Rise of the Guardians (Upcoming Dreamworks movie)
Because I haven't seen this anywhere yet...
Rise of the Guardians, Trailer 1
Rise of the Guardians, Trailer 2
The figures of childhood imagination, known as the Guardians, are immortal warriors who protect hope and innocence and guard the children of the world from harm. So long as the children believe in magic, the Guardians protect them. The spirit Pitch, essentially the king of Nightmares, rises up to challenge their power for domination over the children.
I'm really really looking forward to this one. Anyone else?...but of course that's just my opinion.

Re: Rise of the Guardians (Upcoming Dreamworks movie)
It looks like good fun. I've always liked Jack Frost so it's good to know he'll be joining.
I wonder if we'll see cameos from other such characters like the mouse that has the tooth fairy's job in mexico.Avatar Credit: the very talented PseudoStraw. Full image:Spoiler

Re: Rise of the Guardians (Upcoming Dreamworks movie)
I thought making the Easter Bunny an Aussie was a nice touch. It's almost as if they realised that Jack Frost is a pointless character in the Southern Hemisphere, so they gave us a little nod to make up for it. :P
Mostly I'm looking forward to seeing one of the scenes glimpsed in the second trailer - Sandman vs Pitch in a gigantic aerial battle of dream constructs. That just looks epic. But the whole thing really entices me... I'm a sucker for the "Children's character who is secretly badass" trope. This is a movie based entirely around it. I love that....but of course that's just my opinion.

Really good character design, and the presence of Guillermo Del Toro is a warranty to me.

Re: Rise of the Guardians (Upcoming Dreamworks movie)
I have to agree with the top comment on part one.
Its like The Avengers for kids. And that is awesome.
Though Santa reminded me of heavy "That was just expression".
EDIT: Damn, I did NOT like the second trailer.
Jack Frost is too much the usual teenage boy with powers (in this case truly a special snow-flake) that usurps the majority of the movie.
With just the other four it would have been enough. I can already see them following the formula and making 60-70% of the movie about Jack exclusively to focus on the character kids can imagine themselves to be.Last edited by Re'ozul; 2012-09-05 at 07:58 AM.

Re: Rise of the Guardians (Upcoming Dreamworks movie)
I'm more concerned about when Rule 34 gets hold of Jack Frost and the Easter Bunny. After trailer #2 you know it's just a matter of time.
Still, it all depends on how they handle him. It's a fairly straightforward meme: He's the new guy joining the established team, which allows him to be the audience vehicle for the introductions, exploration, etc. He could be annoying as hell, and spoil the other characters in the film, or he could be decent. We'll just have to see....but of course that's just my opinion.

Wait, Jack Frost as the new kid archetype? That's...unexpected.

I think I have seen a ton of badass santas in my lifetime.
There was that old cartoon entirely dedicated to the idea
There was a badass santa in robot boy
There was a badass santa in my life as a teenage robot
My favorite was from KND, who had an X-Men type team and a hyperadvanced sleigh

Del Toro has worked on it. That means I will watch it, even if I must drag in a younger child in a "baby sitting" thing to do so.

This seems so epic, I've got goose bumps.

Anyone else getting a Neil Gaiman-esque vibe from this?
