It had been a fairly uneventful morning, there was the usual drone on the news, the odd missing persons, a report on the record heat hitting the south of Japan, a new fad in Shibuya, an odd flu-like epidemic that seemed to be spreading quickly was expected to die out quickly and be gone before the cool months arrived.

Gento was a school known for its selective attendance, students must excel, that was the only criteria, what they excelled at could be anything Gento only wanted the best, there clubs were exclusive there teams were the winners for many years in a row and going here opened doors to nearly every College in the world if a student had the drive.

It's nearly an hour after school by now most of the students have filtered out, those who stayed have practice or club or perhaps a bit of work to catch up on, it is a strange day it seemed in nearly every class at least 6-7 students were home sick, 1 or maybe 2 would be normal but 6 or 7? perhaps the flu had spread farther then the news said, The halls are quiet and the sun is slowly creeping towards the tops of the huge skyscrapers in the distance, despite the oddity the day is still beautiful.

The inner courtyard is now playing stage to an odd scene, a man stumbles up to the gate, shaking desperately at the bars but it is sealed, he claws his way up the side letting out panicked gasps and pulls himself over, a pair of school girls replace him at the gate, they watch him and reach through the gate almost blindly for the man, who backs away still in his sitting position "you dumb bitch!" he yells, holding his wrist which seemed to be bleeding under his track jacket, the two girls still reached for him, oblivious to his harsh comments, the man finds a brick, pulling it free from the side of one of the small gardens and tosses it, it clatters against the gate aimlessly.

Strangely enough, Michiko is staying after school today not at the baseball diamond (although she's got her big gym bag with her, for later) but to get help with her math homework.

This probably has less to do with her not being good at math - it's actually one of her best academic subjects - and more to do with the new math tutor being a cute guy. So she and two other students (both girls, possibly for the same reason) are in the classroom where the tutor is supposed to meet them. He's not here yet though and Michiko is getting bored.

Yuuta was keeping his usual schedule that day. Which for him, meant staying behind at Gento to finish the work assigned that day so his weekends would be free for his placement and tutoring from his family. He's using an empty classroom to spread out his work across more than one workspace. It helps to be able to see his progress like that. The mathematics table is clear now, the work neatly piled into it's folder to be handed in next week. Next to it chemistry, physics and geography had fallen to him. Yuuta finds them all intuitive on a base level, they make sense to him. When exceptions to the laws of the subjects emerged they are not true exceptions, they are merely rules that he, or the field as a whole, has yet to grasp.

Not so with creative writing. Of the three hours that he has spent in this room, half of it has been spent staring at the top of this one frustrating page. He knows his grades throughout the rest of the year will carry him to an A regardless, but it is necessary to hand something in for the creative writing part of the course... yet still he cannot think of anything.

In the past, he would ask his family about their days until something suitable emerged. Then he would borrow one of his sisters' books and change the names so that his subterfuge wouldn't be uncovered. In this way he had always managed to complete the assignment, even if his writing was considered overly formal for this particular exercise. Last week, however, his ruse had been discovered when he had been asked to read his work to the class. At first it had seemed that all was going well, until the girls at the back of class had begun to snicker at Doctor Edward Cullen's introduction. From there things had deteriorated rapidly until his strategy had been unraveled.

Breaking the habit of a lifetime, he allows his attention to wander. Shinji-sensei had suggested he 'take a break' from his studies to find some inspiration beyond real events. The advice made no sense to Yuuta. To progress with his studies, he must give his full attention to his studies. It only made sense. However, despite spending over ninety minutes on this, he has made no progress whatsoever. So he looks out the window and hopes to overlook some source of inspiration.

It is all that he could hope for. Gently placing his pen back to the desk, Yuuta pulls his chair back and stands, drawing his phone from his jacket. He presses in the number for the emergency services, and as soon as he clears the maze of desks, he breaks into a run.

The dedicated medical room would have the largest cache of medical supplies, but it might not be immediately accessible. For now, Yuuta means to take the smaller first aid kit from behind the reception desk. He could vault the desk and grab the kit, even if the door was locked.

For some reason his call wasn't getting through, though. Troubling.

Kaito narrows his eyes as he walks down one of the now sparsely-populated halls of Gento, furrowing his brow in irritation as the chattering gossip of a couple of girls leaving club activities begins to interfere with the silent satisfaction he was feeling in the wake of another strenuous yet fulfilling day of karate practice.

Chirping little insects...

The girls gasp and hush up as Kaito walks by and shoots them an irritated glare out of the corner of his eye, but he keeps on walking without giving them so much as a second thought. He feels like taking in a bit of fresh air, so he makes his way toward the courtyard door. As soon as he opens the door, he hears the sounds of a commotion and tenses up, carefully making his way outside and closing the door quietly behind him.

"...the hell is going on out here?" he mutters to himself.

Yuri completed a cool-down lap around the track at a jog, then another at a walk. She hadn't pushed herself too far that day, just maintaining her general level of fitness until the next meet, but it was important to get out running every day.

The scene at the gate gave her pause. She started her cool-down stretches while watching the man, not sure why he was throwing a brick at his groupies, but pretty sure someone in the school was already calling the police.

If he bothered to remember the teachers faces Kaito would reconize the man now holding a bleeding wrist with clenched teeth as Kagara-sensei, one of the schools math teachers and in fact the one Michiko and the other girls were waiting for.

His eyes turn and with a pale look on his face he points his good hand to the two strange girls still reaching through the bars as his eyes stared at Kaito "that one bit me! what the hell this isn't right I mean I know girls like me but there crazy!" he chuckled as if trying to play off the pain that was clearly affecting him, better to look good for the students he supposed.

Peeling back the flap of ripped fabric to see the wound was a mistake, his face went even more pale as he saw the marks of teeth, a mouth shaped wound that was red with blood and viscera, he wasn't sure but he though there might have been a chunk missing...had the girl...eaten it?

He pulled the fabric back down and swallowed "u-um...go back inside and we'll call the police alright?" he instructed Kaito, then with a glance noticed they weren't the only ones, a girl on the track as well, he waved for her to come over.

Yuuta's call did not go through, the operators voice could be heard "the number cannot be completed as dialed, please try again soon!" This wasn't impossible in the city, however considering this was an emergency number he was attempting to call it certainly raised questions.

Yuri walked closer, pausing to grab her school bag. She recognized the other guy as a student, but even students at the most prestigious academy in Japan could be scumbags. She wouldn't be a statistic just because she'd gotten too close to two guys with a really good con.

Suzu was slumped against one of the courtyard walls, playing on her phone. She was waiting for Rin, who apparently was seeing the tutor for some reason. Suzu had been her usual nosy self, but no answer had been forthcoming. Very boring.

Glancing up from her phone, something much more interesting presented itse lf. Gah, it was a stupid game anyway. Carelessly pulling out her headphones, she sauntered over to get a better look. Sure was better than waiting around.

Yuuta vaults the reception desk, grabs the kit, and clambers back over. The clatter of stationary he leaves in his wake is irrelevant. For the first time in days, he feels alive. Unlike at the hospital, where he wasn't allowed to deal with the patients unsupervised, or at all with the interesting cases, here he was on his own! With emergency services unavailable, and an injured man at hand, he was the man on the scene.

Running up to the assembling group, he forces himself to slow down. Placing a hand on the girl's upper arm, he hands her his phone. Studies had shown a gentle hand on the upper arm tended not to be consciously noticed, and to indicate high status or dominance of the toucher. It seemed to work at the hospital with wayward patients.

"Could you keep trying to call the police, and an ambulance for Kagara-sensei, Miss? For some reason the call didn't get through the first time."

Kneeling by the teacher, Yuuta makes a play for situational dominance. Gently touching the man's shoulder, he offers no explanation beyond the first aid kit sitting at his side for his careful study of the wound. It was a bite mark of some sort, so antibiotics and maybe a rabies shot. Rather deep too, so he'd need to see to the bleeding.

His mind grinds to a halt when he recognises just why the unusual bite mark seems so familiar. As a student of human anatomy the human jaw was well known to Yuuta, but it was very, very, rare for a serious bite mark to come of it. He's been expecting a dog or similar...

Blinking he turns to the girls at the gate... with bloodstained lips and less than lucid expressions. Alcohol wouldn't do that. Most hard drugs he knew of wouldn't do that. Escaped mental patients didn't do that. It didn't make sense.

"Conventional wisdom is to not move an injured patient, but in this case I think it would be best to take you inside before we bandage you up, sensei." Placing his teacher's good arm over one shoulder, Yuuta looks to the sullen looking boy. "You take the other side, but be careful not to put any pressure on the wound, alright?"

Damn, the kit... well. "And you take the kit, Miss."

Kaito nods curtly and jogs over with his hands in his pockets to give Yuuta a hand. The situation seems pretty fishy, but he figures that it'd make sense to at least pull old Kagara away from whatever psychopaths were pounding at the gate. Along the way, he glances over at the girls at the gate with just a hint of concern on his face, but he quickly returns to the matter at hand.

"Hey," he says, glaring suspiciously at Kagara. "The hell happened out there? Those girls lost their minds or something?"

Iku had been gently rehearsing her lines nearby behind a wall. She was annoyed that her best friend hadn't shown up today , as he was supposed to rehearse with her. Apparently he had caught something or other. When she heard the commotion she turned and saw the increasing number of people. She briskly strolls towards them and ***** her head at the girls outside. C a n y o u h e a r m e? She says slowly as if talking to a foreigner.

The girls continued to paw blindly, though now there we focusing more so in the direction of Iku, a look of hunger in there eyes but otherwise they looked emotionless, there was something uncanny about them, something completely unnatural.

Kagara groaned and let the two male students help him into the building, though it was entirely likely he could walk he seemed perfectly fine to play up the injury, he sighed "didn't think a person could bite so hard...damn..." He recognized both students, Yuuta was a well know medical prodigy of sorts and he trusted the young man, better him then sitting there bleeding till help arrived right? "Doc I think the girl might have had something in her mouth it...it itches a hell of alot..." he said with an annoyed sigh, calling him doc as an attempt perhaps to lighten the mood.

The girls still continued, they had now bee. Doing the same thing for nearly 2 minutes, if a sane person had wanted to get in they would have long since attempted another route.

"I don't know, they both sort of stumbled towards me when I was coming back from my lunch, I though they were sick they were moaning in pain or something, reached out to see if they were OK and the girl sunk her teeth into me" sweated beaded on his for head and Yuuta wouldn't need to even check to know he was slowly gaining a fever.

Outside a third person joined the girls, a man in a suit wandered past, noticed the girls, then in turned noticed Iku and he too shuffled forward, a third arm reaching for them through the gate, this man however was not like the girls, how was he still upright when he was missing most of his face like that? Blood oozed from a stump of a nose, his upper lip was torn free revealing his teeth, and a large section of one cheek was hanging down like sickening jowls.

Iku shrieks and jumps back. Erm... Guys you have to see this

Yuri shrinks a little when Yuuta touches him, but relaxes when he just asks her to call the police. He's got kind of a doctor-ish air to him, and she nods and punches in the number without further startlement.

The call doesn't go through, and Yuri frowns, absently taking the kit when she's asked. She tries again, and keeps trying while the boys move the teacher, hoping she'll find a break in the almost-unbelievable lack of emergency communications.

Kagara-sensei! Michiko joins the others in the school's lobby where Yuuta and Kaito.

I got worried when you were so late and came looking for you! Oh my gosh, what happened? Though sheer force of personality (and perhaps a well-timed shove) Michiko positions herself in front of Kagara, gym bag forgotten to the side for the moment. That must hurt horribly!

Iku rushes into the lobby. She looks terrified.There was *pant* but then a thir *pant* and blood and *pant* face gone *pant* ZOMBIE

Yuri is left alone outside as Iku retreats from the new man, with three bodies on it the gate is now swaying a little, but it is built strong and is unlikely to collapse or bend.

"Z-zombie?" Kagara had been just about to address Michiko and stifle her concerns but the mere mention of a zombie make the teacher pale once more, it seemed he was not the tough type, the kind that would get the students to band together in this trying time, he was likely just as afraid as any of them, perhaps moreso now that he was bleeding from a nasty wound.

"no no they can't be zombies this isn't some stupid anime or a video game, they just have rabies o-o-or some sort of drugs right?" he looked to Yuuta panicked as he dug through the equipment they had, the increased bloodflow from his slowly growing panic only made things worse, he looked paler now then before, his hand kept shaking a mixture of pain and the insatiable desire to itch the damned thing.

There was the shriek of tires followed by the sound of glass being shattered somewhere up the road, by this time anyone who was listening would suddenly realize how quiet it had been, there wasn't the same hustle and bustle of the city life around them, the sound of honking horns chatting people and dozens upon dozens of feet, their was nothing.

Kagara let for a stream of expletives, all pretense of being there superior was rapidly deteriorating, Kagura seemed to be losing his grip on reality his teeth were clenched and he gripped his arm just below the elbow tightly, why was it so itchy? sweat beaded on his skin rapidly now, their was simply not much Yuuta would be able to do if this kept up.

Zombies? What? But that's impossible.

Michiko looks up at Yuuta Isn't it, Yuuta-Sempai? it's not clear who she is trying to convince.

[Mekboy]

Suzu's eyes widened as she noticed the state of the newcomer. How was that even possible? Looked like something out of a movie. This was crazy. Grabbing her phone, she lined up the lens. A couple of pics, else there was no way anyone would believe this. Happy about the photos she wandered in for a closer look. Keeping out of arm's reach of course. No point in getting herself bit like that other guy.

"Hey... guys... Can you hear me? This ain't some crazy misunderstanding, is it?"

Yuri shrinks at the sight of people pressing against the gate, and scurries indoors with her classmates, still fruitlessly trying to reach emergency services.

Suzu is only greeted by hungry groans as the three try desperately to reach that last few inches and grab her.

then rather abruptly something lept upon one of the girls, with a savage howl it smashed her head into the gate again and again.

Suzu would see what could only be described as a delinquent boy about there age dressed yet again in the schools attire, his eyes had a wild look to them and a large blood stain had ruined the dress shirt he wore, it didn't take long for the other two to grab him and pull him to the ground, he coninuted to howl, the man with half a face was kicked against the bars of the gate, blood splashed towards Suzu and the girl soon was thrown free as well.

The boys eyes looked from them to Suze, he yelled something that seemed to be an attempt to talk, he was bleed profusely from his neck now, blood pouring and his life rapidly leaving him, he pulled himself up despite this and grabbed at the gate, with a hungry almost snarl like grunt he attempted to hoist himself up towards the top just as Kagura had done.



Kagura looked at her "it has to be, they're just on some sort of drugs, I think LSD could do something like this." he was shaking now "but just shut up..." clearly his frustration was growing rapidly and he was snapping at her in a way quite unlike how he had been. His hands shook and he coughed "stupid kids, why did I have to be the one huh? just trying to help and this is what I get, well screw that!" He attempted to get up, even putting pressure on his injured hand to lift himself "I'm gonna go bash there damn heads in!"

Kaito steps back from Kagara and leans against the wall with his arms crossed, his chilly gaze fixed on the increasingly irrational teacher.

"Zombie or not, you all had better step away from him," Kaito says to no one in particular. "He's losing his frickin' mind."

[Mekboy]

Letting out a little shriek, Suzu lept back quickly. Not quickly enough to avoid the spray of blood and other fluids. "Ew! Ew ew ew ew!" This... this was too much. Suzu fled inside.

Yuuta looks up from the kit, and begins cleaning Kagara's injuries, pushing him back down onto the floor. He carefully keeps his tone measured, the way he's been taught to by countless instruction videos. "Keep calm, Sensei. I'm going to clean the bite now. Just focus on me, alright?"

He doesn't take the time to make eye contact with anyone, but Kaito's assessment of the situation isn't far from the truth. This was moving too fast for rabies. There should have been at least four days between the bite and the appearance of symptoms, let alone anything like those girls outside. Was this why the calls weren't getting through?

"There are similarities to rabies, but they're imperfect. Most likely Kagara-sensei will become hostile like the victims we saw at the gates after a run of fever and delerium. We need to restrain him quickly so that he can't harm us, or himself, while we wait for help." Would the bandages be enough? Perhaps for a gag, but that would still be a death sentence for Kagara. He needed to be kept from hurting himself like that girl with the shattered ankle.

"I don't know what a zombie is, but those infected will be aggressive, lack any awareness of pain, show slowed reaction times and poor motor control, and appear to lack higher thought. Infection seems to spread by bite, or possibly bodily fluid contact, so don't allow blood or similar to touch you. Clean affected areas immediately, and try to cover your mouths and any cuts." A breath, then he continues, rushing through the process of bandaging the bite. "I need to get Kagara-sensei to the nurse's office to find what I need. The rest of you, go shut and lock as many doors and windows as you can. Those girls couldn't figure out a way around the gate, a locked door should keep anyone infected in the school from hurting us or doing themselves too much damage. Keep out of contact with anyone infected or already bitten."

The hypocrisy of his last statement misses him completely, but he pauses for a moment after hefting his teacher back up from the floor, glancing to the girl he met earlier at the gate. He still couldn't remember her name, even if he knew the face. "And if you can't get through to the emergency services, call the contact 'grandmother home' or 'grandmother mobile'. Explain I'm detained and what I just say. Tell her to lock up and to not draw their attention."

It wasn't enough, but that thought was all he could spare his family. His parents, his aunts, his uncles. They were all somewhere in the cities hospitals, at the center of this mess, but his sister and younger cousins should be with his grandmother for the afternoon. She was a strong woman, born during the war and raised in the mess no-one in police society liked to talk about, but she was old. Trying to get out of the city with three children in toe wouldn't be likely, with everyone else probably panicking and trying to do the same. He'd have to hope they would be alright until one of the family managed to get to them.

Roll to get Kagara to the nurse's office. (1d20)[11]

"I, um," Yuri stumbles over her words a bit. "I've got some of those allergy masks in my locker. My dad insisted on my having them, since the flu broke out. I'll grab them."

Without waiting for a response, Yuri dashes off, hell-bent on closing as many doors as she can on the way to her locker, and closing as many as she can on her way to the nurse's office. She dials the number she was told to as she runs, easily able to hold a conversation at the same time she runs-- assuming someone picks up.

There was nothing, phone calls seemed entirely out of the question. Kagara groans and mumbles and just after leaving the room pulls free of Yuuta and he turns and runs back towards the other room "I said I'm gonna kill them!" he practically snarls as he comes charging back into the room.

At that same moment the boy outside lands with a crunch on the inside of the gate, he too charges though in the opposite direction. The two crash into each other and the next few moments are savage and animalistic.

The two don't fighter per say, Kagara still seems to have some sense and attempts to pin the boy as he then begins pounding his face with his good fist, his motor skills in his bitten hand seem surprisingly well retained. The boy however seems weaker, slower to react, he is very pale and with one last wet punch he seems to expire, Kagara stands without missing a beat and goes to climb the fence once more.

The boy lays about halfways between the gate and the front door, blood ruins the ground below him, his chest does not rise and fall and he makes no sound.

Oh gosh! That was really fast!

Michiko zips her bag open and takes out one of her baseball bats. I've got a second bat in here. Who wants it?

I'll take it Iku yells. She's shaky and looks quite terrified. Something to protect me would totally be appreciated right now

[Ezeze]

Michiko tosses the bat to Iku in a gentle, under-handed arc and then goes to lock as many doors and windows as she can.

Thanks. Err... Erm... There's nothing to work with, we should get to higher ground.
