Re: Kingmaker: Here Comes the Cavalry! (IC)
ALL BUT MAPLE
You wake to a nightmarish sight.
Silhouetted above the camp, descending on high from the slope you descended before setting up to rest, is a centipede that's at least eighty feet long and as wide around as an old oak tree. As the yelling and shouting starts, and the horses start screaming and bucking, the thing abandons whatever stealth it has, and charges down the slope, its hundred legs pumping in eerie rhythm, pounding the ground and shaking chunks of rock down upon you.
It has not reached you, but it will in a matter of seconds.
The kobolds wake instantly, and roll out from under the hide tent they were sleeping in. "ORMAZOG! ORMAZOG MIIT DAYUS KULL NATHRA!!!"
DRACONICSpoilerThe God-bug! The Mite-God-bug shall accelerate our inhumation!
Brin manages to grab her bow, as the rest of you (save Maple) crawl from your bedrolls and tents...

Alistar
A dream.
Spoiler
On all fours, running through the woods.
Can't let it catch me, have to run.
Howling in the distance. Kin? Not kin, run.
Have to escape it, escape the: curse, disease, plague.
Dragon.
Run.
Alistar awakes to the sound of shouting, and manages to get up and have his swords drawn before he's even completely awake. "Wazzat? What's goin' on?" And then he looks up the slope and sees the giant bug. "Oh..."
Spoiler
Move action to stand, move action to draw weapons. Since he wears light armor, he can wear it while he sleeps just fine.

Fael does not bother to look at the thing that Brin is indicating, knowing whatever it is was most likely big and nasty. She instead runs to the kobolds to defend them, pulling her crossbow in the process.

Re: Kingmaker: Here Comes the Cavalry! (IC)
Fermor leaps up, and realizes just how dire the situation is. The towering monstrosity and the unprotected surprise of the camp told him that this was a tactician's worst nightmare: an ambush. The thing had skill, or some sort of smarts, to be sure. It had walked upon them from above, and had all the advantages... he didn't even have his armor on. The dwarf cursed darkly under his breath as he threw off a quick dweomer, grabbed his shield and axe, and stood ready to meet the beast.

Re: Kingmaker: Here Comes the Cavalry! (IC)
The thing charges, moving WAY faster than anything that large ever should! Brin puts arrows in it but the smoke doesn't seem to slow it down as it surges forward and towers over the archer. Still, it bleeds from where the arrows hit...
The mandibles dart down toward Brin... And MISS! Green ichor splatters from its jaws as she rolls away, and one of the tents is collapsed as its bulk whips around to coil beneath it.
It's got some sort of spiked tail, too, now that the rear end of the thing is in view.
Maple wakes up and sees the horror as Apples rears and bucks back with the other horses.
The kobolds scramble back a bit and pull out javelins!

Fermor grunts. "Flank it, flank it! Move to the sides, so it can't figure out who to attack!" Just like hunting a polar bear... a giant, 40-foot long polar bear with poison and a spiked tail. Leaping to the side of it, opposite Brin, he raises his axe once, and hacks away at the massive centipede.

Re: Kingmaker: Here Comes the Cavalry! (IC)
Brin sinks another arrow into the creature while Fermor scrambles around it! Drawn by the motion, the creature snaps at the little scurrying thing that's easily within its reach! It connects, ripping a hunk of flesh from the dwarf and smearing him with green venom...
FERMOR
Spoiler15 points of damage, and give me a fortitude save, DC 17. Fail, and take (1d4+1)[4] dexterity damage.
Fae'l tries to get the wand she liberated to work, but is unsuccessful...
Roqoan, on the other hand, is able to line up a shot with the lightning wand! The thing dodges nimbly, but is still scorched by the blast. Maple arms herself, and Alistar charges in! Sadly, his sword JUST misses the vital flesh he was aiming for, and rebounds off thick chitin.
The creature, faced with a myriad of tormentors, decides to go for the one that keeps poking it with little sticks. Brin dives for cover as it crashes down towards her... The jaws miss, but the tail catches her with a massive slap as it suddenly whips around! She flies back 10 feet, and hits the ground hard.
BRINSpoiler8 points of damage and you are knocked prone!
The kobolds shakily throw their javelins at it... They don't strike the thing, as fear is seriously throwing their aim off. But at least they don't hit YOU, either.

ROQOAN
SpoilerTurns out that giant bugs don't have pockets. Nor does the stomach area seem large enough to be worth searching, given the amount of goo you'd get all over you to do so.
The rest of the trip is much less exciting, though it is a little more nerve-wracking once you leave the hills. Moving through the woods at night, hearing animals shift away from you, and watching the moon crawl through the trees... It is beautiful, wild, and untamed. And DANGEROUS.
The moonradish patch yields two bushels of fist-sized white roots, and the biggest challenge in extracting them is keeping your horses from devouring them all.
And shortly before midnight on the second evening of traveling, you see the torches of the trading post in the distance. The gate is shut as you ride up, and the guard on duty squints your way into the night. "Halt! Who goes there?"
Upon recognizing your voices, he lets you in. He is visibly surprised once the four pack-laden kobolds scurry in behind you, and looks to you for explanation...
