Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Tsukiko I love cats in real life but they're less interesting in webcomic form. I have to admit, though -- Scruffy has given Durkon a couple of sweet moments over the last couple of strips (telling Malack that he warded the cat, and asking Scruffy to look for Roy).
Miko added some good dynamics to the story.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Mr. Scruffy, though I do generally dislike cats, this one is quite loyal.
Miko, just not feeling Jirix, and Miko's righteous, misguided rage was fun.
Amun-Zora, she's a feisty one, Elan letting her loose on Nale was priceless.
Skullsy, the Kobolds never meant much to me.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Tsukiko had her part and did it well, but Mr. Scruffy gave Belkar character development so he wins.
I thought Miko was pretty good. She challenged the Order and then had a good death. She contrasted with the other paladins well. The roaches I could take or leave.
Ooof, battle of the nobodies with Hank and Amun-Zora, but I'll go for the latter since it gave Tarquin a chance to be evil.
Finally, Yikyik set the gold standard for all other Kobolds to try and follow. I liked Skullsy but he's no Yikyik.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Tsukiko was a fun character to hate. I liked her rivalry with Redcloak, her rivalry with Haley. Belkar commenting on her miniskirt might have been his only lewd comment I truly enjoyed. And I LOVED Tsukiko's (quoted) death. But in spite of all of this, I have to give my vote to Mr. Scruffy because he has such an impressive amount of personality for just being an alinguistic animal. Although some of that "personality" may or may not actually be there, rather than being a product of Belkar's imagination ("the real power behind the throne of Azure City" ). I hesitated about this vote ... but then I remembered we actually saw a showdown of Scruffy vs. Tsukiko (which was hilarious), and Scruffy won.
Jirix ... eh. Kind of boring. Miko was anything but. The forum wars she caused were sometimes annoying, but she was a good parody of Lawful Stupid paladin problems.
Hank is a good example of neutrality, and I get a kick out of the way he rules (or at least embezzles) the Thieves' Guild from behind Bozzok's throne. Also his semi-friendship with Haley.
Skullsy was more memorable than Yikyik. You can call me Draz.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Mr. Scruffy VS Tsukiko
was going to skip the voting (I don't care really about the rest and thought that Tsukiko - like in the comic - would have no chance against the Scruffinator), but here is my vote for Mr. Scruffy
Jirix VS Miko Miyazaki
Really close one - Jirix is much more interesting in himself, but Miko is much more interesting overall
Hank VS Amun-Zora
if Hank doesn't win, I wouldn't be upset
Skullsy VS Yikyik
I don't like the Xykon-triplets, but the Kobolds are still worse in my opinionLast edited by ChristianSt; 2013-05-17 at 07:49 AM. Reason: Edited to add singature

FCT
Mr Scruffy, Jirix
For me the first was no contest. I liked Tsukiko's role in the Team Evil dynamic (loved to hate that is) but Scruffy=Scruffy.
The second is harder because, though I hate Miko's person, her role in the narrative was quite something. Still, I'll let charisma trump plot this time.
LC
Hank - I'm a fan of Hank
Skullsy - Eye of a little less flame and a little too much fear!

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Mr. Scruffy VS Tsukiko
I'd define myself as a Cat Person, so the odds were always going to be stacked against Tsukiko in this one. She was a good character, who paid a horrible price for her delusion about the nature of undead. But the Scruffinator gets my vote, if only for the recent strip in which he tries to defend and rescue his master from Malack
Jirix VS Miko Miyazaki
An easy one. I've nothing much against Jirix, and like to see Red Shirt get a name and promotion; but Miko is one of my favourite characters; a tragic heroine who could not see, let alone overcome, her fatal flaws.
Hank VS Amun-Zora
A tough choice, in that neither character has had a good deal of screen time. Hank sticks in my head more, but that is only because I haven't yet re-read the current arc.
Skullsy VS Yikyik
And so my streak of voting against the Linear Guild Kobold of the Week continues. Both of these characters would be nothing without Belkar, of course; Skullsy gets the nod for being funnier. The prison was full of British officers who had sworn to die, rather than be captured.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Tsukiko She was interesting, and I'm not voting for a cat.
Jirix As a person who prizes and values pragmatism and logic, I cannot in good conscience vote for someone so deluded in her own egotistical vision, and I like Jirix.
Hank Amun-Zora is not yet a character, but just an example and a victim of Tarquin's ploy. When/if we see her again, this opinion may change. And Hank was the best member of the Guild (except for Haley of course^^)
Skullsy Eye of lots of fear and a little flame wins over what is arguably the least interesting of the kobolds of the week.

Favorite Characters Contest
Mr. Scruffy vs. Tsukiko
Mr Scruffy is great! Lots of good scenes despite being a lineless housecat, well done by Rich.
Jirix vs. Miko Miyazaki
Not really a Miko hate vote, I do think Jirix has a pretty good place in the comic as the only other goblin than redcloak to really show as a distinct character.
Losers’ Cup
Hank vs. Amun-Zora
Hank was more fun and a more fleshed out character, imo.
Skullsy vs. Yikyik
Yikyik had the most funnies for me.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Tsukiko. I love Mr Scruffy's presence in the comic and I love what he's doing to Belkar, but ultimately he is not really a character. Tsukiko, for all her emo whining and silly teenage pretentiousness, was.
Miko. While I cannot say that I like her, I like the fact that she was in the comic. I liked her arc, her effects on the plot, her example as a Lawful Good jerk. Besides, while the "Ghost-martyrs of the Sapphire Guard - ATTACK!" scene seems a common choice for best scene of the comic, I prefer a related one: Miko's death scene. "I can live with that".
Hank. We haven't seen much of Amun-Zora and I have a feeling we won't, while Hank is one of those lovely little characters that make this comic what it is. I'm a sucker for villains - technically, Hank is one - who aren't simply evil.
Skullsy. Against any other of the Linear Guild Kobolds Skullsy would probably lose, but Yikyik didn't do much of anything.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
FCT
Tsukiko. Hopefully she can avenge her defeat against Mr. Scruffy in the actual comic.
Miko. The revolving door afterlife is one of my least favorite things about D&D, so there's no way I'm voting for someone who has already been brought back from the dead twice.
LC
Hank. I appreciate his hyper-competence.
Skullsy. His overcoming his fear and standing up to Belkar was strangely moving.

Would-be-Count Bitterleaf. Seriously, Crystal? I'm surprised she even got through the first...oh, she was paired with Girard? Never mind.
Qarr. At least until I get SoD...
Gladiator Warden. Malack-technically speaking, he is not a loser since he didn't lose the first round
Inkyrius. Going against a creature that nuked black dragon, armed only with a stick? BadAss.There must be some sense of order - personal, political or dramatic - and if no one else is going to bring it to this world, I will.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Wow, I think that was the first round I've voted for all the winners.
Alas, poor Crystal, your glorious "PICKLE DEATH ATTACK!" didn't make me laugh quite as much as Belkar's best moments.
Qarr. I admit, this one was hard. Secret SoD Character is awesome. But you gotta admire Qarr's go-getter attitude about accomplishing evil, especially when he's not quite the brightest fellow. And I'm loving his new interpersonal conflicts with Sabine and Zz'dtri.
Thanh - I didn't love the gladiator warden's jokes, and he was a one-strip star. Meh.
And finally ... ugh. I really didn't like either of these characters at all. But I guess I'll vote for Knot-Topped Resistance Leader. Like Mr.Rictus said, at least the included quote was a good one.Last edited by Draz74; 2013-03-02 at 06:42 PM.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Belkar Poor Crystal, she's going to be knocked out by Belkar again. I'm not a huge fan of dumb characters in general and she's my least favorite character of all.
Secret SoD Character again, easy choice here, I never liked Qarr.
Ho Thanh He was really brave, being far too low level for the challenges he got thrown at him, but he didn't give up and did his best. He was absolutely great when he saved Niu.
Knot-topped Resistance Leader Azure City Resistance (or whatever name they finally decided on) was pretty kickass, while Inky seems to me rather whiny and ungrateful. V sacrificed so much to save hir and (s)he broke up with V by sending hir divorce papers...
