one-console coop games?
Does anyone have any recommendations for a decent 2 player coop game that only requires a single console? (no system link or lan, please). Splitscreen or shared space is fine, ps3 or x360 formats.
Ideally, I'm looking for an action/adventure or RPG - but definitely no FPS, so Borderlands is out.
Any ideas, playground?"Ia! Ia! Cthulhu Ftagn!" said the cultist.

Re: one-console coop games?
Looking over my 360 collection:
Trine 2, although only if your friendships are durable enough to withstand the battering that game will induce.
Plants vs Zombies - not really a proper co-op game, but involved enough for younger players
Any of the Lego games
Eternal Sonata is a fairly standard JRPG, but has co-op on the battle screens.
Torchlight is popular (a dungeon crawling Diablo like apparently), but I haven't played it.
Minecraft - self explanatory
Lara Croft: Guardian of Light - isometric platformer which is quite fun
A World of Keflings - building and management game (again for younger players)
Defenders of Ardania - Tower defence, but I forget whether it had a co-op mode.
Castle Crashers is another one I hear good things about.

Re: one-console coop games?
While I respect your personal taste, could I ask why no FPS games? They've come a long way since DOOM and Duke Nukem and despite what the internet might try to tell you, they're not just for frat boys and prepubescent teens anymore.
If you (or your gaming partner) has given them a chance recently (or if there's a reason you can't get over, like it's too graphic for your partner or the controls are just too unruly) and you still aren't feeling it, no big deal, I just want to make sure you (or again, gaming partner) don't miss out on some great games because of a preconceived notion.
For suggestions?
There's Fable 2 and 3 to look into. I know Fable 2 does local co-op but I'm not 100% sure about #3. Fairly standard action adventure, however, Fable 2 forces the second player to play 'henchman' character, which is far shallower than the hero (can't customize gear, can't level up properly, etc).
In addition, I recommend checking out this wiki page for dozens upon dozens of ideas: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...r_the_Xbox_360

Re: one-console coop games?
The "Tales of" series is an action-JRPG series that allows up to four players to play at once during fights (first player always controls the party outside of battle). On the PS3 and 360 there are two available (outside Japan) at the moment - Tales of Vesperia on the 360 I'd say is the better of the two due to a better story, but Tales of Graces F on the PS3 has a better combat system. Both are good games though.

Re: one-console coop games?
My brother and his GF have been playing through Resident Evil 5 and 6 (I think, numbers could be off) lately in coop. It is somewhere between FPS and survival/horror, but most survival/horror games are pretty FPSish at this point. So it really depends on what part of the FPS system you don't like.

Re: one-console coop games?
Thanks for the help :)
The no-FPS is a taste decision. I already have Borderlands, and my gaming partner isn't a fan.
Also, is Torchlight multiplayer? It would be perfect, but I thought it was single-player only."Ia! Ia! Cthulhu Ftagn!" said the cultist.

Re: one-console coop games?
Ooh, yes. CC is always a good one.
If you play Red Knight, and max out your magic, you can get really powerful. Y'know, until you get to the guys who are resistant to your magic (who actually don't come along until really late in the game), at which point you're basically as weak as you possibly could be. The game is also pretty replayable to try other characters and find secrets (the secrets aren't character-dependant, but the second time around you might be going for the "walk behind every bit of scenery" method), which makes up for the fact that it's also short.
Deatheven13 did a Let's Play on YouTube, but he accidentally deleted the vids past a certain point and you have to jump to PlanetMars2's channel (which isn't all that inconvenient, but I think her vids are worse quality). Good thing he was playing co-op with someone who was recording.Avatar of George the Dragon Slayer, from the upcoming Indivisible!

Re: one-console coop games?
Army of Two is okay, the sequel is really surprisingly close to awesome though, as a co-op game. I suspect third person shooter is probably a little close to first person shooter to be a comfortable recommendation here though, so maybe try the demo?
You don't really need to have played the first one to appreciate the second, btw.
There are a few multiplayer Arcade games that might be worth considering. (Again, Demo first is always a good idea). I think Crimson Alliance was one we ran through, up to 3 player perhaps?

Re: one-console coop games?
I'll second any and all of the LEGO games.
It requires a certain mindset, but Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3 is fun for local co-op."And if you don't, the consequences will be dire!"
"What? They'll have three extra hit dice and a rend attack?"

Re: one-console coop games?
To play off of Hunter's suggestion, Dynasty Warriors often includes local co-op and also comes in non-gundam form if you're not into giant robots.

Re: one-console coop games?
Yes, the Empires series is really quite good. Me and my brother have ruled countless empires together through it's co-op functions on a single system. It also allows you to create characters you can use (called 'edit' characters). If you're looking for a little creativity in your games that way it's a perfect fit.
