I am shocked, shocked! that innuendo has been going on in the LGBTA thread.

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 22: The Best There Is
That's different from strict homophobia, though. Homophobia would imply the fear of homosexual people, not just homosexual sex.
... so, yeah, in it's just semantics, I guess.
Plus, from what I gather, you didn't treat your friend badly because of that, and you're aware it's irrational. I was mainly speaking about homophobes who try justifying the insults they throw at gay people with "but that's because I'm AFRAID of them!".
@Nick: welcome here! Glad to read things are going better with your friends.
I'm asexual (well, more like a particular brand of asexuality), and my boyfriend is a transman. Hey, reminds me that today, it's been 2 years we're a couple...Originally Posted by on Dwarf Fortress succession gamesOriginally Posted by Dwarf Fortress 0.40.01 bugs

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 22: The Best There Is
Thoughts for the day:
Gay spiders have it easy, because they don't get eaten after mating.
Being trans and spider sucks, though, because the female is 15-30 times larger (by volume) than the male. Do you realize how much bulking up a trans woman spider would have to do? Or how harsh the diet for a trans man spider must be?Avatar by CoffeeIncluded

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 22: The Best There Is
As long as you're a nice spider person, not a drider or something. Those things are creepy, and I like spiders... Though, to be fair, that might have more to do with the changes made to the humanoid half than the addition of a spider body.
Which has made me curious now; in what way are you a spider person, exactly? I'm not sure how to visualize you.
Oh, and welcome to the new person from me, too! Lurkers are definitely welcome here.

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 22: The Best There Is
Androgynous
SpoilerHere comes ****
He's wearing a skirt
Here comes Jane
You know she's sporting a chain
Same hair revolution
Same build evolution
Tomorrow who's going to fuss
And they love each other so
Androgynous
Closer than you know
Love each other so
Androgynous
Well don't get him wrong
And don't get him mad
He might be a father
But he sure ain't a dad
She don't need
Advice that they send to her
She's happy with the way she looks
She's happy with her gender
And they love each other so
Androgynous
Closer than you know
Love each other so
Androgynous
Mirror image see no damage
See no evil at all
Cupie dolls and urine stalls
Will be laughed at the way
You're laughed at now
Now something meets boy
And something meets girl
They both are the same
They're overjoyed in this world
Same hair revolution, unisex, evolution
Tomorrow who's gonna fuss
And tomorrow **** is wearing pants
Tomorrow Jane's wearing a dress
Future outcasts and a they don't last
And a today the people dress the way
That they please
The way they tried to do in the last century
And they love each other so
Androgynous
Closer than you know
Love each other so
Androgynous
Androgynous
Androgynous
Don't you get it

And on the subject of trans spiders, surely eating your own kind is pretty fatty, so maybe 1, 2 hook ups, needed?

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 22: The Best There Is
Nice! Though I'm surprised that 'finding clothes' isn't on the list of dislikes. Getting shirts that are designed for a six-limbed torso can't be fun, after all. Unless spider people/shapeshifters are common in your world?
Also, none of the pictures in your art thread are loading for me, even now that I've discovered one has to click the thing saying 'Posted Image' to see them, rather than that being pseudo-thumbnail text. Unless they usually take a really long time to show up, in which case I suppose I might just not be waiting long enough...
Depends. Might be more than that. After all, I'm pretty sure a great deal of a non-humanoid spider's mass comes from chitin, which probably isn't all that digestible, even for another spider.

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 22: The Best There Is
There's a lack of absolutely fabulous insects here.
That photographer is absolutely amazing, even the spider pictures are pretty.
On the subject of animals, I learnt recently platypuses have 10 sex chromosomes. I have no bloody idea how it even works or how frequently intersex platypuses are born (but few things about platypuses aren't puzzling, after all).Originally Posted by on Dwarf Fortress succession gamesOriginally Posted by Dwarf Fortress 0.40.01 bugs

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 22: The Best There Is
Hmmm. I can't really think of many sexual acts, hetero-, homo- or otherwise, that aren't pretty messy and disgusting. Perhaps anal sex is a bit more icky because ewww poop, but still... I'd say the main problem is a lack of that comfortable familiarity most people have with heterosexuality that allows them to forget how yucky it can be, rather than any kind of problem with homosexuality.
EDIT: I'm assuming here that you were actually saying that anal sex is objectively gross compared to not-anal sex, if that isn't the case then I blame lack of sleep. I can't think well at the moment.Last edited by Lanaya; 2012-04-10 at 06:59 AM.

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 22: The Best There Is
Some days you can leave for 12 hours and not miss too much. Other days, not the case.
I would like to say that I suggested the green signature idea to SiuiS. Clearly I should have also suggested the blue signature idea to Arachu!
If someone tries to tell my father about their golfing exploits, he says "Listen, I have the same attitude towards golf as I do towards homosexuality. I'm happy for you that you had fun on the weekend with another consenting adult. But I do not want to hear the details Monday morning."
To be clear, the people I heard say that proved themselves to be intolerant separately. But I have little time for anyone who says that stuff. No one's having raucous gay sex in your front garden (if they are, call the guards!), so if it freaks you out to think about it, just don't. It's like breastfeeding. If it makes you uncomfortable, that is your problem, not the person breastfeeding and certainly not the baby. Gay people and breastfeeding parents have the right to do what they're doing. You have the right to look away, to walk away or to not assist them in it but you do not have the right to bully or harass them or to make them stop.
PAINT!
Too late.
Happy anniversary!
Also, welcome Nick! I'm a bisexual (or pansexual, but I use "bi") cis woman and an ardent feminist.
That's really cute!

Adorable.
Looks kind of like home.
Also adorable.
And what's wrong with being a male angler fish? They get to have brain melting sex (literally) for the rest of their lives from the moment they find the right gal.

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 22: The Best There Is
Regarding the nitpicking of the word "homophobia": Technically, the word just means "fear of that which is the same". So like, those cookie-cutter girls back in high school. I know they always freaked me out a bit.
Regarding bugs: Bugs creep me out a bit but mostly because I don't like the idea of a living creature moving around me without my knowledge. Also, I'm easily startled, and a bug crawling across my leg will make me jump out of my skin. And then there's also that basic instinctive fear that some people seem to have, and which I know was much stronger when I was a kid because I had bug-related nightmares all the time, that causes me to squirm a little when I see a bug.Jude P.

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 22: The Best There Is
Personal bugaboo: Why, in every work of fiction I've seen, does anyone who shows any interest in someone outside their normal preferences get immediately assumed to be monosexual the new way.
Willow was pretty clearly not gay, and I'm pretty sure Watson isn't straight, and... Meh.

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 22: The Best There Is
Spiders etc (spoiler'd for off-topic-ness and childhood trauma):
Spoiler
I am completely fine with insects and arachnids. Sometimes they startle me and I don't really want, say, a big spider in my hair, but when I find spiders, even big ones the size of ... um ... I think, say, with a leg-spread of a jam-jar lid (multicultural chat is tricky), I pick them up in my hands and put them outside. I'm fine with ants, bees, spiders, flies, even wasps. I had mosquitoes, but only because I'm allergic and when they bite me I get giant swollen itchy rashes the size of (dammit) let's say my palm.
The only exception is when there are so many insects they crawl over one another. One? Great. Two? Fine. Three? Sure. 260? Good job. The moment it hits the point where one insect thinks it would be faster to go over than around, I don't like it anymore and I get the shivers.
I have a completely sane and rational reason for this very specific discomfort. When I was 2, I got into my bed. My bed felt funny, kind of tingly. I pulled back my covered and there were THOUSANDS OF ANTS EVERYWHERE ALL OVER ME AND MY TEDDIES AND MY BED. All things considering, I recovered very well, and the only three things that remain from this trauma are
1. Discomfort with too many insects
2. A horrible memory
3. A habit of pulling down my covers before I get into bed and ripping the covers off really fast if I'm uncomfortable
Number 3 came in handy. I was in Australia in a rainforest, and I went to my bed and pulled back the covers before I got in. Bed. Full. Of. Ants. AGAIN!!
I don't know! And this also happens in real life! I read a really nice piece about same-sex marriage today but it was all about "gay men and lesbians". I'm lucky that I can marry my partner if I want (and he wants) because he was born with a penis. But I'd still love him if he was a woman, but then we wouldn't be able to marry BUT I wouldn't be a lesbian! I suppose you could then call us a "lesbian couple", but I would not be a lesbian. Just like now, we're a "heterosexual couple" but I'm not heterosexual. Non-monosexual visibilty!

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 22: The Best There Is
Spiders are not insects! Although, that one is fabulous. :3
This picture-sharing has both fascinated and horrified me, it's a strange feeling. @_.
I think it might stem from the mental barriers some people have against anything outside the HetNormBox. Essentially the same source as the idea that homosexuality and transgenderism is related, society tries to fit everything into the previous worldview even if it makes no sense.
On the plus side, that last sentence made me picture Willow as Sherlock Holmes with Hermione as Watson. It was silly. X3Treasured Quotes
