I don't really like Zelda 2, so it doesn't really interest me to do so. But maybe some day?

As for ocarina of time, I'm already to the Fire Temple, and I'm doing the whole story, so not just the dungeons.

I got it as well, finished the Lakebed Temple this morning. Playing on normal mode, which is mirrored compared to what I was used to on the Wii.

They did a pretty good job upgrading the game to HD. Nearly all 'important' textrues were redone and upgraded. I feel the lighting is a little bit more brighter compared to previously and the bloom was cut back a little, making the game a little more appealing to the eyes. The only thing I could complaing about (graphically speaking) are the relatively low polygons counts on nearly everything when viewed up close, but some clever texturing alleviates that problem a little bit. Found a couple of Miiverse stamps scattered about.

I'm liking it so far .

Now that we've all had a chance to start BotW hopefully, I think its time to rejuvenate the thread! So, what are people's thoughts? Like it, hate it? Secrets you've discovered? Etc...

I just opted for getting it for the Wii U since I already owned that, and from what I hear, I'm glad I'm waiting to get the switch.

I'm also waiting for certain hardware updates for the Switch before taking the plunge, because I also do not have a WiiU.

Having said that, it is something I really, REALLY want to play. The only thing that would make it even better is a Steam launch for PC so I don't have to pay for a glorified tablet. But since the whole point of the game is to force people into buying said glorified tablet, that's simply not gonna happen.

At a very minimum, I'm waiting until the Legacy Library comes to the Switch before I will even remotely consider getting it. And I want them to fix the hardware problem with the antenna in the left JoyCon. Not too much to ask, really.

It's apparently a free fix if you've got an affected one, though like you I'd prefer to buy one that doesn't need fixing.

I don't care about the Legacy Library. If I want to play an old Nintendo game, I just plug in one of the old systems.

My old systems have long since gone non-functional. Besides, there's a lot of really good games from the SNES era I'd like to play with my son.

I always wait until at least 2nd generation. I got the Wii U for Mario Maker (and for the promised Zelda game for the system) back in 2015. Honestly, I'm pretty happy with Mario Maker and Breath of the Wild for the system. I also do Mario Kart occasionally, but not in awhile.

Speaking of Mario Maker, I'm just about finished my remake of Ocarina of Time in Mario Levels. It...has exceeded my expectations in terms of a following, and now well it has turned out. Currently working on the Sage Trials at the base of Ganon's tower. There's gonna be about 30 levels total when I'm done the project.

Fair enough. Mine all still work just fine, except the original NES, but I've also got the NES2, so it's no biggy.

Incidentally, if you've got the carts, I've heard some good things about the Retron 5. It's even capable of HDMI upscaling. Just a thought.

On the topic of Breath of the Wild, I would like to offer a piece of constructive criticism for the game, specifically one mechanic which I feel had a lot put into it that was absolutely wasted: Horses.

Now, it's clear that they really wanted players to be able to do the horse thing. They've got stables scattered about for you to keep your horses at, there's even a horse god who will resurrect fallen horses. There are several riding-based easter eggs (bear, stalfos horse, the spirit creature...) But there's just one problem...

Horses suck as a means of traversal in Breath of the Wild.

Between teleportation and the hang glider, I can get to anywhere from anywhere I want FAR more rapidly. In many cases, it is simply 'teleport to tower, jump off with hang glider, glide to where I want to go'. This from as soon as you get the tower unlocked. And unlocking towers require a considerable amount of... climbing! Which horses cannot do.

Which is another problem. Typically, when I go somewhere, I end up climbing over something. Hills, cliffs, whatever... I'm generally off the beaten path, which is really the only place horses shine.

Now, you'd think that maybe a horse would be a good thing to use if you are exploring a new area, then? Well... sort of, except that again, many things you want to get to involve climbing to get to them, which means abandoning your horse. And the fact that unless you run into a stables, leaving your horse for any significant period of time means losing it, which dramatically reduces the desire to tame and train said horses.

It also dramatically reduces the value of the unique horses... sure, they have good horse stats. Until you have to leave them behind to progress. Which basically means never using any of the neat unique horses in the game for fear of losing them permanently.

Breath of the Wild was a dynamic change in traversal. But you were given so many other means of traversal that horses, while supposedly important, really aren't much good for anything other than getting lost.

Yeah, definitely seems to have need of a Convenient Horses approach, with the ability to summon then so you can climb over the thing then call the horse to you.

Leaving your horse in the middle of nowhere doesn't lose you your horse - you can still summon it from any stable no matter where you left it.

As long as it didn't die. And even if it did, there's a fairy who'll resurrect it for you!

You still have to be AT a stable, which are all rather inconveniently located for getting around.

They tried hard to make horses a thing, with a ton of new mechanics regarding them... but unfortunately with all the other ways of traversal you have, they just kinda get... outshined.

Alright guys, time to rejuvenate! I have completed my Ocarina of Time maps on Super Mario Maker! I'm gonna be holding a race of the levels to be raced by streamers on the 9th and 10th of September on twitch.tv/thewombatofdoom! If you guys know any streamers who play the game, let me know, and let them know! It's gonna be a lot of fun. If not, it'll be fun to watch!
