Re: Grrl Power
You have to love someone who actually says that out loud. I'm totally stealing it for a character in Necessary Evil.
Thanks to Linklele for my new avatar!

Re: Grrl Power
I don't get any Joker from him.
Also, I had no idea what Sydney meant by "inverse ninja" either. I was like "is he a backwards ninja?". If she had said Inverse Ninja Law, then I would've understood it. I call it the Conservation of Ninjutsu.Last edited by Hiro Protagonest; 2014-09-22 at 01:39 PM.

Re: Grrl Power
I am looking forward to seeing what Vehemence's deal is. He had that odd talk with Sydney (complete with the closing thought "good kid. hope she doesn't die tonight"), enough power to shrug off a Cadillac filled with "grenades" and punch through Vektor's telekinetic shield, and enough genre savvy to point out that Death Toll was the only one actually wearing a cape (and that the Inverse Ninja Law applies to the situation). He then suggested he was the orchestrator of this evening's entertainment and gracefully shrugged it off when nobody bought it.
Plus he has a fedora. I do admire anyone who can pull off a fedora.Spoiler: My inventory:

Re: Grrl Power
So is this guys power only super strength/toughness? Because I don't think that will be enough to win this, and I'm not sure why he plausibly would have thought it was a good idea.

Re: Grrl Power
Well, he did chastise Anvil for making her advantages too obvious. Super strength/toughness are pretty obvious abilities for a super (most characters have some level of both), so there's no reason to hide them. Far better to capitalize on them, accentuate them, so that enemy never considers what else you might be hiding.

Re: Grrl Power
And for people who really don't get it, Sydney is doing a Road Runner, nemesis of Wile E. Coyote, impression there in the last two panels.

Two things: This page had me officially LOL, IRL.
And my admiration to the artist for making Anvil look very feminine and yet extremely muscular. His art has REALLY improved.Blizzard Battletag: UnderDog#21677

Re: Grrl Power
You could just as easily have been referring to Dabbler, who has so far been shown to be the 2nd best at everything, and thus beats everyone even when there the actual best at something. And as an added kicker is a succubus and goes in hard for the cheese cake type material.

Re: Grrl Power
Hasn't really been trying to talk to the audience nearly as much to my recollection. Now, talking to Halo out of frame when Halo is acting as the Audience's designated "stand-in," instead of addressing us? Yeah, Dabbler's done that a few times.
While her design and conception could have the accusation of pandering leveled at them, her actual use in the story so far hasn't really struck me that way, and what has seemed off has just been eclipsed entirely by Halo.

Re: Grrl Power
I like Sydney. I love her humor and her antics are the #1 reason I'm reading this comic. The roadrunner imitation is gold. I would like to see her grow in the following chapters, but that's basically a given, he set it up from day one. I don't actually know what "pandering" means in this context though, and google translate isn't helping. Someone please?

Re: Grrl Power
I like Sydney, and Dabbler, but on the other hand having non-protagoinists as your favorite character is not anything new.
Seriously, how many people prefer Luke over Han? Or Ted over Barney? Personally I also prefer (though he is in no way boring) Marion over Indy. Etc.
In this comic my favorite characters, in order, are Max, Anvil, Dabbler, Harem, Sydney, Rest-of-the-girls, the PR woman (whatshername), the General... And then somewhere way over there are all the male cast members...Blizzard Battletag: UnderDog#21677

Re: Grrl Power
I don't know that it's necessary to invent some nefarious motivation for Sydney's existence beyond the author finding her a fun character whom he likes who's also useful for introducing the audience to the team as she herself is introduced to them.

Re: Grrl Power
Can I point out something that's bugged me about this page? Here, Sydney's remarking on how her shield is protecting her from the light beams, because presumably it filters out harmful intensities or something. In the very first (and second) page of the entire webcomic, Sidney's character makes a big deal about transparent force fields not mitigating light-based attacks. I know it's a minor point, but it's a little irksome when it comes to the writer's consistency and how he's thinking about superpowers.

Re: Grrl Power
Here's an idea: Sydney was wrong.
In the comments section of that first or second comic, someone points out that the forcefield could still make the laser as harmless as sunlight on earth, and the author then makes a comment acknowledging that (he may not have thought of that).Avatar of George the Dragon Slayer, from the upcoming Indivisible!
