Re: AT Tries His Hand At Art
The shoe. It needs some sort of symbol on it. Shoes like that don't exist anymore.

Re: AT Tries His Hand At Art
Hmmm. OK, I guess I should post some more ... Interesting stuff.
An OC of mine I hope to one day use in a webcomic. Although, of my few ideas, this is one of the less fleshed out ones.
My friends all say it looks like something out of Power Rangers. Thoughts?

Re: AT Tries His Hand At Art
Those are quite recognizable for blind contour drawings. Out of curiosity, how long do you think you spent on each of them?
The first thing that sprung to mind when I saw your OC was He-Man. It's mostly the style that you've drawn him in, I imagine he wouldn't evoke such images if he was drawn differently. If you're going for that sort of style, I would say you've done a nice job.
I'm looking forward to seeing more!

Yeah, i could totally see that guy standing next to Rita Repulsa.
(Blind contour drawing, hm? I'm... kinda suspicious of that. Sounds a lot like Drawing With The Right Side Of The Brain. (Or was it left?) )

Re: AT Tries His Hand At Art
@Nix Nihilia: Why thank you! I think the shoe took me a little under an hour and then the I shaved about 10 minutes off that for the flower and another 10 minutes when doing the hand.
Gotta' admit, I'm not so familiar with He-Man. And honestly I'm not sure what style I'm going for. Shonen-Manga-Esque, I suppose.
@Domocheesky: Sweet.
Part of it is to use the other side of your brain, yes. Blind contour means you don't look down at your drawing while you're making it. Another part of it is to just get better at not having to constantly go back and forth from your drawing to whatever it is you're drawing.
So ... 2 more OCs from a different comic idea. (My much more fleshed out one.)
Kaden, the protagonist and ...
Ben (the Preacherman), the deuteragonist.

Re: AT Tries His Hand At Art
Your OCs look interesting, but their poses look stiff like they're action figures (it's a problem I have too). I think the legs aren't quite right too - like they aren't properly holding the weight of the figure (again a problem I have ). I'm not sure what exactly I'd do to fix it because it's something I'm figuring out at the moment as well.
Edit: Your line work is a heck of lot better than mine though.Last edited by Trazoi; 2012-02-11 at 07:48 PM.

Re: AT Tries His Hand At Art
Mmmmm. I see what you mean. I think the rigidity is bound to happen when you just have a plain white BG, but noted none the less.
Trying out another costume for Kaden ... I can't believe people used to dress this way.
And messing around with a more "fluid" pose.Spoiler

Re: AT Tries His Hand At Art
The characters look a lot better in the fluid poses. In the first one though, I'd try to make it more apparent that his leg is forward and bent; under the coat it just looks short.

A fluid pose won't save a drawing done with a dead line.

Re: AT Tries His Hand At Art
I'd apologize for the long gap between posts, but no one ever looks in here, so it doesn't matter! *cough* Anyway, I had been doing a really quick self-portrait/caricature of myself as practice and somewhere along the line it sort of turned into a bit of troll face...

Re: AT Tries His Hand At Art
Some alleged "anatomy" practice.
A hand I did in charcoal made earlier this year in an art class. Just got it back. Wish I had a better scanner.
I've got some bigger pieces from that art class that I'm actually pretty proud of, but I have no clue how to get a nice digital copy.

Re: AT Tries His Hand At Art
The hand is like a hitchhiker's as he stands on the street on a dark, stormy night, and as you reach out the window to shake his hand it falls off and he gives it to you, and his other hand is a hook, and his face is also a hook. Also, top man has no top head, which I have to assume is an accurate portrayal of his self, and thus I respect him for it.
Maybe the bigger images you could take a picture of and upload that picture of the picture? It might be lower quality, but they'd be up, eh? Also, how long did you have after your test that you had time to draw a face and torso-half?

Re: AT Tries His Hand At Art
It's a good thing I know you on a personal level.
Anywaaaaaaaay. I've been pretty lazy lately. So no full drawings, just some sketches.
Spoiler
Horses! Way harder to draw than I thought they'd be. But oh well. It was fun. I guess I made their heads too big. Oh well. There's always next time.
Spoiler
A drawing of a big ol' Elizabethan Mansion. For ... Something. Still need to practice this sort of things a bit more. But it's only a sketch. Ho hum.

Re: AT Tries His Hand At Art
That top man sports a top hat and fine vest.
He is a fine man, drawn finely.
The bottom man looks surely like he is out for blood. My blood.
Drawn finely.
