Engineering data sharing is done. Then Sunny tries to get as far away from the goblin chopper as possible before it crashes into someone.

The goblins get back to work on their chopper, having decided to start planning the rocket after they're done with the work on the chopper for the day.

A Message to Vyrn

I am hesitant to release such a number of my Praetorian Guard to be members of your security detail, but will do so under a number of stipulations.

First, they will follow no orders contrary to their mission to safeguard you especially during times where they may be taken out of Jurisdiction.

Two, you will provide ample room and board as well as pay at a rate of <insert nearly extortionate rate of pay>. This includes hazard and combat pay.

Three, they will be given utmost privacy in their rooms as required.

Four, to do their jobs, they may be required to breach your security and must be allowed to do so. This includes updated Teleport codes.

Any attempt to breach such rules will result in immediate removal of the security with possible repercussions depending on the severity of breach.

These terms are non-negotiable.

In return, they will remain on station 24 hours a day in 12 hour shifts and work to maintain the safety of Sanctuary and your personal safety above all for a term no less than one month's time or the equivalent amount of times their intervention has proven a necessity for your survival.

"Good Afternoon, my name is Friedrich Mei'nof, and I'm looking to apply for a position in the Remnant."

[Front Gate]

While a recruitment center would have been useful to have, it was an installment that had yet to be included on base although, given it's unique design, such would just take up space better used for other things. As such, it's lack meant that the only way to gain access to the interior would be through the gate which was manned by a few quite resolute-seeming guards.

There would be a nod of acknowledgement by one of them as Friedrich approached though he would be asked to halt before be came too close. Assuming that his phrasing was generally the same, then the response would be a quick radio call by another guard while the first cracked a small smile. "You do, eh? Well then, just why do you want to join up? 'Playing soldiers' is hardly what we do around here so if that's your intent then off with you. But if you're looking to do some good around here then tell me what your after now as Sullivan calls up an officer for you." he said. It was the first step of the whole interview process and generally easier to weed out the less than serious applicants here to keep from wasting anyone's time.

"Well," Fritz said, "I'm mostly interested in the law enforcement component of the Remnant. I've always wanted to fight crime and help the community. I already have had two years experience working as a private security guard." Fritz then produced documents relating to the aforementioned job.

[Front Gate]

If allowed, then the guard with the radio would take the documents before saying to the first "Lt. Salf is on his way." The first nodded in understanding before returning his attention to Fritz. "Hah. Seems like you're a lucky one today. He'll be here in under five." he said.

In reality it wound up being only three as a a man of average height in Remnent dress opened the gateway. He had a small beard and mustache in the 'doorknocker' style but held an otherwise plain face with brown eyes to match his hair. Clearing his throat, Salf nodded to the two guards before speaking to the new applicant. "Friedrich ...Me'nov? Did I pronounce that right? If you could come with me, we could get this interview started in proper." he said motioning for Fritz to follow. A pair of guards would be waiting to escort the applicant and the officer just on the other side of the gate as the latter lead the way. "Tell me, Frederich, do you have a preferred name by the way? But tell me just how long you've been here in the Nexus if you would? It's one of those formality questions but it's good to know how much of a handle you have on the place."

"You can call me Fritz." he said. "I've lived in this place my entire life. I live in the Grey Zone in Inside."

[Terumitsu]

[Front Gate - Interrogation Rooms]

It wasn't the nicest of names but one had to call the secured interview areas something.

But it was one of these rooms inset with the typical false mirror on one side that Fritz would be lead into. At the least there seemed to be a half-decent window with a view rather than the stuffy sort of cells one might find on various crime dramas. It was also much better lit than most crime dramas as well but that was a given seeing how a single candle had more light that most scenes of such.

"The Grey Zone? I see. Take a seat please." Salf said, gesturing to a moderately comfortable-seeming chair. Taking a seat himself, he would take the moment to read through the information contained in the documents, searching out details and any commendations or demerits that might have occurred in the applicant's career as well as any notable events. Things like any particular rank as well as duties would be of importance here as well.

Fritz, in the meantime, kept explaining his past career.
"...so I worked as a security guard for a bank for two years. I mostly worked in the lobby. It was routine and uneventful, until one day, these two guys, an elf and a dwarf, rob the place and hold everyone hostage..."

[Interrogation Rooms]

Well, it was hard to know what sort of things were in the documents without it being somehow communicated but generally a gist would be fine. That said, the talk about 'this particular day' was of interest to Salf. Turning point stories usually were.

"What happened that day? What did you do?" Salf asked patently. A recount of a high-stress situation would be a good initial measure of how Fritz would react under pressure. He wouldn't be disqualified if his temperament served to be too cautious or too brash as that could be adjusted with training but it would be much easier if he turned out to be the former of the two. Hot headed sorts usually seemed to have some kind of 'lone wolf hero' thing going on that was generally a bit detrimental to team action.

Sunny will receive a call from Gimzig, some weeks after he agreed to help her with the no-longer-MagSat.

"Sunny Evans," she answers. Or rather, a robotic imitation of her voice answers.

[Morty]

[Phone]

"Grimzig Ironpick here," the goblin's voice will say in the speaker. "We've finally managed to consistently get our test rockets into orbit. We believe we can get the satellite up there."

"How safe is it? Sat has been hurt enough. I don't want him to suffer any more." Sunny asks.

[Morty]

[Phone]

"It's as safe as any launch of a satellite," Grimzig responds. "We've been working on it for a while now and I think we've removed most of the chance for errors."

"When do you want to perform the launch?" Sunny asks.

[Morty]

[Phone]

"We have everything prepared, so we can begin as soon as you can arrive at [location in Outside some distance from Remnant] with the satellite," Grimzig says.

A date and time are agreed. Sunny will appear in the Outside thread tomorrow since her player is tired.

[Dal]

"The first thing they told us was to get down on the ground, which I did." Fritz continued. "They had shotguns, so I did as they said, lay flat on the ground, and they took my revolver away."

"Now, when the dwarf went with a clerk to the vault to get the money, I noticed the elf had his attention focused on a difficult hostage, who kept hurling racial slurs at him. So, while he was distracted, I pulled out my retractable baton - by the way, those things can KILL someone if you use 'em right - snuck up behind him, and WACKED him right in the back of the head."

"As he fell to the ground, I quickly ordered the hostages to simply get out of the bank. Then I grabbed the elf's shotgun, and took cover outside behind a car. As I called the Remnant to show up at the bank, I saw the dwarf come out from the vault, bags loaded with cash. But get this! The moment he saw his elven accomplice knocked out and all the hostages gone, he fainted!"

"Thing is, despite the trouble I went through, I didn't even get a raise."

[Terumitsu]

[Interrogation Rooms]

Tapping on a pad and taking a few notes as Fritz spoke, the man quietly called in another; handing the documents to him and whispering to make photocopies for a file. "I see. And what were you thinking during all of this?" Salf said as he made note of the 'raise' remark. It may have been a joke but the officer was not well known for his sense of humor.

[Dal]

"Well, I was pretty nervous throughout the whole thing. I knew that if I screwed up, I'd have the blood of fifteen or twenty innocent people on my hands. I was actually surprised that I managed to knock the robber out, because as I snuck up on him, I was afraid that he'd suddenly turn around and blow me into the next decade with his gun."

"Even when I did knock the elf out, I scrambled to get the hostages out, because I thought the dwarf would rush in at any moment after I knocked his accomplice out."

[Terumitsu]

[Interrogation Rooms]

With an impassive nod, Salf made a final note before setting down the stylus and leveling his gaze at Fritz. "A heroic effort." he said. "Seems your risk paid off although I suspect that it would have only been your life should you have failed. The ones who are smart with hostages try to keep as many as they are able for negotiative purposes. The less intelligent.. Well, they often don't bother with hostages." he said a tad darkly.

"Still, you posess good character from what I understand. Tell me, what weapons are you most familiar with? And finally, have you ever needed, in self defense or what have you, to take the life of another?" he said in a grave tone. There were the adventurers around here that spoke of such with an attitude of it being just another chore... Though it was widely accepted that adventurers were already a bit mad. But to place the proper weight on the subject was necessary, especially in such circumstances

[Dal]

"Thankfully, no, and this incident was no exception. However, I heard the elf suffered permanent brain damage from the baton blow I gave him. I won't go into detail, but it definitely ain't something I'm proud of, even if he was a criminal."

[Terumitsu]

[Interrogation Rooms]

Salf nodded at this and made one final note on his pad. He was about to speak when the same man from before came in with two folders, one which was given to Salf and the other, containing the various documents that Fritz had relinquished earlier, to it's owner. "An admirable stance. Still, if you were called upon the act do you feel that you would be able to perform your duty? I ask as an abstract as it may be possible to complete your career without needing to fire a shot but knowing the area as I do, preparing for the worst is what we must do."

[Dal]

"I would. I wouldn't be something to be proud of, but if lives depended on it, I would not hesitate to use deadly force."

[Terumitsu]

[Interrogation Rooms]

A final nod and Salf stood up, tucking the pad and folder under one arm as he motioned for Fritz to do the same. "Well, I think we're done with this bit, now. I just need to confirm that it is indeed your wish to become a patrol officer, correct? Beyond that, there will be some time for processing and background checks but from what I've seen and heard, those are just a formality." The lieutenant said with a small smile. "We just need some kind of contact information where we might reliably reach you. In the interim, I'd suggest relaxing while you can. We can be a little, ah.. Grueling on our new blood so being well rested would be to your benefit. Have you any further questions?"

[Dal]

"I'm ready to keep Inside's streets safe, sir!" Fritz said. "And my contact info is...here!" Fritz quickly wrote his address, phone number, what have you on a scrap of paper and give it to the Lieutenant.

[Interrogation Rooms -> Front Gate]

Sliding the note in with the file, Salf would take the lack of further questions as a sign that this was over for now and simply nodded. The soft-spoken officer would then lead the way back out to the main gate with about as many words spoken in transit as the trip before though there was a brief detour where he placed the files in a slot next to a door bearing his name.

Once there, though, the gate would open to allow Fritz to leave. Rather unceremonious, yes, but ceremony was hardly prized over efficiency here. At the very least, Fritz now had some time to relax a bit. Maybe enjoy some time where he needn't be on guard against any potential assailant and just live a bit.

Or stay at home and enjoy a good book. Was up to him at any rate.
