumptions, as they are so consistently wrongLast edited by Peelee; 2011-11-03 at 10:50 AM. Reason: I'm an idiot

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
I always did wish more forums had a gratification system. There was one place (SomethingAwful?) that had a system that let you give a post either a 'funny' thumbs-up or an 'interesting' thumbs-up. I totally thrive on stuff like that. Kinda why I'm into Reddit right now...

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
I forgive you for missing it. I always connected him with Pompey the Great, as opposed to Pompeii the doomed city. But then, it's even more brilliant because it's an intentional misspelling of Pompeii the same way Vaarsuvius is not quite Vesuvius.
Rich must be frustrated when he finds out we're missing stuff like this.
EDIT:
Also, since I hate to double post, I just made the connection between this strip and the final panel of this strip.
Seriously, I'm not doing so well at picking stuff up the first time.Last edited by bronnt; 2011-11-02 at 06:59 PM.

It is also linked to the Cracks in the ceiling. It's like foreshadowing, except after: Is that a recon?

On the second page (5th panel overall), there's the obvious reference to Sesame Street, but a deeper meaning occurred to me a couple of days ago. I originally saw Felix the Mensch just as the opposite of Oscar the Grouch, but then I realized:
Oscar and Felix
It's the Odd Couple.

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
They're on the same foot on the last panel in that page, too. The big boot is supposed to be the foot closest to the viewer to give a subtle amount of perspective. After the fight between the Order and the Guild starts, Thog and Roy face each other whenever possible which puts the big boot on opposite feet.

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
There doesn't seem to be any particular logic to characters with big boots.
My best guess is that the big boot indicates which leg is moving (or doing the more dramatic movement), and when they're idle, the bigger boot is the one closer to the audience. Though that isn't the case with Yor, though that could mean he's holding Celia in a certain way. EDIT: And it wasn't the case when Thog was sitting. I don't think there's any real consistency to this bit.Last edited by Gift Jeraff; 2011-11-05 at 09:15 PM.

Right before Haerta casts the spell, she says "I do indeed."
Is it just me, or are her words bigger than the other two souls?SpoilerThis is the thief who likes to hoard,
That loves the bard with the puppet Lord
That admires the fighter with the green-hilted sword,
That employs the Wizard, whose bird is ignored,
That has the gender unexplored
That intrigues the Halfling, usually bored,
That slew a mountain of the goblin horde,
That follows the cleric,
That serves the lich,
That seeks the gate,
That guards the snarl,
That lives in the prison the gods built.

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
They are. She's 'coming up to the front' -- Vaarsuvius is directly talking about her and is about to use her spell. Rather than hang around behind V quietly snarking as usual, she came out to threaten the dragon right alongside V, since she was the subject of interest at the moment.

I always thought that thing that destroys Golem-Roy was just a random monster that had moved into the fortifications. Now I realized it's actually shapechanged Vaarsuvius!

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
It's probably a little silly of me, but I never noticed (until somebody pointed it out) that Tsukiko has two differently colored eyes, one for both the kinds of spells she can cast.
EDIT: I also never noticed that Comic 49 had a little detail in the last panel. I thought it was a nice touch when I saw it.
