FCT
Malack. He killed a PC and looks likely to make it stick (something even Xykon hasn't been able to do so far.) I like Roy well enough, but his own achievements are pretty minor compared to that.
LC
Nale. Even though he defeated my beloved Sangwaan in the last round, I still find him a more interesting character than Old Blind Pete.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Malack
Even though Roy is more important in this comic, I somewhat dislike his personality and his LG. Also, Malack is just too awesome.
Nale Meh . . . Pete was okay, but he was only funny when he was getting destroyed by the Greysky cleric.Who is a sexy shoeless god of war?
Yeah.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Holy crap. The count is now 23-23 for Malack vs. Roy.
I think something some people are forgetting is the fact that this is the favorite character tourney, not most important, which is why I already voted for Malack.
Edit: 23-23 on my count. I could, of course, missed one.Last edited by Belkar<3; 2013-04-01 at 05:50 PM.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
This. Roy has an awesome biting sense of sarcasm and quite a few badass moments. When you strip away the "is a vampire and genocidal maniac" aspects of Malack, he's actually a pretty dull character. I'd much rather hang out with Roy Greenhilt than Malack, even discounting the fact that He's far less likely to sacrifice me to a death god.

But don't worry Roy, I still love you and would definitely prefer seeing you win than O-Chul :)

Roy
Malack's cool and all, but Roy is king.
Nale
Versus Old Blind Pete? No question.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
The only times I like Roy are when he is acting more neutral than good or more neutral than lawful (he rarely does both at the same time). When he is demonstrably Lawful Good he usually annoys me.
MALACK
Also, Nale

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
I suppose this would be the Duke-Michigan State matchup in the Sweet Sixteen--a blockbuster! I love that it's appropriately close. Some of the comments here have already pretty well summed up my views on these characters--I would have voted for Malack in this one if it weren't for the whole "I'm going to kill 1000 people a day" thing, which turned him from an interesting and nuanced villain in my mind to a more straightforward complete monster-type villain, which we've seen before. I still like his character and all, but I'm going to vote for Roy Greenhilt here. I would have voted for Malack over a couple of PCs, but I love Roy's role as the straight man in the group and his sarcasm really makes a lot of the strips for me. He's never been a boring protagonist to me! :)
The other matchup is easy. I like Nale okay and he's definitely important to the comic. I don't really like Old Blind Pete at all.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Nothing against Malack ... wait, strike that. Two major grievances. He murdered his "friend" Durkon who was just trying to be a Good guy, and more importantly, I'm mildly annoyed on a meta level by the fan worship he has picked up on the Forum. (This is true of most characters who go through "fads" on the Forums, even if they're characters I love like O-chul and thog -- the overemphasis gets annoying. But Malack's recent popularity feels especially wrong to me, on par with Miko's back in Ye Olde Days.)
Meanwhile, Roy is one of my very favorite characters for so many more reasons than just being central to the plot and having a lot of screen time. His deadpan snarking is often brilliant, and overall provides glimpses of a personality I can actually relate to, to a rare degree. Furthermore, I actually opine that he is a brilliant example of avoiding Major Protagonist Syndrome. Yes, he's the straight man of the group (in some ways), and his personality and effectiveness are more believable than e.g. Elan or Belkar. But none of that changes that he has a distinct personality. He isn't just there for the purpose of being the main character. He has complex motivations, development, relationships that aren't directly connected to the plot.
On a less-important note, Nale. This one, I admit, is mostly a vote based on plot relevance. Pete was actually an interesting character -- mostly because he actually managed to shock me with his treachery. And that would be enough to win him this contest in spite of plot importance, if I truly disliked Nale. But Nale is mostly a fun B-villain; I especially appreciate his setting up of the Cliffport battle, which is one of my favorite arcs in the whole comic. You can call me Draz.

- Winning Entry of Gestalt Build Challenge IV
- 3rd Place in Iron Chef XI (Blade Bravo)
- Judge of Iron Chef XXIII (Divine Champion)
I have a number of ongoing projects that I manically jump between to spend my free time ... so don't be surprised when I post a lot about something for a few days, then burn out and abandon it.

greenhilt's a jerk. If there were a "Least Favorite Character Tournament", Roy would be in my quarter finals.Hanlon's Razor:

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Roy Greenhilt - I love Malack, yet Roy is my most loved character for plot (Belkar for laughs).
Nale - Pete is fine, yet Nale is hilarious for his "I'm genius" attitude.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
This is intense!
By the way, is the Loser's Cup just for the first round's losers? Would be hilarious if Nale is crowned king of the losers, but he doesn't stand a chance if later round losers are in.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
It would be kinda pointless if round 2+ losers didn't get into the losers bracket

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Roy. I agree with the people who say that Malack is a boring character. I feel like he's only in the story as a plot device for Durkon. Roy, on the other hand, is brave, witty in an ironic sort of way, and overall a great party leader.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Hmmm. Tough one. I'm not his biggest fan, but I'll go with Malack. He is an entertaining villain, have a few good lines and did move things up in the last strips. Roy suffers in my book from the main character syndrome, meaning I have trouble really sympathising with him. I have nothing bad to say about him, it just... doesn't click.
Nale as my second vote. Considerably easier choice.Fluctuat nec mergitur
