The door opening of course made a loud sound, and the attention of such a loud voice made a rare smile on Mystletinn's face.

"Ah, it is Clive! It is a long time, no see! Welcome back." She said with a greeting from the counter. She hurried to the door to the Weapon Shop.

"Non! Clive is here!" She called. A soft young woman's voice can be heard to answer.

"Clive? Just a minute!" Was the answer of Non. "It has been a long time since we have seen you." Myst said with a smile. "Ah, I will get a drink for you. Please sit down." Myst disappeared with a happy step to the kitchen.

Non hurried to finish to polish the sword she had finished, and then put the gloves away and blacksmith apron. She tied the inn apron as she hurried into the empty (and Clive) bar. A warm smile appeared when she saw him.

"Oh my! It has been a long time Clive! How are you? Surely you must have had so many adventures!" Non sat down across from Clive as Mystletinn came from the kitchen with some glasses. Since the 4 years, of course Non had changed too. She had grown up. Her hair had grown longer, but her warm smile had not changed. With excited blue eyes, she maybe was tired, but it was [don't mind] spirit.

" I can't wait to hear them. Will you be staying for a while?"

There is a loud sound of breaking glass. To turn and see, Mystletinn is standing with shock and intense expression to stare only at the weapon of Clive. A broken pitcher of water can be seen on the ground, to make even Mystletinn's boots wet. But she doesn't notice. Even to destroy a poor pitcher who served faithfully, it isn't noticed by Mystletinn.

"Myst? What's wrong?" Non asked. There is no answer of Myst, Non looks at Clive and then at Myst. She stands up and comes to Myst.

"Myst? What's wrong? Myst? Myst!" The sharp eyes of Clive can see the tattoo on Myst's right hand is glowing a little, and to look at her sapphire eyes, they seem to burn a little. It is a little painful to look at Myst's eyes, but she is not looking at him. She is looking at a certain gun.

Hassar Wavecutter entering of course is an unusual appearance. But somehow, it doesn't seem to be such a surprise for Non, who was serving a now surprised fisherman.

"Oh my, it is very rare to have a Merrow customer! Actually, you are our first! Welcome to Bukiya Inn." Non said with a bow. She listens politely to the request of Hassar Wavecutter.
"Ah, Captain Kessia is-" But of course a sharp Kessia Harket has already suddenly arrived. Non makes a content smile and nod to Kessia Harket.

"Shall I bring a drink for you?" She asked politely.

Returning to get the drinks, she walks gracefully between the group of scared fishermen who exit with panic, but avoid Kessia and Hassar carefully and say "Excuse Me" politely.

"Oh my! It sounds like it is so dark. I-I would love to hear more about the monsters and this taint. Surely it is important to be known so there isn't another such tragedy! But I will promise to keep it secret for you. I won't write it down for two weeks. And I won't put your name with it, if you don't want." She says earnestly.

Maybe it is strange to say that, but for Non who can remember perfectly, it is no problem to write such a story since two weeks. She looks thoughtful.

"I will give you the complete discount, if you promise to tell me more tomorrow, or some everyday. So, it will be 10¥¥ for one day."

"A saddle would be impractical." Arabella flourished the words around with a reluctance that hinted at the fact this wasn't the first time she'd said it. "It'd be less stressful if you'd let me carry you..."

Soon after Hakuhale headed off into the docks, looking for a ship bearing a friendlier flag, a thin young man, with surprising quantity of brown hair, and a circular scar around his neck, stepped forward next to her, smiling broadly.

"Would you be looking for passage? We can't offer much besides room and board, and there is a better chance of the ship getting into a fight than on most vessels, but we can drop you off anywhere from here to Wayfarer's Point. And of course, the captain keeps all that in mind when she sets the prices - or, if you like, you can work for your keep. Might even earn a bit extra on the way, if you're good at the job and willing to actually do it."

She came to a complete halt and stared at the lad in bemusement. As he gave his pitch Hakuhale occasionally took quick glaces at her soundings, as if expecting some damn fool to try sapping her over the back of the head. When he finished, a long moment of silence passed between them.

    Hakuhale burst out laughing.

She threw a soft yet powerful arm around the lad's shoulders and said boisterously, "Sure I'll let ye crimp me! Just don't expect me to stay crimped once we reach Wayfarer's, aye? Now lets go see this captain of yours."

Word gets around we did something like that to a passenger, people'll stop riding with us, no matter that he deserved it. said the Captain.

Hakuhale seemed to ignore the question for a moment, examining one last line of the man's right palm with the intense focus of a jeweler studying a diamond. Then, nodding like a doctor who's finalized a diagnosis, she stood strait and moved away.

She whispered into Captain Harket's ear, "The world would be a finer place without him. He's done much the same before as he's done here. Marooning is the only thing for it I say, but as he aint crew, seems fair enough to put him down on something with some green on it so as he don't starve. If some damn fool wants him back in the world ye can give them a map sure as ye please. If'n he thinks that's too bad, I can offer him a 'Bargain'."

She indicated a deep scar on her own right hand to make the meaning clear.

With the rapier in hand he moved out into the floor and made a few complex sword maneuvers. “Perfection! How much for this one?” he turned toward Non and presented the sword hilt first toward her.

"My darling Myst! How I missed you!" the young man called Clive exclaimed as he saw the smiling face of the inn aide.

Running towards her with arms wide open, he tried to sneak in a hug over the counter, but barely missed her as she went to call on Non. The result was Clive losing his balance and hitting the counter top corner with his stomach.

Gasping from the blow, he coughed and grabbed his midsection, but was still smiling. In fact, his smile was wider now. "Ahh, just like old times."

    ....

    What's the matter?

...Did you say her name was Mystl?

    Yeah, why?

...Is it a nickname or something?

I dunno. That's what Non calls her. Why?

    ....

Oi, what is it? Something wrong?

He was about to ask again when he heard another familiar voice that distracted him, and with Myst letting him sit in one vacant table, offering him drinks and , he forgot to pursue the issue further.

As soon as Non emerged, Clive stood up and greeted her similar to how he did with Myst, and hoped this time he would be successful.

"My, my, my! Is that you, Non? Ain't you a sight? You're more beautiful than my most beautiful memory of you! Yeah, it's been what, four years? How've you been? You've surely grown..." He said while looking at Non's chest, then lifted his gaze towards her face again. "...up. You've really grown up, haven't you?" He said with a wide grin.

"I see business is good as always, yeah? Well, ya know, same old, tailing that guy anywhere his business took him. And yeah, I think I'd be staying here a while. I missed ya both, ya know?" He taked rapidly in excitement.

A crashing sound interrupted his outburst, and upon following the source, it appeared to be Myst dropping a glass pitcher on the floor. His first reaction was of jest.

"Hey, hey, are you jealous, Myst? It's okay, there's enough of me for both of you, ya know?" He said with a smirk.

But Myst did not reply. Clive immediately noticed her eyes seemed to burn fiercely and a curious glow came from the tattoo on her right hand. At the same time he could feel increasing warmth from his hip, where Peacemaker was.

Wha?! What's happening? Oi, what's goin' on, stupid gun?

    ....

Getting no reply from Peacemaker, he rushed to Myst's side. "Oi, Myst? Myst? What's wrong?"

He looked at the group that was now in his mind known as Blake's Bedfellows, wondering in particular who the elegantly dressed men were. They seemed....so out of place. Ah yes- one of them appeared to be the local Marquis; he recalled seeing some sort of gazette with his visage on it for some reason earlier. It wasn't a surprise to him that the town nobility was intwined with the sea-going corsairs.

Vasae perks up from his thoughts when the young lady appears, giving a slight bow to her for a moment. Not what he’d expect really, such a young looking thing running a restaurant in such a dangerous location though it was hard to tell just how old these humans were really. “Thank you Miss Non, I am Ambassador Vasae of the Elven Confederacy.” he murmurs softly, motioning to the tapestry. “Your...assistant...says you like stories? I will tell you one if you tell me about that tapestry?” He smiles, brushing some hair from his face.

Rising from the box was sitting, Old Nick headed for the boat. He waited for the first person to get out, took off his hat and respectfully saluted. then, smiling, he said:"Hello and Welcome to Wayfarer's Point, city of crime and adventure. I hope your sojourn will be perfect. Pardon the curiosity of an old, but may I ask why does a ship from Tirac as yours honor by his presence this den of iniquity?".
Tillik had tracked the human’s approach, silently adjusting his own route to place himself between the man and the ambassador when it became clear he intended to intercept them. The man’s bearing did not seem hostile or threatening, but the hunt-master had wanted their elven passenger escorted to his embassy (the meaning of that particular word still eluded Tillik, but he presumed it meant some sort of resting place…in the hive of a different people…which made no sense…), and that meant Tillik would take no risks with his safety. He does however wait for the ambassador to ask his questions and receive a reply before speaking to the man in question.

“This one acknowledges your welcome. The hunt-master commanded that this place be our destination, and so it was.”

Tillik pauses for a moment, attempting to match the actions of those around to the Way; perhaps a single representative was sent to challenge the enemy when their hive was entered?

“Are you of the soldier caste of this hive? This one is required to escort it‘s guest to his embassy and will meet you in battle if this is required by your Way.”

Ooc: excuse any typos or formatting errors. I am typing this from my cell.

Ic: Renato nodded as Lucien spoke. It all did make sense. There was no need for the pirates to take the fortification and no doubt it served as a nice front for for fencing goods and probably funding the floran war effort.

"I thank you." Renato takes the note and tucks it into a pocket. Rental let's out a polite laugh. "luckily I am not tasked with collecting the debt. I would be honored to join you at dinner. It has been too long since I had a meal on land."
Lucien nodded graciously. "It will be a small affair -- my cousins, as always, and eh... two of my friends just in to port. Your men are invited, of course, the table seats thirty," he added warmly.

By 'men', he meant the well mannered house guards and not the entire crew of his ship. Castle Greycourt was richly appointed, but small by continental standards. Not that Lucien minded the company of common sailors, but he did have a limited number of soldiers on his payroll and he and the castle were still recovering from his thirty first birthday party which had involved nearly everyone in Blake's crew.

"My servants," he continued through an unfaltering and toothy smile, "Disenfranchised young women from Florin, poor dears. In my sworn protection now. They are, of course, to be treated with all possible courtesy. Oh, I don't mean to impugn the honor of your men, Seignior, but the last man who laid a hand on one of my maids... well... I had it taxidermied and sent back to his father. I hear that, when the lad returned home, his father stuck him with it."

If he didn't look Floran, the man's sense of poetic justice was the perfect picture of his people's nobility. They were creatures of great subtlety... until you hurt something they loved. There was one tale in which a princess was abducted by a jilted suitor. Her betrothed and true love responded in consummate Floran fashion by not only razing the bastard's castle, but by immortalizing him with the construction of a monumental tomb made from its broken stone. The tomb still stood.

He chuckled darkly until he gasped as if he'd been pricked in the arm. "Boar!" he exclaimed, "Not swordfish. We'll have boar. Least I can do for a man after the journey from Latinum. Probably sick of fish!"

21st day of amber's fall, Morning

    Renato & Lucien

"Do not worry. My men are all men of honor."

Renato was taking quite a liking to the man. He was not a typical noble but then again one needed to be a different cut to prosper in such a wild and wanton territory as this one.

"Ah. Boar. One of my favorites. But, I really should be off now, my lordship. I still have business to attend to before tonight and as always business before pleasure."

Renato comes to his feet and bows as is proper etiquette from the waist. Alfonso and Giovanni quickly follow suit not wanting to be chastised again for their indifference to the nobleman. The trio quickly turn on their heels and head off to meet with the merchant Khasim.

21st day of amber's fall, Late Morning
    Streets of Wayfarer's Point

The streets were quickly filling up with pirates and party revelers with the arrival of Captain Blake's ship fast approaching. A few times on their way back to the docks Renato or his bodyguards had to push some irrelevant oaf out of the way. Blasted commoners should know better than to get in the path of a man of noble blood. If he was in Latium he would have the bastards flogged for their insolence in inhibiting his passage.

Back at the Fortune Amedeo was busy directing the loading of supplies into the hull of the ship. Renato was pleased to see his orders were followed to the letter. The Quartet was busy patrolling the deck with an observant man in the crow's and guarding the gangway were 2 broad men with pikes. No one would dare try to stow aboard his ship.

"Amedeo," he called "we need to visit a merchant. Get over here."

Amedeo quickly delegated his job to one of the ship's officer and in a flash was across the gangway to join with Renato and his guards. He was filled in on their course of action on the way to Khasim.

Coming to the man's shop they enter and see the old merchant. "Good sir, are you Khasim?" asked Renato. The man nodded. "Excellent. Your friend Lucien sent me. I have need of cannon...amongst other things," finished Renato as he handed Khasim the note.

    "aye, my lord."

Khasim led the Latians into the yard arrayed with cannons and other items too large to fit in the shop proper. "I have many cannons. Some must be good for your worshipfullness." Khasim smiled a disgusting toothless smile as he showed off his wares.

Renato found a trio of well-made Tirian cannons. "These 3, and 7 more of the same caliber and quality if you have them."

"Good choice! Good choice! Expensive but good! I can get more like it!"

"Not so fast. I would hate to be buying anything that might be stolen or damaged at market value. Amedeo, if you would."

Amedeo quickly went to inspect the cannons. He went into an elaborate ritual as if checking the bore quality, the metal's strength, but there was only one thing he needed to check and he knew exactly where it would be located. Ducking underneath the barrel he quickly found the mark he was looking for. He read the inscription "Produced by the Royal Tirac Foundry. Commissioned by and for the ship 'Sun chaser.' These cannons are stolen, Khasim. If we were to sale into a Tirian port and our ship was searched and these were found we would be hung, drawn and quartered for piracy. For such a risk I believe we should get a discount. For these 3 and the rest of the same quality."

Khasim's happy go lucky attitude quickly changed. These men, at least Amedeo was an experienced merchant and knew the value of such goods and what they would get for at fence. There would be no screwing the Latians over. A quick back in forth between Khasim and Amedeo began before a price was agreed upon.

"I will give you a down payment for these while you find the remaining ones. I should be back in a few weeks for the whole lot," interjected Renato after the negotiations were over, "and, I shall purchase a dozen of those rugs now." He really had no reason to purchase the rugs, but it would be good to stick to his cover story and they were cheap enough. He knew the people at Castra had no need to purchase them. He would most likely just ship them off as a gift to his father when a friendly ship docked in Wayfarer's.

With coins exchanged and a notice of receipt and down payment exchanged Renato, Amedeo and the guards were quickly on their way back to their ship and ready to prepare for the night's dinner.

21st day of amber's fall, Evening
    Castle Greycourt
As the esteemed guests of Lucien(Nefarion Xid)

Renato and his entourage arrived on time and promptly to the Castle. All were dressed in their finest as respect to the host for the feast he graciously invited them to.

As per custom a servant announced as they arrived. "His Lordship Renato Benso, Captain of the Guard for The most honorable and noble house of Benso, Knight and Patrician of Latium." Renato was dressed in the traditional noble style robes of a Latian. Today's color was a dark green with a long heavy cloak. The only sign that he was more than a mere Patrician was that he still kept his blade Winter's Edge strapped to his hip.

"His Lordship Amedeo Corsi, Lieutenant of the Guard for the most honorable and noble house of Benso, Patrician of Latium." Amedeo stuck with a more soldierly appearance favoring the short cape and riding clothes, though of a very high quality. It would be noticed that while not sharing the Benso name he was counted as a Patrician meaning that his uncle Pietro favored him. Citizenship and rank within the Republic was not a right by birth for most. The head of a house was allowed by law to pass citizenship down to only one person which was often reserved for the first born son. Any other child, or indeed anyone else the head of the house wanted to bestow with citizenship and rank had to be paid for. This was designed to prevent poor but virile households from exerting undue influence on the voting process. The fact that Corsi was a Patrician(and thus a full citizen) meant that the Doge had money to spend to keep his position within the Council secured and truly trusted the young man.

The servant quickly sounded off the names of the 6 other men in Benso's retinue all officers aboard his ship or officers of his small private army accompanying them on their voyage.

The port was alive as ships prepared to push off. Sails were raised, supplies loaded, and the occasional sound of cannon fire overwhelmed the port as ship after ship moved out. For the race was on. Ever since the Fanged Barnacle had limped into port two days ago the rumor had spread like wildfire. The Esmerelda; crown jewel of the Tirian Merchant fleet had been left crippled on the open waters after a fierce battle with the mighty Barnacle. And now every pirate who had ever fancied himself good with charts from that same ship was offering the location to the highest bidder. For the Esmerelda was no ordinary prize. That ship handled one of the longest and most profitable trade routes in the known world. There was enough on that boat for an entire crew to live off their lives in comfort.

    She looked at the tapestry.
"Of course, I would be happy to.

This tapestry is actually a fantasy story, called "Fall of Syraleat".

It's kind of a song, so I'll sing it for you.

    A long time ago,
in a certain kingdom named Syraleat
    there were four great towers,
    for four great sorcerer houses
and the people were happy and peaceful
in the wise rule of their lords

but one day it was that the crafters
and the sorcerers began to argue
    both wanted wealth greedily
and no longer worked for peace
    but instead for themselves

and at such a time, they desired
    the power of immortality
    to never die
and great tragedy of fire came
so the goddess harmony was killed
    and the goddess chaos wandered
to make a discord rhythm for eternity

Non stopped, a content smile returning to her face. "I'm not a very good singer." She said. [color="#008899"]"But the tapestry was a gift from a friend. It is part of a set, I think. This one shows the [civil war]. It's very dramatic, you can see the soldiers and sorcerers fighting. There's an [inside joke] of this painting with my friend. It is why to hang it over the fireplace.

She pours tea properly for Vasae, and then for herself.

"Is it your first time to come to Wayfarer's Point, Ambassador?" She asked.

A grin split along Blake's face as Lucien listed a fair portion of his cargo, drumming his fingers against the polished tabletop.

    "Impressive as always, Marquis."

As Mystletinn brought the first round of drink around, Blake downed his glass of rum with a joyful sigh. He slammed the glass down definitively, a hair away from breaking anything. Then he turned his golden eye to Lucien, followed by his true eye.

"But that was far from our only take, this voyage. Tirian gold and Latian silver and Elven silks have filled my hold to bursting, but there's something else I think you'll find more interesting."

Reaching into his jacket, Blake pulled forth a thick, leather dossier, emblazoned with the crest of the Elven Confederation.

"Diplomatic papers bound for the embassy here, safeguarded by a Revenant, of all things. It was blind luck our paths crossed in the open sea, but they didn't surrender. The only captains who don't surrender to my colors are fools, privateers, or men carrying something too valuable to lose."

He tapped his finger against the dossier.

"I believe these to be the latter, and I want them sold to the highest bidder. Of course, there's only one man in the Crossroad Isles with the respectability to attract the clientele who would buy these, so I'd like you to conduct the auction. We can discuss the details over dinner - your chef truly is a talented creature."

As Clive leaned over the collapsed Mystletinn, he felt a hand on his shoulder pulling him away. Whirling to face the owner of the hand, he came face to face with an eye of green and an eye of gold - Captain Blake. His breath smelled of spices and rum, yet his hand upon Clive's shoulder was steady, and his good eye was clear.

"It seems you've upset our dear waitress, sir. What have you to say for yourself?"

The situation of Myst of course was worrying to Non. For Non, this was the first time to see Myst act like this in a long time. Even that time was different, when Non became a Pledger, and when Non's old life and dreams were changed.

Clive stood up to help Myst too, clearly worried. But for Non, there was the next worry too. What was wrong with Mystletinn? What if something happened here?

"Myst!" She tried again to receive Mystletinn's attention, this time she grabbed Myst's hand.

"Mystletinn!" She whispered the full name of Mystletinn. Myst seemed to react a little, blinking a few times.

    "It's- Jenge xAe SCHEL.RING. J. L. R. TLFftQLOoBaCCjKKuVaAadM?"
She asked, her words became not understandable (except to a certain gun) when Clive stepped closer.

And then Captain Blake also stepped up to ask Clive.

Could this situation become any worse? Probably not. Well, maybe to embarrass Mystletinn. But something had to happen. Non had to act quickly.

So, she stepped on the edge of Mystletinn's dress, with a sad apologetic thought.

Sorry uniform. I'll sew you back together. Thanks for protecting Mystletinn.

At the same time, she grabbed Mystletinn from behind, like to support her from falling. But she let her hands move clumsily.

"Ah, Myst, you're heavy!" She stammered.

The reaction of Mystletinn was completely expected by Non, and completely disruptive too.

"Kyaa!" Was the reaction of Mystletinn, who moved to escape Non. A certain dress must choose the boot, and so there was a sound of [rip rip] as it became torn.

"Oh dear!" Non said, horrified, relieved, and trying not to laugh. And she quickly embraced Mystletinn to shield her.
"Gentlemen, please look away! Let's go Myst, quickly."
A very red faced Mystletinn has no words to describe this kind of situation. But makes a quick escape with Non to the kitchen.

And Non called back. "I'll be back with your drink, Clive!"

    [Kitchen]

"NON!" Mystletinn cried out when the door closed. This time it is Non who is blocking the door.

"Mystletinn, hear me." Non made a quiet order. To hear her full name, Mystletinn stopped, but still looked [distraught].

"Myst, change. I don't know what happened, we can talk later. But for now, we're safe." Non sighed. The pressure was smaller now. And to be relief, there was also laughter.

"I-It's not funny!" Myst said, trying to hold her dress together.

"Yes it is. Don't worry Myst. I just never imagined you would be a clumsy and straight-laced type. Some boys like this kind of character."

"I'm not clumsy! And I'm not straight-laced!" Myst replied while putting on the new dress.

"...And right in front of Clive and Captain Blake too." She moaned. Non laughed again and took out a new glass of water, and more rum.

    [Inn]

"I am very sorry for the trouble." Non apologized with a professional bow.
Non put water on the table, rum on another table, and began to clean the floor with a towel.

The rogue darted between the alleys and the streets. Taking care to try and watch out for any pirates which could be threats. Each step was silent as the night, and there was little chance of him being spotted. His companion on the other hand wasn't attuned to stealth at all.

She simply followed Amon, without care of where she tread nor how much noise she created.
"Are we truly returning to that inn?"
"Of course. I owe that maiden a tale."
Jamilia was frustrated, she knew that her aim should be to protect her clients regardless of their situtation, but this was ridiculous.

The streets were swimming with Blake's men, any of which could try and kill a stranger for money. A murder would be noticed less tonight so the assassin's could try and strike tonight. The sun has set so that the afflicted could hunt us with ease.

Tonight wasn't a good night. Yet annoyingly, Amon seemed in good spirits.

There was genuine concern in Clive's face. He could not understand what was happening to Myst. Upon quick inspection, he could not find anything wrong with the girl physically, save of course her unresponsiveness and the glowing tattoo on her right hand. She did not feel abnormally cold or hot to the touch as well.

    Then there was confusion.

Why was Myst looking at what seemed to be where Peacemaker was? And did Peacemaker seem to glow as well? And there was her odd behavior earlier, when they just saw Myst. So many questions and yet he could not connect them together to form the big picture. And he hated that.

    "It's- Jenge xAe SCHEL.RING. J. L. R. TLFftQLOoBaCCjKKuVaAadM?"

Myst's gibberish talk cut through his thoughts. And before he could even ask himself, or both Non and Myst for the meaning of that, a hand grabbed his shoulder and forcefully turned him around.

His first instinct was to grab a pistol inside his cloak, but luckily his eyes were faster than his shot this time, for he was now face to face with none other than the dreaded Pirate Lord of the West, Captain Ramsay Blake himself, his green eye and that rather infamous golden eye looking at him intently.

"Ah...ha ha ha! Upset? No, no, no! Well, ya know, I just have this effect on women. They just find me stunning. Ha ha ha! But of course nowhere near as you have on them, my Lord Captain Ramsay Blake, sir. Aha ha ha ha ha!" He tried to jest his way as he let go of his pistol and proceeded to pat the Captain on his shoulder like they had been close friends all along.

    "Kyaa!"

The scream from Myst and the subsequent sound of [rip rip] made Clive look instinctively at her direction. He almost knew what that sound was and what it meant, but again, luck was just not with him that day as Non's slender back was all he could see.

"Non, darling, do you need help with that?" he called out with a grin as the two made their way into the kitchen. Turning back to the Captain, he continued, "And now I see how vastly inferior I am to you in that department, sir. I have never had that effect on women before in my entire life," and burst into laughter.

    *****

Clive immediately stood up and approached Non as she reemerged bringing drinks.

"Hey, how's Myst? She okay?" He whispered with a forced smile.

Everybody will try to hurt you or worse if he think he can obtain something of it. And for you...", said he looking back at Tillik, suddenly deadly serious,"Tell your hunt-master, whoever he is, to hurry to go as far away of these waters as he can: this ship is nor a friend neither a foe for the rulers of this city, barely a prey..."

Vasae listens attentively to the young lady, nodding a little at the greeting though gives a nod in return as she goes into song. “Thank you for your warm welcome Miss Non. You have a beautiful singing voice.” He takes the cup of tea when it’s poured though waits for the young lady to take her first sip before drinking as well. “It is my first time outside of Elven Lands. The Confederacy does its best to keep it’s subjects happy so there is very little reason to leave for most of the citizenry. I as an Ambassador must of course leave but I find I like the adventure so far. I have not many humans...you are so varied. A shop owner and a blacksmith? I am but a simple diplomat, weapons are not my field of understanding nor is cooking in fact. Perhaps you could teach me?” He takes a long sip from his tea, looking over the young lady. To think that such humans with their short lives could do so many things. It was a wonder where they found the time at all. So much to learn still...this trip was well worth the danger.

Vasae nods a little at the greeting, frowning at the off hand threat though says nothing in return until addressed. “I am Ambassador Vasae yes though my business in these islands is not yet determined. I was sent so I obey the dictates of the Confederacy. However Master Andrew, I assure you that the Confederacy does not send out children to do their errands. I appreciate your warning however. As for Warrior Tillik and his Hunter-Masters ship...I suspect if they are not allies -or- enemies...it is not to terrible a place for them to be.” With a motion of his hand to the damaged ship he fixes the man with a stare. “Surely one damaged ship is so beneath the notice of the great Pirate Lords that they could stay in the harbor for as long as it takes for them to repair themselves? There is no crime for that I suspect? Or if there is a place as dangerous and lawless as you say, that a diplomat of the Elven Confederacy risks his life with danger certainly, with none of these Lords about and with cannons pointed at your docks I see no reason for them to be afraid either. But that is merely my assessment of the situation. If that is unwelcome, several gold will ease your dissatisfaction?” He takes out a few gold coins, handing them to the large man. “May the Teacher Arda watch over you. If you will excuse us? Warrior Tillik, follow this one.”

Seeing Myst out of the corner of his eye Jonathan grinned wider, and tossed her a small sack heavy with the sound of clinking metal.

"There you are my dear, that ought to cover any extra expenses I've built up. You know it's hard work cheating pirates out of their earnings. Well, not so much the cheating part but the running afterwards."

Not sure if he would be able to return to the Inn tonight, Jonathan had decided to seek out the few other friendly faces he knew of on this dreary old rock. The day had been quite uneventful from Jonathan's point of view, as he had spent most of it avoiding anyone who might recognize just how much money he was worth. And so he found himself at the gates of Castle Greycourt. He could only hope he continued to be more interesting to the Marquis than whatever amount of gold was stacked against him.

    Lucien About Town

The Marquis had left the Bukiya Inn after an atypically short engagement with Captain Blake. Still too early in the day for a respectable man to drink hard liquor, Lucien had enjoyed two sweet amber ales at the captain's courtesy, possibly out of contrition for having invited himself to dinner. Blake was surprisingly good company if you were the loosely wound sort and he had a roguish sense of honor to him that Lucien quite liked. It was the very reason there were friends, more than just drinking buddies and occasional business partners, friends. Trust is a foolish luxury among thieves, but when together, they lowered their guards just a little. More than a simply lucrative relationship, the two understood how it could be that gentle men might do evil and yet remain gentle men.

Of course, no one had accused the captain of being gentle in a very long time. Perhaps he wasn't. Perhaps the two only saw goodness in one another because they dearly wanted to. Though, truly, that is what friends are for.

Leaving the inn, Lucien's mind was occupied with Amon Din's newly acquired boots. He'd made his usual trick of clever analysis, but he always found it maddening when no one asked him how he'd managed! Details lodged themselves in his brain and he'd obsess over them, convinced, he'd missed something.

Amon Din's boots were Tirian, a particular style worn by naval officer and all from the same celebrated leather worker in Tir who famously stamped each of her products with a small wing symbol. The boots were also dirty, unpolished for a month or more and completely absent of blood. The captain hadn't fought, he'd fled. But the boots were on Din, so he'd clearly died as a prisoner and in a bloodless way, leaving only hanging. Din was an elf and 5'6", thus the captain must have been of similar height for the boots to fit.

Ah! That's what he'd missed! Lucien clenched his fists and shook his head in the street.

He'd taken the captain for a coward, but no, he'd made his escape to avoid the capture of what he carried. The documents from the Elven Confederacy were devastating in the wrong hands. Blake was the sort to let cowards flee normally. Cowards do a grand job of spreading your fearsome reputation and Blake was a man with a big ego already. He must have known the ship was carrying such documents!

The ship sank, of course. Blake was in a good mood after a plunder, but he was ecstatic after capturing a whole ship. Minotaurs don't swim. They aren't good at it and they don't like it. Khallra had gotten wet going aboard the doomed ship to haul out what he could. Good man... minotaur... whatever... but he stunk like wet dog and his fur was bristly on the lower half, crusty with dried salt. He'd had the smell of whiskey on his breath as well. That wasn't unusual, but Khallra drank Sylish schwarzbier by preference. Added to the fact that only Tir and Valand exported whiskey in any great amount, things pointed to Khallra rewarding himself for his heroism, and that gave Lucien a good guess as to what the ship had been carrying.

Having cleared his head, he made his way to Rachede Navarre's residence to personally invite her to dinner as well. Since Blake would be there, it would officially be a party. She and the young Benso might be interested to meet as well, and Lucien was delighted to see how the kid might handle himself around a woman of Rachede's caliber. Looks, brains and experience all came together for the perfect storm of a woman. She'd lived one hell of a life and Lucien thought she was just as striking now as in her youth. Not like wine, he thought, more like tequila. Wine doesn't strictly get better with age and it quickly spoils after it's been opened. Tequila only improves, never sours, and never loses its ability to knock you on your ass.

Of course, at this point in the afternoon, Lucien thought, "What's the harm in one more guest?"

When he'd arrived home, Lucien found the Duke making himself comfortable in his parlor and helping himself to a pinch of his tequila.

"No natural light in here, Lucien! Stuffy too! However do you manage to read in here?" was the first thing he'd said to Lucien when he discovered him in the parlor.

Without hesitation, he'd answered, "Assuredly, Your Grace's eyes will go unstrained," unconvinced that the man had ever held a book in his life.

"We were not expecting Your Grace until the summer... when your betrothed has come of age," Lucien interjected tersely before the Duke could find something else wrong with the castle.

"Seventeen, Lucien. Sixteen is the customary age in Valand. Besides, I want a son! A strapping boy, spitting image of his father! And I want it while I'm still young enough to show him how to be a proper man."

The thought of another like Edward Brant filled Lucien with dread. The man had a sickly complexion, a hook of a nose, wiry red hair and a frail build. His teeth looked as if they weren't on speaking terms with one another and he had a voice like a wooden chair being dragged over marble. Lucien would readily have excused the man his unfortunate looks if only he didn't have the personality and the brains of a turnip. Not even a particularly nice turnip either. Lucien would forgive him his looks and his simplicity were he at least tender and kind. The Duke was a spoiled bully.

Lucien tensed visibly. "Odette's education is not yet complete. Her tutors are here. Do you want a refined woman of letters or do you want a girl who cannot yet speak proper Valish?"

The marquis had forgotten his rank. This did not go unmissed.

"I'll take the girl, thanks, and before she's been had by the ruffians on this dirty rock. I don't like her being here, Lucien. Stone's throw away from the worst scum in the world."

Lucien could think of worse scum than pirates. For once, he was too angry to speak.

"I'm readying an army, Lucien," the duke mused, lining up a shot a the billiards table. "Laying foundations for one, at least. Ships take a long time to build. Fleets take longer. But, I'm young. I'm patient. I think it shall be a sixteenth birthday gift for my son. Beautiful picture, eh? Father and son sailing off to conquer the world. I've got it all planned out."

    He missed his shot.

"Except for one thing: don't quite know who to conquer first. Seventeen, eighteen years... that's a long time and diplomatic persuasions change so quickly..."

"The Flower Kingdom eagerly anticipates watching your glorious campaign from the mountaintops." Lucien said through his teeth.

The duke only grinned to himself and chalked his cue. "My geography education fails me, Lucien. Tell me, how far are the Floran Highlands from Tir?"

Myst looked up at Morgus with a surprised and curious expression. But she blinked and shook her head.

"I'm sorry, we are not currently hiring." Myst answered. "Are you looking for work?" She asked politely. "If you are a traveler, you maybe could consider to join the Adventurer's Guild. We have the signboard with requests, if it is desired to take a request." Then Myst was interrupted as a hand appeared on her shoulder.

"Are you looking for some work?" Non asked with a content smile.

"We aren't hiring, but if you are worried to make payment for an inn room... We can make a deal? If you will help with the chores, to cut wood and clean dishes or sweep and tell me stories, then I will make your room free."

Kneeling as she cleaned the floor, Non made an embarrassed smile when she looked up at Clive.

"She's embarrassed of course. She doesn't want to be seen by you or Captain Blake for now. She's shy like that, but it's understandable! To drop a pitcher of water and then ruin her dress in front of two handsome men..." Non laughed awkwardly.

"She'll be back when her face cools down." Non turned to Captain Blake.
"Clive is an old friend of Bukiya Inn, Myst was just surprised by the flattery. She's weak to those kind of serifs. Thank you for coming to help too. Is there anything I can do for you Captain Blake? "

Non blushed a little at Vasae's compliment, but she didn't seem flustered by it. She drank her tea politely. Then an excited light appeared in her eyes when Vaseae asked.

"You are very kind! I am a shop owner and a blacksmith, but you are an Ambassador! Surely it is an exciting and interesting experience! I hope it is not rude to ask if you would let me hear some stories from you. I record them of course.

I would also be happy to show you a little about blacksmith or cooking if you would like. But I don't know if I am a good teacher."

"But aren't you very busy?" Non asked curiously.
"Maybe we can make a plan? Of course I am here unless shopping, so always is ok."

Myst was cleaning a table when Jonathan entered. Some fishermen and sailors are talking in the corner, but it seems quiet for once. Non is standing at the counter when Jonathan comes in. She smiles when to hear his song and prepares red wine for him.

Myst looks at Jonathan with a concerned look, but it becomes surprised when she must catch a certain small sack.

"Welcome back!" Non said, to give the drink to Jonathan. When she gives it to him, a certain note is also returned.

"How are you?" Non asked softly, a little concern and curious expression.

Castle Greycourt, Time of Lucien's Arrival, Amber's Fall 21st

An amused tone drifts through the door. "I believe you'll find a large map decorating the far wall, your Grace."

While a worst-case scenario would reveal the disheveled treasure hunter causing havoc, this is fortunately not the current situation. Rayle does indeed stand at the entrance to the parlor, still open after Lucien's shock of the evening, but while she is once again in her serviceable day outfit, it's been thoroughly cleaned, the wrinkles removed and the rips mended, and is now being worn properly, bringing Rayle's personal majesty up to acceptable levels for this kind of company, if only barely.

While she'd never met the duke, or even run into any schemes of his, she detested him already. While Elaine had taught her not to judge by appearances or even first impressions, there were some men that had a 'type' and didn't extend beyond that stereotype in any meaningful way. The duke, by all appearances, was one - claiming one of Lucien's girls as a prize, utilizing her for baby-making purposes, and not even pretending otherwise. The man seemed to be quite similar the scum that Odette was a 'stone's throw away from,' the only real difference being that he'd been born on a heaping pile of gold.

Just to be sure, though, she applied her Standard Basic Intelligence Test. "Tir would be a difficult target. Perhaps you should take a portion of your navy, or even just a few ships, and get some practice in the Crossroad Isles a few years from now - you could get into fighting shape before your grand conquest, and clear out some of the scum you detest so much." Though Rayle's tone remained deadpan, an observant witness could see the slight twitch as she struggled to say it with a straight face.

Non smiled, a cat-like expression. "Things have been interesting! There are a lot of interesting guests recently. And I sold another sword today. I have a good feeling about tomorrow! Right, Myst?"

Myst returned from to put away the money of Jonathan. "Yes, but I hope Jonathan is to truly be ok. It wasn't very polite with such a loud knock, and to get blood on my pajamas." Myst said darkly, but it was a concerned look in her eyes.

"It's ok, we washed it." Non said, to pour another drink for Jonathan with a content smile.

"That's good. I wouldn't want to start covering your clothing expenses now. Those poor lads down at the docks are poor enough as it is." He said still smiling. "And I do apologize for waking you and your customers. I promise next time I'm about to collapse I'll find a nice ditch instead." His laughter was quite literally infectious as he allowed his power to run down its length in an effort to put Myst more at ease.

Castle Greycourt, Time of Lucien's Arrival, Amber's Fall 21st

Where there was Rayle being her usual magnificent self there was, somewhere, behind her the more modest Arabella. She was still in the dress that Lucien's maid had brought for her after the events of earlier that day -- or late the previous day depending on the exact timing -- had destroyed her own clothes. It hadn't seen a great deal of use beyond providing her something to wear for a while before the pair had slunk off to the guest bedrooms to sleep away the morning, so it was still respectfully clean and smart. Her hands migrated to their proper place on the soft blue dress without her realizing, but her smile ruined the image of a lady that would have otherwise been presented. It was a particular smile she found slipping onto her face usually just before she drops out of the air on some unsuspecting animal that soon became lunch. Rather than speak and allow His Grace a reason not to answer Rayle's suggestion Arabella stayed quiet and behind Rayle.
