I agree, I am baffled by this turn of phrase. It is literally the opposite meaning, leaving the listener to understand, contextualise, and reverse, for the sake of like a split second.

The trouble is that people always put the wrong emphasis. I've always used it "I could care less," to imply that while it's possible it would be hard.

It's essentially meaningless. If you could care less, you have to care at least some amount, and that amount can be anything from a small amount to a very large amount. No amount of emphasis changes that.

I don't care whether you prefer your tea hot or cold (e.g. iced). I don't care whether you like bacon or not. I don't care whether you have a mohawk, a mullet, or some other random hairstyle. I don't know you well enough to care, I would care if I was inviting you and your friends around for dinner (what to serve, who to expect at the door, etc.) but I'm not about to do that when you're... wherever you are.

Perhaps that phrase is meant to highlight just how little the speaker cares by illustrating their lack of concern for understanding just how little they care? But would they really put so much thought into it if that were the case... >.>

The avatar is actually one I haven't used in a while. I'll probably get a new one for her at some point, or make my own (Unlikely with my current laptop) but I'm using her for now since she just seems to fit.

One of my old classmates from my school previous was from England, and how little he knew of America (and how little I knew of England) was apparent to the point of absurdity. Thus, I couldn't care less about England (I would if it got me something like, say, a better grade, or a lovely meal).

I like England... Or at least, I think I do. I don't know much about it after the 40's (or during, or, admittedly, before). >.>

I think it rates pretty low on my priorities of things to learn about, though, so I ironically couldn't care less anyway. :P

That sounds awful and miserable. I hope things get better for you soon. Post as much or as little as you want and need, but I really enjoyed reading just about everything you have to say. That and I don't think I'd be resilient enough to be only "thoroughly shaken" after something like that, since I'd be an inconsolable mess at that point. So you're impressive, at least to me.

Because we all know what it's like to be left alone. To have people important to us turn away because of a specific piece of us. We can sympathize and empathize, so we now how much you need someone, anyone to be there. Sometimes we get more than our fair share of sorrow, so we can get even more out of pure joy when we find it. Don't give up hope, one day everything will turn out alright, and whenever you feel sad, you will have a group of smiles waiting for you, and several arms taking turns around your shoulders. And everything will be happy. You will be happy after all the suffering that was necessary.

I think it is good that you are in dorms and away, even if the dysphoria is overwhelming. What supernerd wrote earlier is so very true: You are not alone in the world, even if you feel it. I like to envision thin silver strings spinning out from the center of my chest and chasing across the globe to the unmet, untouchable people I hold dear. For we have met, and we do touch upon each other's lives, even if it only the gentle brush of a word and not the strong arms I wish I could hold you with physically.

But sometimes there is a need for understanding closer to home. Do you think there is maybe a school/college counsellor you could go to regarding your family problems? I don't remember how out you are to The System, but even if you don't feel ready to talk about your dysphoria, it might be good to get some of your family issues off your chest.

There's is counseling at uni, and I've brought up my parents with my therapist already though that was mostly with regards to how they'd react about me being trans.

Many Americans seem to not be aware of their own culture. Or even that culture exists. Despite the prevalence of cellphones, Internet chàt and such, our harried and hurried take on life precludes double checking. I've been taken to task for misspelling a "tex message" and not knowing how to "ax sumthing". And have been told that this isn't 2010 anymore, it's a new decade and the old ways don't work so don't snitch on people.

And education wide we are pretty deplorable, because we don't acknowledge how bery little we know! I was 8 before it sank in that Alaska and Hawaii don't have their own little boxes; Alaska actually connects somewhere! Etc.

I've an Australian friend who says Australia doesn't have a unique cultural identity, do they bum America's. That makes me sad.

It's passed along that way. Someone mishears it and says it like that, and mental inertia keep it that way. I've a friend who says "for all pretenses and purposes", and knows its supposed to be "intents" but can't help it.

Self referencing to make sure you're saying what uou think you are is very rare.

psh. Let them try. Those things are hard enough at a urinal! Sitting in a stall, you've got to hope they have a cost hook and they usually don't, so you need to sling it, bundled, under the armpit and over the forearm, and try not to dangle it on the floor, and also lift your skirt or unhitch your britches, and really you should just leave the cape st the entrance if they have someone to take them for you.

Unavailable. Once I determined that I posted "Give me this workaround or Mystic Muse" and the mods decided Mystic Muse would be the better option. I'm kinda glad they went with that since, being my OC, I control her development as opposed to Hasbo controlling Fluttershy's, and I haven't liked some stuff they've done with Fluttershy.
