Dragons of Autumn-DL III-Pax Tharkas

Everything is quiet so far, no one seems to be coming down the stairs at this time. Tygerlilly is starting to get bored, so she wanders over to the door and begins fiddling with the knob. Talking is boring and she's a Kender of action, not talking endlessly about which way to go. The lock ends up being harder than she thought (she rolled low) and she gets to work messing with it. Much more fun to mess with the lock than to listen.

Tygerlilly finally yelps in surprise as the lock comes clean and she pries the door open. She loves a good surprise and with what they've seen down here, well, she expects that anything could jump out.

To her disappointment, nothing jumps out and she peers into the dark room.

Shaking her head, Pearl lifts her lantern and peers into the dark room.

The light shows boxes of supplies, barrels, crates, boxes and lumber. There is a path winding through the supplies, it looks like it goes around the supplies and into the darkness. Tygerlilly puts one hand on Pearl's leg as she peers in and around the corner. The boxes and crates certainly interest her. Who knows what might be inside.

Poking his head past Pearl, Kalrin whispers something to his ring, bringing forth a green tinted light from the top gem. He slowly begins to work his way through the supplies, looking for something interesting.

Lagri lurches after Tygerlilly. He pries the lid off the nearest crate with the but of his halberd and a vicious kick.

Pearl waits in the doorway, shining her lamp in to help the others see. She turns her own attention to the corridor they've come down, and to the stairs.

"Let's keep this moving, folks."

Hector

Hector doesn't participate in the search but stands and keeps watch as the others go through the boxes. He'll be ready to keep going as soon as it is over.

Under Lagri's tender loving care, the crate he busts open and kicks spills something that looks like sand on the floor. Tygerlilly figures she already has some of that and creeps forward past the immediate circle of light. She's really interested in where the trail leads. Kalrin inspects a barrel and another crate and it just seems to be more of the same sorts of supplies they found in the other room. Pearl keeps an eye on the stairs, but things are quiet for now.

Ignoring the rest of the crates, Kalrin moves to the back of the room, looking for another exit.

[Philistine]

Gneiss clears his throat. "You all know I love a good treasure hunt as much as anybody, but right now shouldn't we be pushing through here a little faster? This is still a Dragonarmy base." He steps off down the path, trusting in his dwarven senses to keep him oriented once past the lantern's glow.

Kalrin catches up with Tygerlilly who was having fun creeping along. She looks up at him with a grin as if to say, don't you love an adventure? Gneiss comes along behind and catches up to another light source. The path takes a turn to the right and there's a door at the end of the supply tunnel.

Kalrin return's the Kender's grin and works his way towards the door. "What do you think's on the other side?" he whispers.

[Toliudar]

Pearl is loath to leave the others out of the circle of light, but also wants to keep a tactical bead on the stairwell.

"Hector, Eldan, Gilthanas, stay here and try to contain any dragon-men who come along. I'll try to keep this lot out of trouble, and be back in a few seconds."

She turns immediately and heads into the store room. Assuming that Lagri will join her, she hurries after the others down the passage, holding her lantern high.

Tygerlilly grins conspiratorially up at Kalrin, Well...there could be ghosts? or dragons? or, she frowns, insects...??? I think I'd rather not find them.

Gneiss catches up and Pearl isn't very far behind. Hector, Eben and Gilthanas stay back to guard the doorway. Hamel stays behind as well, to support the other three.

Lagri starts upstairs. Then downstairs. Upstairs again. Then down. He walks in two quick, tight circles before following Pearl, wherever that is.

Hector

Hector grins at Pearl when appointed his job. "The entire army could come after us, and they wouldn't get through. I have your back."

[Toliudar]

Pearl's face, a mask of worry, softens briefly at Hector's words. How many times had she gratefully placed her life in the big man's hands, and he'd never failed her.

"I believe you. Let's make sure we don't need to put that to the test."

She hurries on to Gneiss, Kalrin, Tygerlily and Lagri.

"All right. What's the holdup?"

Tygerlilly flashes Pearl a grin, We were just discussing what might be behind the door? I'm voting for a nice dragon. Kalrin hasn't said what he wants to see yet. What do you think?

[Toliudar]

Toliudar stifles the first thing that comes to her lips, considering it unbefitting someone who aspired to knighthood.

I remember a story of three philosophers who spent an afternoon on a hillside, arguing about how many teeth it would be reasonable for a horse to have. And their slave, who went away to actually count the teeth to find out.

Handing her lantern to Kalrin for a moment, Toliudar opened the door and looked in.

Tygerlilly furrows her brow as she thinks about that one. Did the slave come back with the right answer?. Pearl swings open the door to a long dark corridor.

[SilentNight]

"And did he perhaps get a bite or two for his trouble?" Kalrin asks, flashing a cheeky grin at Pearl. "My steel's on a couple insects, hopefully no dragons," he adds as Pearl opens the door, holding her lantern forward to illuminate the darkness.

[Philistine]

"Well, we'll see." Gneiss ducks under Pearl's arm and scoots out into the hallway, moving out just beyond the edge of the circle of light.

Several of the group remain behind to keep watch, things are rather boring so far. It seems that this part of the fortress isn't used that often.

Inside the store room, Gneiss pushes ahead into the corridor and it looks like it runs the length of the room they just left and perhaps a bit more. There is a door on the left hand side, about 20ft down.

"Another door," Gneiss whispers. "I'll check it out."

He proceeds down the hallway, stopping before the doorway to listen.

Gneiss hears the chatter of women from behind the door.

Those in the outer room near the stairs make a listen check.

Gneiss creeps closer to the door, examining it for traps or alarms while trying to make out the conversation on the other side.

Gneiss can clearly hear Tigerlilly back with the others as she ponders how long Gneiss will be gone and if she should adventure after him.

From the room he can hear the women's voices talking about when they expect their captors will be down next for them. He doesn't recognize any of the voices.

The next thing Gneiss knows is that Tygerlilly is next to him, poking relentlessly at him, Are you in there? What are they saying? Is it really that exciting? What will you do now?

[Philistine]

"Shhh. Quietly," the dwarf replies. "Can you run back and let Pearl know that we might have found where some of the female prisoners are being held? I'm going to scout a little farther up - there's likely to be a lot of noise when we open this door, I want to make sure there's not a draconian guard post or something close enough to hear it."
