Thanh. Why was the Gladiator Warden even in this contest, anyway? He was basically a one-off gag. It's like including Larry Gardener or something.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Belkar Bitterleaf - After the Shojo dream, Belkar became a lot more interesting.
Secret SoD Character - This character is awesome, and very important to understanding one very important character in the story. In a battle between O-Chul and this character, I don't know who I'd vote for.
Ho Thanh - Not much of a contest.
Inkyrius - I barely remember what that other guy did.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
FCT
I think Belkar will win this quite easily despite Crystal being the "first" rival Haley had. It also happen on the strip
Then the Secret SoD Character because, read it. Qarr stands no chance against him despite being the Devil's face on this story so far.
LC
Thanh all the way, the Warden isn't bad, but isn't big either, Wizard Guy beats him at "few but memorable appearences"
Lastly, Inkyrius weight on the story is bigger than the poor Leader, so there goes my vote.My Player Registry entry.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Belkar Bitterleaf: Belkar is my least favorite of the six protagonists, but I enjoy the character well enough.
Secret SoD Character: While I don't think it's fair to include a character that's not in the main comic, this was no contest. I really enjoyed this character, but am rather indifferent toward Qarr.
After that death scene? Definitely Thanh.
Inkyrius.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Belkar. He's my least favourite of the OOTS by a large margin, and a psychopathic misogynistic little *******, but Crystal is really annoying.
Secret SOD Character. I haven't bought the prequel, but from what everyone says about him he sounds pretty cool.
Thanh. The Resistance is awesome.
Inkyrius. She's completely awesome - seriously, a baker's apprentice with a stick standing up against an evil superpowerful mage - and I think by this point we can recognize that if V had listened to her s/he'd be better off. Don't blame her for suing for divorce at all - if your spouse selling their soul isn't sufficient cause, flying off and leaving when your two little kids have broken legs with only a cursory question about their well-being is.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Belkar. Even if Crystal was amusing.
Qarr. I haven't read SoD.
Well, that was easy. On to the LC...
Ho Thanh, continuing my pattern of Voting For Azurites.
Inkyrius is awesome, not just from Vaarsuvius' halo effect, although that doesn't hurt either.
Pleased to see Mr. Scruffy continue on another round! And that Miko's hatedom hasn't yet done her in. And Mr. Skullsy. Really last round was quite satisfying.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Belkar of course.
Secret SOD character by a hair. I like the way he plays off of [his family member]. Thought about going with Qarr, though; he's annoying, sure, but entirely by design.
Gladiator Warden because the Warden didn't get a shot in the first tournament, and his big strip made me laugh so goddamned much. Still, I hate to vote against Thanh; the guy is a total mensch and I wish he'd taken out Belkar so I cold vote for him in the non-loser's cup.

Belkar Bitterleaf vs. Crystal
Protagonist against minor villain? Pffft.
Secret SoD Character vs. Qarr
Because.

Ho Thanh vs. Gladiator Warden
He was kind of a stiff, but a heroic kind of a stiff.

Got to be:
Belkar, Thanh, Inkyurius, Quarr.
Because frankly, this comic needs a baker, and I like Inkyurius. Banana muffins for everyone! (and character development, that too).

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Fixed that for you.
... How do you figure? By the time V had an argument with Kyrie about hir behavior, (s)he had already made her big/evil mistake (Familicide). I mean, I guess giving up the Soul Splice right then and there might have been the moral thing to do, and at least it would have meant less time that the IFCC gets to control V at a crucial gate-seizing moment ... but as far as consequences we know about, V's actions after the argument were pretty successful overall (not counting V's own physical suffering while being beaten to a pulp by Xykon, or the eventual emotional turmoil of getting divorce papers ... and the latter was probably inevitable, if V was going to stay an adventurer trying to save the world at all).
If V had listened to Kyrie, then
- V would have been stuck in the elven lands, with no good way of quickly reuniting with the OotS as they finally un-split the party
- the Azure-ites wouldn't have been Epic Teleported to their new home
- Redcloak would still have depth perception
- Jirix would be one level higher
- O-chul (and his detailed intel about Xykon's capabilities) wouldn't have escaped
- Xykon's phylactery wouldn't have gotten lost in the sewers and delayed his campaign to conquer the world for weeks
- Redcloak wouldn't have given Xykon a fake phylactery
- Vaarsuvius and Blackwing wouldn't have started making friends and cooperating
- V & Blackwing wouldn't know about the planet inside the rift, and that they need to learn more about what's going on in this whole overarching plot
The only downside I see to all of this is that it kicked Xykon out of his complacency, making him more focused on his evil plans (including his astral fortress). I think the lost phylactery probably makes up for that all by itself ... which means all those other consequences were a WIN for the white hats.
EDIT: Hmmm, I guess one more downside is that the Resistance no longer "flew under Redcloak's radar," thanks to the phylactery thing. If Darth V hadn't visited Azure City, it's possible (but certainly not a sure thing) that Team Evil would have left the city with the Resistance intact, with only Jirix to contend with. But while the destruction of the Resistance was sad, it's small potatoes compared to the main plot.Last edited by Draz74; 2013-03-02 at 11:07 PM.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
V wouldn't have given the IFCC a substantial amount of time to take control of her, she wouldn't have spurred Xykon and Redcloak into moving for the next gate instead of hanging around doing not much. She could have taken time to consult with her former teacher, and she could have rejoined the party after a shorter time span, if necessary, by getting Aarandarius to teleport her there. And there's at least a chance Aaarandarius and/or V would have figured out the loophole in the agreement with the fiends if some time had been taken to settle down and think about things - in which case they could have decided that keeping V somewhere secure and away from the gates was the wiser option. And V would have had some time to work on her emotional stability and judgement, which is much-needed.
Really, the only substantive thing V's actions accomplished was the escape of O-Chul, which is non-negligible but may not turn out to be nearly as important as the consequences of V being in the position to give the fiends control of a gate.Last edited by LadyEowyn; 2013-03-02 at 11:13 PM.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
This is one of the few times I prefer Belkar Bitterleaf to anyone, but Crystal was dumber and less funny than Elan.
I'm dying (not literally! :P) to get my hands on a copy of SoD, so I'll vote for the Secret SoD Character! Besides, Qarr's a moron.
The gladiator warden was one of the funnier characters from the EoB arc, but I prefer Ho Thanh. Mostly for the moustache. And because Belkar saying "strike me down, and I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine!" was hilarious.
Inkyrius. No contest. And not just because s/he (heck, the entire family!) is absolutely adorable.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Crystal because she allowed for some of my favorite Belkar moments to happen.
Qarr to make up for the people voting for Correct-Eye without reading SoD.
Warden because I already honoured Thanh with my sig for like a year.
Inkyrius for standing up to a genocidal maniac with a stick.

Gah! This thread is too fast? What is its base movement speed? 9982635973256925 ft per round?!?
Belkar. Crystal was cool for a bit, but she really just ended up making Belkar more awesome.
SoD character
Warden I never really got attached to Thanh, and he was around for a long time. The warden, on the other hand, was funny from the start.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Belkar. No contest at all.
Secret Character, who is an amazing part of an awesome book. Qarr is just an annoying little creep.
Gladiator Warden. A one-joke character, sure. But it was a great joke.
Inkyrius. The resistance leaders are barely characters, while I love what Inkyrius did with the one single scene he/she got.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Belkar Bitterleaf vs. Crystal
No contest; probably the funniest character in the story against Haley's second string nemesis.
Secret SoD Character vs. Qarr
Well yeah. I like Qarr, but if you've read SoD, you'll understand why this contest is not a hard one.
Ho Thanh vs. Gladiator Warden
The Gladiator warden was good, but the noble but doomed Ho Thanh takes this one.
Inkyrius vs. Knot-topped Resistance Leader
Another no-brainer for me; the scenes with Inkyrius and Darth V are great.Last edited by sam79; 2013-03-03 at 07:25 AM.

Belkar Bitterleaf vs. Crystal
Crystal is funnily stupid, but the Sexy Shoeless God of War can't be stopped
Secret SoD Character vs. Qarr
Qarr is cool, but the ending of SoD is one of the most epic moments in OotS
Ho Thanh vs. Gladiator Warden
I never warmed for Ho Thanh, so I go with the funnier one
Inkyrius vs. Knot-topped Resistance Leader

Belkar, Secret SoD Character
The first was the easiest choice so far- so easy, it was enacted in the strip! - "You poor, dumb pickle-woman..." And the second, I'm a fan of Qarr, but this was no contest either.

Thahn - His heroic sacrifice earns him this vote.
Inky - I really don't like either of the lesser resistance leaders...Last edited by LuPuWei; 2013-03-03 at 07:24 AM.
