Thanks for telling me about this stuff! #notintheUS I didn't mean to say that the less privileged members don't fight too, just that it's (a) harder for them to get something going that catches on in a big way (it's way easier to get things done the more privilege you have - money opens doors, as does an upper-class background, to get laws changed and get your story into newspapers), (b) they often get whitewashed out when the more privileged end wants to seem more "respectable", and (c) as you say, they reap the benefits last. From what I understand of the (not very big, very late to the scene) early gay rights movement here, it was relatively privileged gay men (white, obviously, see above!) who were the first to make progress because they were otherwise "respectable".

Also re: Stonewall and its importance for the LGBT movement. It may be relevant to point out that there are countries outside the U.S.

For instance, RFSL (the umbrella organization for LGBT organizations in Sweden) was founded in 1950 as a section of the danish organization (founded in 1948). Either time travel is real or the claims I heard that Stonewall was the starting point for the organized gay movement are considerably exaggerated.

You're right; I was specifically talking about the LGBT movement in the US. I've been using the Internet for years and I still regularly forget that I'm speaking to an international group nine times out of ten. I also of course agree that the LGBT rights movement goes back in America and elsewhere further than the Stonewall riots. (Karl Heinrich, 1825-1895, is usually regarded as the first modern gay activist, and sometimes even the first gay man in the modern sense, and an organized movement has existed in some form since at least him.)

Having to prove that you are "trans enough" basically. E.g. there is a large history of trans* people being denied or prevented from transitioning if they didn't fit into certain ideas of gender that the medical sector had. (e.g. trans women having to be attracted to men, presenting feminine, wearing dresses and all that.)

The only person who can know if you are trans* or not is you; your therapist ought to be a guide, not a doorkeeper.

(Also denial of the validity of say non-op trans* people and the like; the facts are that every trans* person has different needs transition wise and that we shouldn't be tried to fit into a single narrative.)

If it works on cis women then there's no reason why it wouldn't work on trans women. Birth would probably be by c-section - I'm not sure a neovagina is built to handle that kind of stretching.

You realize you'd never be able to go somewhere where there are crowds, don't you? And that every time you got a cold it would be a potential emergency? Immunosuppresants aren't things to kid around with. Not to dissuade you, but I want you to be certain of what you're signing on for?

I don't think there's any reason you could give that would be enough to make it not worth it.

Well, I think your feelings are completely legitimate. It must be really frustrating, and it's very hard to feel totally zen towards people who CAN have what you want and dismiss how great it is that they have the choice or the chance. That's life, I suppose, but it's no good when it happens. Hope you feel better about it with time / when you get your transplanted uterus.

I think I may be getting just a bit too good at palm strikes... Earlier today I halfheartedly flicked one wrist against the other palm (and 'missed' by doing so a good degree too early). It felt about as bad as it sounds... For about a second. After which I spontaneously lost all sensation in said palm for several minutes. @_@

On a related note, I know what I'd call myself if I were a superhero/supervillain/what-have-you; The Human Taser.

Hello everyone.

On what I'm pretty sure is sort of the topic of discussion, I think Kinomoto Sakura (Cardcaptor Sakura) and Takatsuki Yayoi (Idolm@ster) just need to meet and do cute things and sports and snuggle together until either the universe or my brain explodes. As a random aside, I have a question born out of today's morning routine.

Has anyone else had the experience of looking into a mirror, and seeing the same figure that you see every day, who you recognize less and less from your mental image of yourself the more you look at it, but then you turn a specific way, or look from a specific angle, and you catch the barest glimpse of that ideal, but when you stop to take it in, or move even the slightest bit, she's [or he's] gone and the usual mask has fallen back into place?

Ye gods, that felt pretentious, but it's the only real way I can describe it.
