    Fae'l gave a half smile to the halfling. It was nice to be believed in, but she believed in something too, her curse. Would her curse cause the roots to wither and break even if she tried, or a rope to snap. she had to be cautious. She waved back to Maple. "I'm going to hide back here and cover you from anything this way, or stop whatever's in there's escape, don't worry." She knew from her days as a urchin that she was a good hider, now older it was time to hide again.

    Maple opens the door and strides in, and IMMEDIATELY an oversized boot slams into her chest, sending her reeling, back to the edge of the pit!

    Reflex save, DC 17 please! Succeed and stand your ground. Fail and fall 40 feet into corpses, taking (2d6)[4] damage, and then you'll have to make a fortitude DC 10 save or be nauseated for (1d4)[4] rounds.


    As the large creature that kicked her chuckles and starts forward, it notices the other people on the ledge. With a bubbling growl, it hunches back and limps back further into the room, to stand next to another of its kind.

    The room is large, ten feet to the ceiling, and wide. A portable altar stands in the center, with a few black candles shedding smoky illumination. A few torture implements lie next to a burning brazier. Another ramp stretches out of the back of the room, and winds into darkness.

    The creatures standing against you are large, and wearing black robes. One bears some sort of catch-pole-staff-thing, the other is unarmed at the minute. Their hands are twisted, and have way too many fingers, some of them looking quite useless. What can be seen of their faces resembles a rubbery, half-melted deformed mess.

    One of them glares at you with mismatched, misplaced eyes.

    These are probably Thawns. Mud giants. Weak, deformed cousins of hill giants who specialize in stealth and ambushes. Mostly bluster, but can be painful if cornered.

    Aside from the last word, which sounded somewhat like 'Asmodeus', Lux had no genuine idea what the massive creature was saying. But from the mere gesture it'd given Maple ... she didn't need to it seemed. Now the main question was whether Maple could keep her footing or not. This place didn't seem to be the friendliest with casters, giving they had almost lost Roqoan earlier. Her ankles tensed as she got ready to dart to Maple should she need aid. If I do and it works though, this'll be a new record. Two lives saved in one day ... who'd have thought ... Keeping her muscles tensed and eyes upon Maple to gauge if she would need to rush over or not, her ears remained alert for the giant to ensure he didn't make anymore abrupt moves.

    I'm assuming I'll need to move more than 5 feet to engage these guys, so I'm only going to roll the Longsword attacks.

    Also, re-reading the Two-Weapon Fighting rules, it sounds like you only take the penalties for TWF if you're actually using those attacks, so a standard attack for one weapon, even with another weapon in the offhand, wouldn't give you the penalty. I'm going to roll assuming that's correct, if I'm wrong give it a -2.

    EDIT: Relooked at how Power Attack works here [gods I wish systems wouldn't change the same moves so much]. Anyways though, apparently it should be -2/+4 so the rolls should be ....

    Alistar grows once more, but the robed figures don't seem intimidated!

    The one in the lead is sent back a few steps as the giant wolf man slams into him, sword carving deep into his rubbery hide. Annoyed, he reaches for a hot poker and SLAMS it through the ranger's chest!

    It has no room to follow up on its attack, as Lux immediately charges it, and it's forced to duck under Brin's arrow.

    Maple's slingstaff, however, manages to finish the job, as a blow to the head knocks the thing to its knees, then shuddering, to the floor. It's probably not dead, but it ain't getting back up anytime soon.

    The other one jabs its mancatcher at Lux! The barbed tines tear at her, and she's stuck where she is, caught between the spokes of the cruel weapon!

    Brin slows her breathing and uses her focus to channel her inner energy, slowly down her surroundings she draws an arrow in a quick fluid motion she fires it but quickly retrieves another arrow, then another until her focus breaks and time flows normally again.

Keeping her sanity and stomach in check she approaches Alistair and gently touches him on his hip "Well, done, you should seeking some healing, you have had a rough day today... I will check out the room in case anything else pops up, lit up your pipe and have a beer it will do you some good."

    Alistar stands, staring at the mangled corpse of the creature, now pinned to the wall by arrows. The poker is still sticking out of his chest, but he stands nearly motionless. That is, until Brin touches him.

    He whirls around, teeth bared and snarling. For a moment, he towers over the dwarf with a growl rumbling in his throat. But just for a moment. Then the growling stops, and the snarl is replaced by a look of confusion. He stumbles back against the wall, panting and wheezing.

    Shuddering and panting as she got dropped, she looked down amongst any barbs that may still be in her skin. Biting down on her lower lip, she let out muffled winces as she began pulling any still in out - one by one. A slightly shaky hand went to her belt pouch. Damn .. as I thought. Down to one ..... Putting her last potion away for now, she nodded at the idea of rest. "Rest .... definitely sounds good at one point in time or another. Preferably sooner than later. I do think most of those whom can heal have used up most - if not all - of their uses for the day, correct?" Healing, unfortunately, was not one of her fortes. Otherwise she'd try to help out in that department. Thinking about Maple's words and assuming that for now, there truly was nothing more to worry about, she put her greataxe upon her back. Stumbling towards the wall, she used a vine to keep herself standing. She'd taken beatings before, yes. This many at once? Nope, definitely not. But she would admit one thing to herself; it was finally nice to have a bit of a challenge.

    There are torture instruments here, so they probably weren't doing anything good.

    And i would also love to leave this place behind us and get some well deserved rest. But these caves still go a little further. If there's still something back there and we leave now, we may undo all the work we've already done.
    So why don't we drag out the bodies of those two things and rest here for the night. We can heal our wounds and once we've all slept a bit we can move further in these caves.
    Somebody will need to keep watch and we need to find a way to get Fae'l here, but we'll all feel a bit better."

    Brin listens to Roqoan's suggestion and nods, wordlessly she begins removing the arrows holding the creature to the wall. When it slumps down before her she begins dragging it out, gently asking anyone in the way to kindly move, then with a grunt Brin shoves it into the pit. She goes back and repeats her actions for the second one and when she is done she straightens, breathing slightly quickened "Everyone inside, I can take first watch, I am mostly unharmed and I can see in the dark better than all of you. Fael, I suggest you find some room to lock yourself in or climb down into the pit and we pull you up. I have a length of rope in my pack that we can pull you up with but if you do so I suggest finding something to cover you mouth or wounds with so you don't get an infection."

    Now that you've time to look around, you can take stock of this room pretty easily.

    The portable altar is heavy, dark, wood. It bears a pentacle, and the surface of it is stained with old blood. A curvy, evil-looking dagger rests on it. It looks to be masterworked, for what it's worth. A few obscene-looking runes twist and carve over the stone.

    There are a few scattered bits of torturer equipment here, some of them cobbled together from farm tools.

    In an alcove, a small camp cot rests, with a few armor-repair tools stacked neatly on a shelf dug into the dirt wall. A battered footlocker rests by the cot. Dwarven runes are burned into it.

    Odd dialect on the runes, probably duergar. They basically say "This belongs to Vargan Stonegrinder."


    There's also a sort of portable rope and pulley contraption off in one corner. Looks bulky and awkward to use. Probably sized to the Thawns, as their giant frames could handle it the best.

    As best you can figure, this looks like a combination lasso and winch used to haul zombies out of the pit. The rope is about the right length, and the mechanism can probably handle their weight.

    Hm, it'd make it easy to haul Fa'el out of the pit.

    Brin goes back inside whilst looking around and notices the secret drawer... her keen eyes and instinct detect something but she has no idea of what it could be so she leaves it for when they bring Fa'el over. Her eyes do catch the dwarven inscription, which she quickly reads "Hey everyone... I found the footlocker of the last Lieutenant, can we get Fael here to look at it."

    Alistar continues to lean against the wall and try to collect himself. Okay, nobody noticed...probably for the best. With a grunt that turns into a muted scream, he yanks the poker out of his chest and tosses it to the side. Not dead yet, so it must not have hit anything important.

    A moment later the Enlarge spell begins to wear off, and as he shrinks he lets himself slump to the ground. He hears some of the others talking about taking some time to rest and mumbles, "Yah, rest. That sounds good, but first I gotta.." His features begins to warp and change once again, until eventually he has become human. As soon as he does, however, he slips into unconsciousness...

    Leaving his hybrid form makes him lose enough hit points to fall into the negatives. Not sure if that would mean he would be dying or stable, but assuming he's dying, stability at -5.

    Brin turns around as she hears something slump to the ground, as she turns she notices Alistair unconcious and bleeding. Panicking she moves over to him and attempts first aid with whatever she has on hand even if she has to tear at her clothes to make bandages.

    "I took a look at this rope and pulley thing here in the hopes that it could help us. At first i didn't quite get it, but with Brins help i figured it out.
    We can get Fae'l here that way, i'll go shout over the pit."

    He quickly walks over to the pit: "Fae'l, it's safe here. If you can get down in the pit we can pull you up with a pulley system. We need you here to help us out."
    He hears a thump, turns around and sees that Alistar has passed out.
    "Crap. Fae'l, hurry up! Alistar may be dying from his wounds, we need you and that wand you have that cures wounds."

    Roqoan quickly rushes over to Alistar. He takes the healing kit they found earlier. But Brin beat him to it and it seems she's great at taking care of people.
    He kneels down, puts his hand on Brins shoulder and asks: "How is he doing?"

    Brin keeps her eyes on Alistar, focusing intently on treating the wound on his chest she rips off a strip of cloth from her sleeve revealing a scarred but rather toned arm "He will live but I doubt he will be a happy camper when he wakes up, focus on getting Fael over here, don't worry I got this covered."
