Nah, Jake will self-prototype so that when he dies and reaches god tier he merges with his dreamselfsprite. Which will have been infused with Cal. With godlike powers over hope, the JuJu's evil urge to make everyone's life a nightmare, and Jake's fascination with skulls and love of the ladies; he'll turn into Lord English.

I'm going back to my fanon where John pulled Vriska out of the dream bubble with insane mangrit and proceeded to kill English with the POWER OF LOVE, and be good forever. No. Let me have this. Don't question it. It's a good place where Nepeta never died, where Gamzee was killed, again and again and again. And was sentenced to double dream bubble hell in the horrific tendrils of the Other Terrors.

Not to nitpick, but that's not fanon. That's...fanfiction, I suppose. Fanon refers to something that the fandom, in general, accepts as true despite there being no canonical evidence.

Also, man...relax. It's just a comic. Nothing to get worked up over. Slam a magical elixir, have some pie, and just chill out, my brother. It's all good.

Ohhh, yeah. There are certain fandoms where you just want to stay away from them. Homestuck is definitely on the top of my list.

And Vriska is a pretty polarizing character.

People just cannot accept the idea of a character who is flawed. They either have to be pure saints or complete monsters. In the same way that Fan can't seem to acknowledge Vriska has some pretty severe negative traits, there are also lots of people who refuse to acknowledge she has some redeeming features, as well.

Everything's gotta be black and white, I guess.

I remember before Meenah and Aranea's pages were separated from the "Unknown Dead Trolls" page, there was speculation that Aranea's appearance was a jab by Hussie at the fandom trope of copy-pasting and manipping sprites together (often poorly). I feel Tavrisprite confirms this, resembling Tavros and Vriska's lovechild, at least according to my prior headcanon.

That's not entirely fair, I think. People love Rose, KK, Aradia, etc and they are all flawed as heck. In fact (among the fans I know, only, of course) John is probably one of the least liked characters because he lacks so many flaws.

The difference is that Vriska and Gamzees' flaws are, well, murdering suckers. Murdering all the suckers they can. Understanding and either accepting or rejecting the explanation for these flaws are what cause it to be such a polarizing affect, much more so than the more ordinary flaws lead to.

I didn't say nobody loves flawed characters. I said many people have a tendency to ignore the flaws or to focus on them as if that was all there was to them.

Vriska, for instance. Some people feel she is an irredeemable monster with no positive features at all. Other people feel like she is completely justified in everything she did, because of the circumstances in which she was raised.

For example, nobody likes Lord English because he is obviously pure evil. But I'd be willing to bet if Gez's theory was true, and that Jake becomes Lord English, a lot of people would start proclaiming that Lord English isn't that bad a guy at all. He's just misunderstood. Really, it's the circumstances that are at fault.

It's the same mentality that drives people to make constant threads about how Thog isn't really Evil in alignment, because he likes puppies and ice cream.

Ha, well, yes, there are some people who'll never be satisfied. I do think though that Vriska is a more extreme case then Thog, where the author has explicitly tried to explain the reason behind her actions which leaves them reprehensible but understandable. Which I think is where the polarization really comes from - some people think understanding someone's reasons is the same as agreeing with them, and can only agree with a 'good' person.

I guess the Thog threads are even an example of this - "I like puppies and he likes puppies and since I'm good that means he must be good because otherwise we both like puppies but he's bad!"

(I guess for the record I think Vriska is great but a total *****.)

For me, what separates Gamzee and Vriska's death and forgiveness is not so much their actions as the result of them. Gamzee is, at present, relatively harmless. Ultimately, killing one more troll without reason just shrinks the amount of pairings and the gene pool for the trolls (in the event they can ever start reproducing again). Vriska, on the other hand, was about to go off and get everybody killed.

Vriska being killed was mostly self preservation, while Gamzee being spared seems to have been more about Species preservation.

Actually its more to do with Karkat.

In a way, Karkat is the most kind and caring of them all.

All he wants is peace underneath the front (Or possibly ancestral effected) of rage.

Because inside, when Kanaya was about to go Gamzee hunting Karkat didn't want him dead. Even after all the blood caused by Gamzee, and even after the possibilities he might be doing now he still wanted peace. He wants as little Bloodshed as possible.

Hussie's taught me not to take anything for granted. Like characters staying alive. Or dead. And that I shouldn't get too attached to anyone. Or anything. Like sanity. A very, very important lesson.

Having a Freudian Excuse for being a jerkass bully and murderer doesn't make you less of a jerkass bully and murderer. Gamzee's deeds are of course equally (perhaps more) vile, excuse or not, but somehow, he's so extreme that I, at least have trouble imagining him as a real person (well, I guess he's sort of nightmarishly Jeffrey Dahmer-ish, but luckily, few can relate to that). Vriska feels more real (she's had much more character development) and therefore I personally find her more despicable. That doesn't mean she's not a wellwritten character, of course.

I feel sad... for Tavros! Vriska surely deserves this.
