Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Absolutely! I'm just surprised that there's that much loathing/loving to loath out there.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
But Roy against Tarquin doesn't have the same hilarity.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Malack vs Tarquin: same team, similar appeal, also been friends for ages.
Malack vs Durkon: What did he just do?
Roy vs Durkon: Friends, both LG (well, was)
Roy vs Tarquin: Both leaders? Eh, it'd probably be the same sort of thing as Malack vs Roy.
Last one just sounds dull in comparison.Things to avoid:

It's less personal, though. Which is why I find it kind of dull in comparison.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
So I'm beginning to wonder which will happen first: This thread hits 50 pages, or we get a new comic.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
speaking for myself -
1. Easily defeated the loathsome Belkar. I wish he'd ripped his fuzzy little head off...
2. Easily defeated Durkon.
3. Vampires are kinda cool. At least, those that do not sparkle in the sun...
4. Depth. He's not a 1-dimensional villain. He may be evil, but he is civilized, sophisticated and is interested in friendship.
5. He's smart. Smart goes a long way. His passcode for defeating Durkon's mass deathward was golden.
6. I just don't like Roy and have fantasized about him dying since around strip 100. Maybe even before that.Hanlon's Razor:

Favourite Character Tournament
My first pick would be Malack and Nale for the Loser's Club.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
So, it's 40-40 now? Epic
Meanwhile, Nale is quietly collecting a vast amount of votes for himself. What a leechLast edited by Mike Havran; 2013-04-08 at 01:56 PM.
There must be some sense of order - personal, political or dramatic - and if no one else is going to bring it to this world, I will.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Hehe, I never thought the Tournament thread would become so tense. I just hope that even if Roy wins this, another character will defeat him, it's boring if the main character wins :)

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
I'd say there were several jokes; the depression over PCs acting like he doesn't exist, the drunken Teleport shenanigans, and the skeleton hand puppet. All some good, high-quality comedy. If it's him vs. Sabine next, well, it's been a while since Sabine was all that interesting. Long time since the Wizard was alive, on the other hand. Call it a wash, I guess.

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
1. Lead to Belkar and Roy getting more character developement, and Malack becoming more like a generic villain.
2.Same as 1
3.I feel like they are getting really overdone, though
4.Really? He doesn't have nearly the depth of Belkar or Roy, who you apparently like less than Malack.
5.Roy's smart...
6.Okay

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
1. If we're just talking about him v. Belkar, then no, I don't see how that made him generic. Hell, it facilitated his big reveal; who knows how long it would have (logically - the story's logic meant it had to happen soon somehow) taken for us to find out otherwise.
2. More valid here, but it was still an awesome fight in which he showed a surprising amount of restraint (didn't resort to physically overpowering Durkon until the latter forces a direct slugfest, spared Belkar after).
3. He's at least innovative in the vampire field. It's not every day you see a reptilian vampire, now is it?
4. You're assuming that depth is the only criteria that's relevant; the most fleshed out character in the comic is probably...I dunno, Haley maybe. Or Vaarsuvius. My acknowledging that doesn't force me to like either of them, and this is the Favorite Character Tournament, not the Most Fleshed-Out Character Tournament.
5. So?

Re: Favourite Character Tournament
Actually, I'm not a huge fan of lizardmen, but Malack has some nice qualities.
- He's a real gentleman (as opposed to Roy).
- He's smart. I like characters with high int and/or charisma, they have bigger potential and more depth.
- He's wearing black robe with giant hood and that's like +10 to coolness factor.
- I like the way how his personality was gradually revealed, starting from innocent, modest scholar and ending up as bloodthirsty vampire who cruelly murdered a PC.
- He didn't hurt Mr. Scruffy (if he did, it would've been major drawback for me).
- The bloodwart tea joke was hilarious.
Still, there are many characters I like better than Malack, but I also really dislike Roy. For my taste, he gets way too much of screen time, his personality isn't really interesting. I was really glad when he died in the Battle of Azure City, but then there was this "Roy's afterlife" arc which is probably my least favorite part of the whole comic.
