Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
I would argue that there is a significant difference between Rich posting to a thread that will be lost into oblivion as soon as the debate within which it is relevant has run its course and the same quote being preserved within a thread that will -always- be within page 1.
Considering that Rich has explicitly asked that this quote not be preserved, I'm not sure why people are arguing that we should preserve it to any extent :)Official Incense Aroma Specialist for the Vaarsuvius Fan Club!

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
I would argue that the link to that post should be kept, if only because the Giant has made an addendum to it in this very thread.
What happens if someone independent of this thread decides to refer someone else to that post? Worse, what if someone decided to sig the post? How might someone react to that post without the Giant's post here and its additional context? Wouldn't it be useful to have the Giant's caveat somewhere on-record, even if it isn't in the main index?
It's also worth noting that the Giant hasn't scrubbed this thread or the original post yet. The post in question is part of an ongoing discussion it seems, though only because he wants to make his position clear to the other readers.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
Edit: Misread the post right before this one.
I don't think there's any need to scrub the post from deep within this thread. If that was what Rich wanted, he would have simply done it, at the same time he posted "Please don't immortalize that particular statement of mine."Last edited by Kish; 2013-07-27 at 05:54 PM.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
The link is quoted in the Giant's own post. He is obviously okay with that. Don't sweat it.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
Is this quote worth including? It IS pretty interesting and talks some about his development process. On the other hand, it is sort of a venting post.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
Probably not necessary to add to the front, but Malack is dead. In case it does need to be added.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
I don't think I've ever been quite so curious about Rich's creative process before as I am now about what decisions were made with Durkon's eventual vampirization in mind.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
Redcloak was created for the purpose of giving Xykon someone to talk to in cutaway panels, just as Malack was created to vampirize Durkon .
Both characters, however, received additional development and so became full-fledged characters in their own right, with distinct personalities and motivation and backstory, greater than their narrative role.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
Seconded. Given the number of times apparently dead characters come back in the fantasy stories and in comics both, confirmation from the author that someone is dead is worthy of inclusion.
On a side note, I would suggest that the author's recent lucidity in relation to his creative process is probably related to the fact he could be currently working on the book commentaries, and this stuff is at the top of his mind. Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
Why Malack didn't have Word of Recall prepared. He just didn't have the slots available and he thought he was sufficently protected.
Given how many people are talking about this, I think this is a keeper.
ETA:::
Rich also talks about how Malack viewed himself as a Cleric of Death might have influenced his decision not to prepare Word of Recall.
It also includes the strong implication that Malack rejected this viewpoint when he was actually dying.Last edited by Porthos; 2013-07-29 at 02:20 PM.
