Midnight Nightmare: Google Docs Rough Version

So the picture thing didn't work out quite as well as I had hoped, seeing as I went a meg over the Google Docs limit. So, I ended up using one picture (Kairaven's) as the placer, but I still have the 'better' version with all the pretty space pictures.

I've rewritten some of the excerpts to make them cleaner and more in line with not just the tone of the rest of the story, but with Midnight in general. Her stories are about...friendship, and love, and family. Happy endings, and being grounded. It's not some magical battle that saves the day here, it's kindness and understanding, and forgiveness. It's not until Midnight remembers herself, does she begin to gain the upper hand in the situation.

I hope that comes across in the writing well.

Now, I'm going to bed. Comments are most welcome, seeing as this is a 'rough draft'.

Haven't read through it since you posted it on the forums, but just looking at it seems...off. I don't know if its because you had the green background before and now it is pure white (I hate, hate, hate reading on a white background, hurts my eyes). If possible (I have absolutely no knowledge of google docs), I'd suggest making the background darker, maybe even black, to flow with the night time breakers and the Nightmare Moon's return.

I'll actually read through it when I get up tomorrow, since it is getting a bit close to my bed time here, but memory tells me it will be excellent.

It was a near-full moon the night that Raz_Fox lost his sanity.

He lay in bed, covers pulled up to his chin, window shut and locked. Door shut and locked. Eyes... Wide open.

She's coming for me, he thought as his eyes once again made a round about the room, checking for anything out of place. I know it...

The wind suddenly howled, knocking branches against this locked window, drawing his attention for a brief second and shocking his heart.

Breathing became hard. He was afraid to look away from the moonlight, afraid of what the room held now that he'd left it unguarded.

"Oh Razzy~"

Raz's eyes grew big. Had he really just heard a voice? He had to tear his eyes away from the window, the moonlight.

"SiuiS had said getting into your room would be easy, but even I didn't except it to be this easy."

He turned to see her standing by the bed. A dark shadow of a pony, only her grin could be seen. Her mouth moved as she wet her lips. "I've been waiting for you to go to bed, old friend," she purred.

A hoof on the bed next to him, a murderous gleam in her eyes. "Don't mind me, though, Razzy. I'll only be here all night."

I'm a really horrible person for wondering if I could claim the creation of Shimmer. "Yeah, it was totally my pitch for Heroics that jump-started the character."

I don't know, I don't really understand it. I'm super confused about my own word choice, and my feelings now that I'm thinking about it. What happened was that we got on a question about potentially voicing a minor character for Season 2. Starting with the subject of me having no idea what kind of pony I could voice, it got floated out that I would be Fluttershy's friend. Which for some really strange reason made me say, "Oh yeah. You know, in some ponies' fantasies [cue laughter about exceedingly awkward word choice] -- er, in story ideas and whatnot that have been pitched to me, I've been a shy little author sneaking stories in the mail slot of Twilight's library."

Technically true, but... the way I said it feels cowardly. I don't know. It's bothering me. I don't want it to come up and to have everypony thinking I'm using them as a shield.

Seriously, though, it's okay. A slip of the tongue, a wish not to talk about yourself and your own ideas too much - that's understandable. I know that I'm never at my most eloquent while being interviewed, and catching all your little slips and errors on tape is a bit frightening.

I hope you feel better soon. I went through a pretty severe bout of depression last year, and I would suggest staying away from sad songs and tragic movies. It always seems like it would provide some catharsis, but it'll just make it worse.

Maybe I'm not the best pony cat to say this, given happiness and all, but I tried to make my posts as clean & safe as possible, honor feelings of others, and besides, if you look between the lines, instead at the surface, you'll see the real problem lies elsewhere, and guilt-tripping ponies signaling it will only result in more hurt feelings.

Does GoogleDocs let you put in page breaks? A bit more space between excerpts would probably help it look a little better. Also, idea! What if you had an image similar to the one you have now, but have Midnight turning into Nightmare Midnight instead of the moon going through it's phases?

That sounds pretty accurate, actually. I mean, you make it a point to allow others to write stories about Shimmer; it isn't unusual for others to come up with common themes for the character. It is perfectly understandable that you would question taking credit for that.

In short: Don't worry about it, and we don't think poorly of you.

Y'know, for the record, I'd like to refute the idea that Midnight's family tree is some sort of giant complex thing. Here, let me show this chart I quickly made up. Yes, it was an excuse to use the chart maker again.

Looking at this, Midnight's family isn't that much more complex than the idea of someone who has a step-parent somewhere along the line. She certainly doesn't have much in the way of grandparents (Just Twilight's), and as far as we know only one 'True' Aunt, which would be Princess Celestia. Calling Celestia 'Gammy' and the other Elements her Aunts are really just more terms of endearment and affection than actual blood relation.

Even if you count Nightmare as a sister, as opposed to a part of Midnight, that really doesn't make the situation that much more complex.

Oh, sure, if you include all the fandom injokes that have sprung from it, it gets more complex, but 'canon' Midnight's family isn't some byzantine thing.

Essentially bobcat asked me if I could import any pre-G4 into FiM, who would it be? Really, Paradise is the only one that's furthest away from a concept already in FiM. Yes, Twilight could narrate, but being a native of at least the Cloudsdale/Ponyville area, Paradise would know more about local fables and history. Insofar as interacting with the mane cast, she would probably not get along with Rainbow Dash 'That's just a stupid filly story!' or even Rarity 'I don't have time for silly stories!'. Twilight and she might compete for 'historical accuracy'. Overall, I think the show would benefit from an 'outside' storyteller/historian/narrator, so Twilight could enjoy stories, too, without having to be the one to tell them all the time.

Did Masquerade have those eyes in the show?

She did in My Little Pony & Friends, yes. (Same with Fizzy, Sweet Stuff, Whizzer, Gingerbread, and Galaxy, I believe.) She has not been introduced in FiM, the pic I posted was a fanart.

Hmm, good point. Twilight does like her books and tends to devote herself to whatever is written in them, but then again, she tends to dismiss anything she classifies as "silly". (see: Supernaturals) I suppose Paradise would have a bigger place in the show than I thought, as she'd likely have stories to tell that Twilight is unlikely to believe.

Did Masquerade have those eyes in the show?

I seem to recall them taking time to show off those gem-eyes in the movie. No clue about the TV series.
