Stealth Poster?

I stumbled across something I've never seen before.

A new Playgrounder named Rothgar posted in the main OotS thread, but has no user title. I clicked on his profile, and it says he has 0 posts.

I thought at 0 posts you were a Ghost in the Playground (something fairly common in the Play-by-Post forums, or so I'm told. I PbP over at RPoL.net...)

I mentioned this, and someone posted below me that there was no Rothgar on the page!

His is/was post 197 on the OotS 848 strip.

Board glitch, or?

I visited the thread, and I can see his post too. According to his profile page, he has 0 posts. Then I clicked on find all posts by this user, and it showed me that one. Schrodinger's post?

I guess it was one of those self-solving bugs.

Meh, close thread? Don't know if this helps Rawhide chase down problems in the servers or not.

I believe it is another variant on the "Post shows up on reply, but not when viewing the thread normally and it doesn't update the board" bug.

I doubt it, since Surfing Half-Orc and I can both see it normally, and it's not the latest post.

But it might have been the latest post at one point and not have updated everything properly. In any case, it seems to have resolved itself.

I'd guess that this is some variation of posting through an error message, because in my experience when a 500 error or a 503 error happens during posting (but the post manages to go through anyway) the server doesn't always manage to update subscriptions, and I'd be willing to bet that sometimes it doesn't update post counts all the time under those circumstances.

OK, Now I'm the Stealth Poster. I posted a new thread in the Gaming (Other) forum, and I can't see it. I tried to click "Reply," but no luck.

My thread is titled: "Free MMOs! Ones you Like, Ones you Hate, and Quirks... "

I can't see the first post, and when I click "Reply" it says "No Thread specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator."

I'll assume it will show up in a bit, and people will be able to post to it, but I wanted to see if anybody has any suggestions.

I want to say that this the same known issue, where the server doesn't register the post in one of the places it's supposed to, and since it's the first post it does what it's doing now. Not too sure what the solution is in this case, as no-one can look at the post via the reply trick. You might need to remake the thread, but I'd say wait for a mod to post before you do that.

Almost 24 hours later, the original thread is still not working. I posted a new thread with a similar name, this time it went through. I guess Rawhide or Roland can delete the first thread at their leisure.

Yeah, if the first post of a thread stuffs up, it's pretty much gone. Post a new one and and PM me with a link to the failed one.
