Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Kazumi Kato, because she's awesome
Flumphs, because someone has to vote against Tarquin
Hilgya, because it's nice to have dwarfs not all be identical.
The Oracle, because it's fun to see someone get the better of Belkar.
Greysky Priest, because I'm not a huge fan of the Greysky City arc.
Roy's Archon, because I find Book IV and its characters (especially the Roy, Elan, and Vaarsuvius arcs) more interesting than Book II, and loved having a tour guide to one of the OotS afterlives.Last edited by LadyEowyn; 2013-02-27 at 08:48 PM.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Favorite Characters Tournament
Kazumi Kato vs. Chief
Sorry, Chief, but I just like Action Mommies.
Flumphs vs. Tarquin
Very hard, because I love the Flumphs, and Tarquin is a bit over-rated (though not as horribly as some OotS characters). Still, story function…
Losers’ Cup
Hilgya Firehelm vs. Pompey
I dunno why, but I really dislike Hilgya. Pompey amuses me, as did Julia; I guess I just find adolescents endlessly amusing.
Kobold Oracle vs. Rookie Cop
The Oracle, besides being more plot relevant, has a sort of Borscht-Belt humor that I really enjoy. The Rookie Cop was funny, but, honestly, that kind of parody was done a little better by Fillmore (though the Giant, of course, is immensely funny over a much wider range of material, and a master of drama as well).
Greysky Priest vs. Hieronymus Grubwiggler
No contest. The Cleric of Loki was one of the better one-shot characters, while H.G. was … meh.
Shadowdancer vs. Roy’s Archon
I’d like to invite Roy’s Archon out for a beer, if he ever gets a tongue.Last edited by Tannhaeuser; 2013-03-06 at 01:37 AM.

Pompey's actually about 35, not an adolescent.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
LONG LIVE THE HOUSE OF KATO! Seriously, Kazumi Kato is a serious badass, and funny to boot.
Tarquin, for ultimate evil badassery and a perfect inversion of Elan's genre savvy humor.

He's 43, but he's also a half elf. 43 is adolescent for a half elf.Last edited by Procyonpi; 2013-02-27 at 10:44 PM.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Whatever Pompey may be by the calendar (and I do not recall offhand what those ages signify for elves), his behavior and general demeanor are those of a hyped up teenaged male. He may be lustful toward Julia, but the joke has a definite adolescent “peeking-in-through-the-window-of-the-girls’-locker-room” feeling, not of a grown man lusting after a teenaged girl. That is more what is implied with Nale toward Sabine and her “naughty schoolgirl” outfit.“But he had not that supreme gift of the artist, the knowledge of when to stop.”

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Twelve Gods! Some of my favorite characters showing up in one round! I was just thinking yesterday about what I would do if
Kazumi
and
Tarquin
came up against each other. Wait and see, I guess. As for the LC:
Hilgya
Oracle
Greysky Priest
Roy's ArchonAt least now I can get back to enjoying my glass of elven wine in peace and quiet, without being called on to intervene in someone else's problems.
Clang, clang, clang goes the trolley! Ring, ring, ring goes the bell! Git away from me, ye daft fool!

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Kazumi Katovs. Chief
One of the toughest choices so far. I really like the Katos, but the Chief is my favorite minor character. Chief gets the nod for the 'Ranks in Ride (my ass) skill' gag. Can't wait for the prequel story.
Flumphs vs. Tarquin
Unbelievably easy. I can't see how the Flumphs have managed to get any votes. Their one running gag is quite good, and I'm not a massive Tarquin fan; but he is at least a character.
Hilgya Firehelm vs. Pompey
Tough choice. THe 'half-elf' reveal was funny, and Pompey had some good moments. Hilgya was good in that she provided Durkon's most meaningful bit of character development to date. I'll vote Hilgya for the 'Go team cleric' strip.
Kobold Oracle vs. Rookie Cop
As implied above, I do like the police department strips. But the Oracle is just great.
Greysky Priest vs. Hieronymus Grubwiggler
Youch choice again. Preist gets it because he had more of an arc. And because he revived the sexy, shoeless God of war.
Shadowdancer vs. Roy’s Archon
The shadowdancer was only a minor character with a good joke attached but he looked pretty cool. Just gets my vote ahead of the archon of exposition. The prison was full of British officers who had sworn to die, rather than be captured.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Chief and Kazumi are both great minor characters, but I've gotta give Kazumi the edge for being more badass and more relevant. Looking forward to seeing her in future strips.
The Flumphs are cool and all when they show up, but they're not really characters in their own right. Tarquin, on the other hand, is one of the more complex antagonists we've had and he easily wins this round.
Loser's Bracket:
This matchup is similar to the Kazumi/Chief one in that they're both minor characters, but these two are a little less interesting. Basically a coin flip, but I went with Hilgya for her contribution to Durkon's character development (as well as the MitD's creepy enjoyment of dwarf porn).
The Oracle is fantastic and stomps all over the poor Rookie Cop.
I really like the Greysky Priest--he's one of my favorite minor characters. I don't care for the other guy at all.
Roy's Archon takes the next round. I like the concept of a tour guide to heaven, plus it was amusing to watch him DMing a game of D&D. And the Shadowdancer, along with Redaxe, is one of the more forgettable antagonists.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Kazumi Kato VS Chief
Flumphs VS Tarquin - I would actually have liked to vote for the flumphs, but against a character as great as Tarquin, it would just be a pity vote.
Hilgya Firehelm VS Pompey - Go, team cleric! (even bought the shirt).
Kobold Oracle VS Rookie Cop - Oracle all the way, poor guy doesn't belong in the losers bracket >_<
Greysky Priest VS Hieronymus Grubwiggler - I'll roll along with the hype on the priest of loki
Shadowdancer VS Roy's Archon - Kaboom Redaxe was the funny part of that duo, so I'll take Roy's Archon.
Also, Redaxe lost with 1 vote ... harsh.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Kazumi Kato and Tarquin.
Hilgya, Oracle, Greysky Priest and Roy's Archon. (this time I've voted for the ones I want to be winning something, instead of the ones I dislike... guess it works this way after all the other voting)Was vernünftig ist, das ist wirklich; und was wirklich ist, das ist vernünftig. (G.W.F.H.)

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Kazumi Kato. I liked the chief fine but I like the Katos more, especially Kazumi. "Why should I care how many people I have to kill? I can just make new ones in my tummy!" was a genuinely new idea to me. Don't see those too often.
Tarquin. The flumphs are just a running joke while Tarquin is one of the most original characters I've seen. His evil genre savviness, his brilliant plan for domination - I love him. Never seen anything like him.
Hilgya Firehelm. I hope she comes back some day.
Kobold Oracle. Funny, interesting, a character of his own rather than a member of some group. He has his own motivations, his own inclinations, and his strips are always great.
Greysky Priest. I just loved his scenes, one and all.
Roy's Archon. The shadowdancer was a nobody, just background colour really. Roy's Archon is a quite charming character for someone who's just a floating ball of light.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Kazumi was awesome, though Chief had some great lines.
Tarquin HAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA.... cough... ahhahahaha. NO serously, loved that matchup.
Pompey Kinda liked Pompey, particularly after he became one of the first minions to resign from Nale's sinking ship.
Oracle I liked the Rookie cop, but he's no contest.
Also, Oracle lost to Monster in the Darkness (someone asked)
Greysky Priest Still kinda sad he got kicked off the WB so fast, so hopefully he'll have a good run here^^
Shadowdancer A fun character with a silly name or another fun character with a silly name? I'll pick the one jumping into the shadows over the ball of light.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Kazumi Kato VS Chief
I can't wait to get the Kickstarter CPPD comic!
Flumphs VS Tarquin
easy one
Hilgya Firehelm VS Pompey
Hilgya story-arc was kinda cool, but only because Durkon, Hilgya without Durkon was kinda meh.
Kobold Oracle VS Rookie Cop
Best Kobold ever! (And at the top of my head the only char that was killed by Belkar and lives to tell the tale!)
Greysky Priest VS Hieronymus Grubwiggler
The Namless Priest of Loki should have one the first round, so this is easy
Shadowdancer VS Roy's Archon
I really liked Roy's ArchonLast edited by ChristianSt; 2013-05-17 at 07:25 AM. Reason: Edited to add singature

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Kazumi Kato - for being flippin' awesome!
Tarquin - Sorry for flumphs, but it's an easy one. One of the best villains that I have seen.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pompey - Cuz Hilgya worth nothing without Durkon.
Kobold Oracle - The thing with the village and mark of justice? Cried from laugh.
Greysky Priest - Love this dude. Plus, he gave us the Belkster back! :)
Roy's Archon - Funny and nice little character. If Roy will die again I know who I will want to meet! (him and Eugine).Last edited by Rui; 2013-02-28 at 02:25 PM.

Absolutely Flumphs. How they can be losing to such a character as the humorless Tarquin [in my opinion] is beyond me

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
I like Kazumi, but Chief makes me laugh more.
Tarquin is not the most interesting character to me. He's an important part of Elan's story, and a somewhat interesting villain (although certainly not Rich's best - not even close). But he is a character, rather than a running gag that, frankly, I've gotten kind of tired of.
Hilgya. Pompey's introduction was amusing, but then he just got annoying. Whereas Hilgya gets points for being (at this point) the strip's longest-hanging Chekhov's Gun.
Kobold Oracle - he bothers me sometimes, but he's also interesting. To me, the Rookie Cop was more of an aspect of Chief's character than he was a character himself.
Graysky Priest - because 610-611 were truly some of the strip's best drama, and he was an interesting fellow.
Roy's Archon - no really deep emotions about either character, but I think the Archon was funnier. Especially when he was pissing off Eugene with hard-core 1e rules. You can call me Draz.

Haley Starshine
Lien
Gannji
Team Peregrine Commander - The first three are much more interesting and developed characters than the alternatives, in my opinion. The last battle, however, was much closer. When it comes down to it, Girard Draketooth did try to kill a bunch of paladins for little reason, and he did overall seem like a not very nice person. I suppose the same can be said about the elf, but he did have some funny lines.

Haley Starshine For bluffing her way out of everything.
Thor Because "Control Weather" does work that way now.
Ganji Because otherwise he'll blow the thermal detonator.
Girard Draketooth For showing how paranoia and bitterness is not always the best for a long-term "protecting the world" gig.
