Re: Tools of Chaos
Grab some rations from my pack, but try to continue on towards the light.

Re: Tools of Chaos
The rations help your hunger. You make it to the light and find it to be an inn. It is quiet and a what can be described best as a gnome with wings tends the bar.

Re: Tools of Chaos
Glance at the celestial. If she motions me forward, I'll talk to the gnome and ask if he knows where the cathedral of portals is. If not, I'll just let the celestial take the lead.

Re: Tools of Chaos
He does not know and asks for details on your journey. You tell him about the vortex and understanding hits him. The cathedral you seek is on one of this planes tendrils and you came through a vortex tunnel that transports you from one place to another. Some are more stable than others. Usually they go places that over lap with other planes, though there are some that only transport within the relative confines of this plane. You can't walk or fly everywhere on this plane. It exists in pockets of various sizes. You are currently on the largest pocket of the plane.

So, how do we get back to the material plane?

Re: Tools of Chaos
First you have to learn plane shift. If that doesn't work, you get to one of the places where there is a plane portal, like the cathedral you mentioned. Said portals are usually where there is some overlap with other planes. There is a researcher in the next town that has a map that could be useful to you.

Re: Tools of Chaos
Can you tell us more about where to find him? Turn to the celestial "Shall we find this researcher tonight?"

Not unless he likes being disturbed. The gnome shakes his head no vigorously. I have my prisoner and she won't escape. I may have most of my health, but I need to rest. You probably do too.

Re: Tools of Chaos
Use the rest of my spells to cure the celestials wounds, and my own. Rest and renew my spells. I'lll post the new list when I get to a real computer.

Re: Tools of Chaos
The night passes quietly enough. The morning greets you with many patrons at the inn and much excitement coming from them. The celestial, whose name you finally learn is Calypsa, gives you a look you interpret to not get involved. The redhead is still secure.

Re: Tools of Chaos
The dungeon master assumes that you ask for directions. You receive said directions. You go to the town, where you are directed to what looks like a huge tree stump with a hole for a door. The redhead starts getting really agitated and says that she will help you get back any way she can, as long as you don't go in and talk to this researcher. Calypsa is not inclined to listen to her.

Re: Tools of Chaos
Knock on the door. Explain our plight and ask for help. Offer payment if necessary.

Re: Tools of Chaos
What closely resembles a human, but with bright red eyes and pointed teeth answers. He looks narrowly at the redhead. Je'zeera, what have you gotten yourself into this time. Another plot that spun out of control? She ignores him. You were always the talkative one when you had something to offer or bargain with, but could never handle it when things when poorly for you.
He turns his attention to you and after you explain your situation he chuckles. I would be more than happy to help you. My payment would be for you to leave Je'zeera with me. In exchange, I will give you a copy of a map that displays the various vortexes and their destinations relative to positions on the material plain. Not comprehensive, but stable. It would probably get you where you want to go.
Calypsa wants to negotiate another payment because "she didn't come this far to let her prisoner go". Je'zeera says something you don't understand, but it sounds really bad. The researcher. Ra'meal just grins bemused at her.

I'm afraid she is our prisoner. Surely we can find some other arrangement? diplomacy - (1d20)[10]

Re: Tools of Chaos
If she is your prisoner then you are responsible for her. In that case, I have a job for you to do that she should have decades ago. There is a gem in a thieves residence that she was supposed to obtain for me. I want you to retrieve it. It is in the rich district of the town.

Re: Tools of Chaos
Is that acceptable, Calypsa? If you wish to remain here and guard the prisoner, I can obtain the gem.
Assuming she agrees to let me go, with or without her help, I'll ask for more details about the gem and where it might be kept, as well as how to find the house.Originally Posted by The Giant

Re: Tools of Chaos
We will try it this way first. Je'zeera pipes in "If you released my restraints I could be an enormous help on this mission. I may not want to go with you, but I would rather that than be stuck on this plane. As an erinyes, if I make an oath to you I must uphold it."

Re: Tools of Chaos
You sense she is telling the truth. You remember that Erinyes are devils, and that devils are lawful, so it is probably possible.
How about she obeys all commands we give her?

Re: Tools of Chaos
OOC: Angus isn't actually very bright, so while I could try to think of some long, convoluted oath that would be completely without loopholes, Angus does not think that way.
Maybe more general, such as "Help in the mission without trying to escape." But she's your prisoner, so do as you see fit.Originally Posted by The Giant

Re: Tools of Chaos
The three discuss it until it is agreed upon that "Je'zeera will follow instruction given by Angus and/or Calypsa until you have delivered the gem to Ra'meal." Upon making this promise the bindings are loosed and you make your way to where the gem is. It is a large house with a pink carved stone fence. Creatures that you can't identify sit motionless on the edge of the roof and what looks like a griffon lounges on the lawn.
