"Hold still then. I'll get you out of these." Charity says, and gets to work doing just that. In a few minutes, Calvin should be able to get up, though he might want to listen to Charity when she says, "Don't stand up too fast. You'll be woozy for a bit. I'll get you a bottle of juice, and then we can head out of here."

Infirmary

Calvin sits up running his hands through his hair holding the back of his neck as he stretches. He looks pretty tired after this whole ordeal. He looks over to where Anna is sitting.

"Thank you for helping. I really appreciate it."

Anna raises a hand slightly in a wave - the only sign she's heard him.

"Oh dear. Anna, I think we'd better get you into a bed," Charity says. Anna makes some sort of grunting noise that Charity takes as permission, so she calls for help, and a couple of orderlies put Anna on a gurney and roll her off to a patient room. "She'll be okay. She just needs to rest it off."

Calvin frowns a bit as he watches her head away. He hops out of the bed getting his feet underneath himself.

"Good, and thank you Charity. I appreciate all your help."

"You're welcome, Calvin," Charity said. "I'm just really glad you called me before anything bad happened to you."

She'll lead him out of the base, getting them each a bottle of juice from a vending machine along the way. "Do you want me to walk with you to your Uncle's?" she asks after they've passed through the gate.

Calvin manages to seem a lot more relaxed as they leave, though that may be the effects of the anesthesia still in him. Or maybe because he is just a better actor when he is of sound mind.

After they pass through the gates Calvin can't help but turn back and look at the base. He had seen it before from a distance, but never pictured himself walking into it, or out of it for that matter. He briefly wonders just how involved in Remnant Chairty really is.

"Yeah I would appreciate it."

Then into the Inside thread with the pair of them. Charity will let Calvin lead the way, unless he seems woozy or under compulsion again.

Jyarl couldn't help but wince when his razor nicked the scar tissue on his neck. Thankfully Jefferies being around had stemmed his use of profanity to an acceptable level, so he kept himself from actually saying something. Even so, it hurt enough that it distracted him, to the point where on the way out of the bathroom, he tripped over his pug and tumbled down, landing hard and moaning for a moment. It took a groan of effort for Jyarl to turn his head to try and make sure the dog was okay, but all he saw was the panting happy abysmally ugly face of Gorgutz before the dog started licking him.

"Yeah, yeah. I'm sorry." He muttered, reaching out to scratch his ears.

Jefferies hears the noise and comes out of her room. She sees the blood on Jyarl's neck and shakes her head a bit, then crouches on the floor next to him and grins. "Daddy! You din't even get it from a fight!"

"No, I didn't." Jyarl agrees with a smile before slowly getting up, ruffling up Jefferies' hair as he does so. "Got it while shaving. How are you doing, dear?" He asks.

Jefferies stands up too, and Jyarl might notice that she's getting taller. The better nutrition she's received since coming to live with him has triggered a growth spurt.

She looks down at his question, and shuffles her feet a little. "Master Chief haded a question. I din't know the answer."

Jyarl will reach down to take his daughter's hand and guides her to the couch so they can both sit down before he tries to pull her into his lap with his arms around her. "Yeah? What did Master Chief want to know?" He asks, feeling worried but strangely comfortable at the moment.

Jefferies clambers into Jyarl's lap and snuggles against him, fiddling with the fabric of his t-shirt as she talks.

"She said, 'Jefferies, you used to have a orc mommy and daddy. Den you got a doption to gib you a new daddy. But is you eber gonna have a new mommy?' And I said, 'I dunno.' And she said, 'I wish that Missy was your mommy and dat she lived here wif us.'" Jefferies looked up at her adopted father. "Don't you tink dat's a good idea Master Chief had? For Missy to be here all the time?"

Jyarl is a bit stunned by it, but after a thought, realizes that he isn't surprised. It takes a moment, but he smiles warmly after a second and leans down to kiss her forehead. "Yes. Yes I do believe it is a good idea."

Jefferies hugs Jyarl tightly, relieved and happy at the answer, but still not done with her questioning. "Will dat make her my mommy? Do they do doptions for mommys?"

Jyarl smiles a bit and rests his cheek on the top of her head as he hugs her back. "Yes, that'd make her your mommy." He assures her, choosing to avoid mentioning the amount of paperwork that'd be involved, as well as a number of other things. After all, it wasn't that far of a stretch from what they were doing already, so what was a little paperwork on top of all that?

Without any warning, Jefferies starts to cry, the built up tension from worrying about this question for weeks finally released. As usual when she cries, she tries to hide it, keeping her face covered without realizing that her shaking shoulders give her away.

Jyarl holds Jefferies as tight as she'll allow, his arms wrapped around her body and his hand on the back of her head to comfort her. "We can both ask her to be your mommy in a couple days, as a surprise, alright? I'm sure she'll love to be your mommy."

Jefferies tries to surreptitiously wipe off the tears, then looks up, her green face blotchy and her eyes red. "But what if she says no and it makes Master Chief cry?"

Jyarl leans down to kiss his daughter's forehead. "She'll never say no, but if you want, you can ask her yourself tomorrow evening. I need to pick up something to let everyone know she'll be your mommy first."

"Promise she'll say yes?" Jefferies asks. "Do you promise, for real and for eber?"

"I promise." Jyarl tells Jefferies with a reassuring smile before hugging her tightly once more.

Jefferies spends the whole night alternating between joy and temper, her mood so high that it's easy for her to tip over. Missy was working that night, so Jyarl had to deal with trying to get her into bed that night.

Eventually he's successful though, and on his own the rest of the night.

Tobias Vulpan approaches the front door and asks to meet with whomever is in charge of counter-intelligence. Or whatever Remnant has in the way of an Intelligence Director. Or, really, anybody in their upper leadership who has the time to talk with him.

Jyarl puts Jefferies in bed and smiles as he watches her sleep for a while before heading to the living room to make a call. "Sue? Yeah, I know its late. I hope I didn't interrupt anything, but I need a favor. Alice there too? Well, I was hoping you, or both of you I guess, could just come over and watch my place for a couple hours in case Jefferies wakes. I gotta go out to get something very important to the both of us. Thanks."

It takes a moment for the couple to arrive, but after a bit of talking, Jyarl gives them his thanks before heading out.

The next evening, when Missy comes back, she'll find the place is spotless and the lights are dimmed slightly to let the candle flames work better. Dinner is already set on the table for the three of them and she'll find Jyarl and Jefferies dressed up a bit.

Gate

If Tobias gives up his weaponry and signs in the visitor registry, he'll be guided to a Meeting Room where he'll be told someone will meet him soon. After a little wait, if he's still there, Tobias will see a uniformed Halfling enter the room, giving him a nod. "I don't think we've met. I'm Carl Goodfellow. What can I help you with?" he asks.

Jefferies is wearing her favourite dress, and even Master Chief has a bow around her head. "Is it time, Daddy?" she asks excitedly.

"Hey Slugger," Missy says, stopping to give Jefferies a hug. "What's the occasion?" she asks Jyarl

Tobias Vulpan. The fox-eyed commander nods back. I have some information I'd like you to be aware of. Proper communication among allies and all that. Is this room secure?

"Go ahead, Jefferies." He tells the orc with a small smile before looking at Missy with a great deal of warmth and restrained excitement. She'll see that his good hand is kept in his pocket for now, holding something within.

Meeting Room

The halfling nods. "It is as secure as it possibly can to the outside world." Carl states. That doesn't mean there isn't some sort of security in the room, just that it is safe from those outside of Remnant from getting hold of it.

Jefferies climbs up on her chair and stands, putting her taller than Missy. Quivering in excitement, she holds Master Chief tightly. "Missy, will you be my mommy?"

Missy is completely shocked and looks from Jefferies to Jyarl, her expression frightened and hopeful.

Meeting Room

HALO has contracted a rookie intelligence agent from the Royal Clandestine Agency to gather information for us in the city of Inside. Tobias shrugs self-deprecatingly. See, we have a lot of powerful members, but we barely know anything about the evils in the Nexus. Anyway, the agent, who is going by the name of Bran, is fresh out of training and getting some field experience before the RCA gives him a real assignment. I instructed him to not interfere with anything and to just be a passive observer. I don't expect you'll have any problems with him at all, but, as a professional courtesy, I'm keeping you in the loop.
