Re: Skyrim V: Skyrim
The team lead is a real jerk, doesn't know anything about managing people, and doesn't know
much about modding.
The questcoder/scripter has no idea what he is doing and is making a big mess.
The voice actor doesn't have a good voice and doesn't know how to act.
The dungeon-builder is a lazy good-for-nothing who has submitted very little work so far.
I want to say that part of the reason we don't have a "Destroy the Thieves' Guild!" quest is because of Maven, really. She's so darned integral (becoming jarl, etc.) that you've got to mess with a bunch of code to avoid breaking things.
Can't remember if I actually read that somewhere or if it's my own speculation, though. In any case, freaking Maven.

Re: Skyrim V: Skyrim
I've heard Black Marsh used, but for the life of me I could swear I heard someone also use the term Argonia. Perhaps it's like Germany / Deutschland, the natives refer to their country as something other than what foreigners do?
I'd really like to see their homeland anyway, and I do think that an Argonian-focused game is the best step for Skyrim, story wise. But then again, we saw no shortage of swamps in Morrowind and Oblivion (especially Shivering Isles), so if Bethesda wanted something different, the deserts of Elseweyr would be pretty awesome.
And then again, now I think of it... with the return of Dragons, the mountain ranges have become a damn sight more dangerous to live in a wooden stronghold. Sucks to be an Orc. Perhaps a race of great smiths and miners would shift their strongholds into subterranian cities beneath Orsinium in order to be safe from the Dragons... though that might then leave them vulnerable to the encroaching Falmer?
So much to think about! I still want to see Black Marsh / Argonia most, but Elseweyr would give great visuals and Orsinium has so many directions you could take it....but of course that's just my opinion.

Re: Skyrim V: Skyrim
Oh, really? My mistake then. Regardless, my point stands: Maven wins, no matter what.
I even tried sneaking into her house and killing her in her sleep; but had to reload when I realized she was immortal.
Same problem when I discovered the Thieves' Guild hideout. I transformed into a werewolf and went to town...but after about ten very futile minutes, realized I wasn't getting anywhere.

I figure it's because the Thieves Guild is one massive Daedric Quest.

Re: Skyrim V: Skyrim
I had assumed that it had something to do with the Thieves' Guild being a morally neutral entity, as opposed the Dark Brotherhood, which is pretty evil. I mean, we don't see quests destroying the Companions or the College of Winterhold, and these groups arguably have more outspoken enemies than the Thieves' Guild.

Re: Skyrim V: Skyrim
Well, there's always another angle to consider - you don't really need to destroy the Thieves' Guild, do you? It's already destroying itself quite efficiently. It's gone from a criminal organization that spanned the Empire to a single dank hole in a Riften sewer. The Grey Cowl has vanished. The Skeleton Key has been stolen. The Nightingales are one-thirds dead, one-thirds exiled, and one-thirds traitor. The members of the Guild don't even know who Nocturnal is. The townspeople living above the last remaining Guild stronghold crack jokes about the Guild and openly refuse to pay a few gold coins of protection money.
And in the words of Delvin Mallory, "somethin' out there is piss-drunk mad at us."SpoilerMercer is a matter of months away from draining the last of the Guild Coffers and running away, leaving everyone in the lurch.
Considering all of that... if you choose to do nothing and let the Guild go on its current path, how long until it just implodes and collapses from within? Twelve months if we're generous? And if it did, make no mistake, it would destroy the Thieves' Guild utterly. The remaining Nightingales would be unable to restore it without Nocturnal's favour, the other Guild members would have no idea where to start, and Nocturnal's Shrine is impenetrable to anyone not wielding the Key.
When you wipe out the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary, it may be satisfying, but don't forget:SpoilerCicero and the Night Mother escape the carnage. They will go on, they will rebuild, and the Dark Brotherhood will return to its former strength.
Simply choosing not to join the Thieves' Guild may be a less satisfying course of action, but think about it this way - by not joining, by not saving them, you are guaranteeing that the Thieves' Guild will be permanently and completely wiped out. Not as much fun to achieve, but definitely more satisfying an ending if that's what you like.Last edited by Tergon; 2012-05-27 at 06:40 PM.

Re: Skyrim V: Skyrim
SpoilerIf Cicero wasn't marked essential, you'd have a chance to kill him here. Uncertain if the Night Mother can do anything herself as a corpse in a box. Wouldn't be overly surprised either way.
And then only the real assassins guild would be left. The Morag Tong. Hits you with an axe, tells the guards it was legal. Best assassins.

Re: Skyrim V: Skyrim
We don't know what becomes of the Morag Tong, true. But considering that the Argonians have the tradition of Shadowscales, a government-approved Guild of Assassins wouldn't exactly horrify them. They may have allowed the Morag Tong to continue after capturing Morrowind. Since it's implied in Skyrim that Shadowscales are no longer trained to join the Dark Brotherhood, perhaps the tradition has changed and the Argonian assassins end up working beside the Dunmer.
Also, I realise I forgot one thing about the fall of the Dark Brotherhood:
SpoilerBabette. I'm sure that her being absent during your destruction of the Sanctuary is more a case of the designers not wanting you to kill a child (even an immortal one far older than you). But story-wise... Babette was one of Sanctuary members who was actually open to the Night Mother's return. If she was absent during the slaughter, she survived it. And she'd most likely meet up with Cicero if they were both exploring the Sanctuary's destruction. And since she's immortal, she might take on the role of Keeper when he grows to old to do so.
Cicero and the Night Mother alone are in a tight spot, but add in a highly-intelligent immortal ally, even one in a child's body, and the thought of the Dark Brotherhood surviving the events of Skyrim is suddenly much more plausible.
Maybe if the Elder Scrolls VI centers on the Argonians, that'd be a part of the Dark Brotherhood's storyline. Rebuilding the shattered remnants of the Brotherhood as directed by the last immortal keeper, and reforge the traditions of the Shadowscale. Even if you didn't wipe out the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary in Skyrim, it could be handwaved by saying that the collapse occured in the intervening years, while still remaining true to those who did perform the purge....but of course that's just my opinion.

Re: Skyrim V: Skyrim
So I tried the Horse Combat patch, but it didn't work for me for some reason. I tried turning off some mods, but it still didn't work. I'll keep playing with it.
Either way, it was still freaking epic:

The Elder Scrolls Online Previews
We still don't know a lot about The Elder Scrolls Online so I'd imagine you'd be interested in reading a couple of articles on the title.
PC Gamer is offering an overview that aims to provide "everything you need to know" about the MMO:
Game Informer have revealed that The Elder Scrolls Online will be third-person with action bar combat. As such, it differs substantially from the recent games in the series.
You’re limited to a certain number of skills at any given time, a system that sounds similar to Diablo 3 or Guild Wars 2 – both promising models. Zenimax Online’s focus is reportedly to make each ability important and fun to use in its own right.
Also similar to Guild Wars 2, it’ll be possible for players to casually group simply by pitching in and helping each other in the wild – you won’t need to ask for an invite to get kill credit.
Despite the MMO trappings, familiar elements from the single player Elder Scrolls games will be present. These include guilds, including the Mages Guild, and birthsigns. Skyrim allows players to switch birthsigns on the fly, and we don’t yet know whether The Elder Scrolls Online will go with this system or opt for the previous, chosen-at-character-creation model for assigning bonuses.
"When you think back to the fun MMOG moments in the first generation, it’s standing there, terrified, in an enclosed space, waiting for someone to come along and save you. We can’t do that punitive gameplay that they did in those days, but we can put people together in places where they want to work with others.”
Public dungeons are crucial to one of The Elder Scrolls Online’s central ambitions for socialising: to see players meeting each other in the game world rather than the interfaces. “They’re basically a space that’s designed for people who are not grouped together to go into to fight," Firor says. "It’s a great place for people to connect with other players and they’re very important to us, although we still have instanced private dungeons and end-game raid dungeons for groups of up to six players too.Last edited by VanBuren; 2012-05-28 at 03:32 PM.

Re: Skyrim V: Skyrim
O_o
They... they think hiding in a dungeon, wondering if the PK's outside had gotten bored and left yet (because there wasn't going to be a rescue, and everyone including the PK's knew it)... was a good thing? Something they *wish* they could emulate?
I'm done with any interest in the MMO unless I hear that not merely recanted, but fully repudiated, then I played UO during the "bad old days" and I've no desire to go through that again. I simply cannot trust the judgement of someone that could believe that to do anything right in a game.

In other news, I'm eager to see if the underwater glare issue really is fixed this time.Last edited by TheEmerged; 2012-05-29 at 08:04 AM.

Re: Skyrim V: Skyrim
I was wondering where the Skyrim-specific vampiric bloodline had gone. I guess the ones we had been fighting were Cyrodiilic ones who had crossed the border.
I love vampire hunting; I wonder if a choice to side with hunters or vampires will emerge, similar to how Bloodmoon worked.

Re: Skyrim V: Skyrim
Considering Omninous Sound Vampire Guy says in the trailer if you want to be a vampire or if "you're one of them" it's probably safe to assume the choice will be there.

Yes! I liked everything I saw in there! Do we know what (If any) changes Vampires will be getting? Don't like them now(Or last I played with one. When it came out). And in that vein, are they still 'terrible'.

Re: Skyrim V: Skyrim
That trailer does look pretty dang awesome, but after reading more, I'm actually a little upset.
The expansion is releasing as an Xbox 360 exclusive, with no release date at all for PC, at least not that I've found. That's quite frustrating. I own Skyrim for both Xbox and PC, but I vastly prefer PC because of all the fantastic mods out there. It bugs me that I'm going to have to waitTyger Tyger, burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye,
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

Re: Skyrim V: Skyrim
Possibly the 360 exclusivity for the starting period is a sort of apology from Bethesda for not having any of the DLC available on the 360 for Oblivion. Now console users get a chance to have fun before the PC gamers do.
...but of course that's just my opinion.

Mounted combat is for the 1.6 patch. I see two interesting things. The vampire lord from the Game Jam, which is AWESOME. And a Dragon, diving beneath the ice. Which is even MORE awesome.

I wonder if Dawnguard vs Vampire will have moral ambiguity.
P.S- If you choose to side with vampire (Sun blotting out), then how would Skyrim end with Miracle of the West.Badly drawn helmet avatar drawn by me.
