Good to know I didn't imagine seeing Jayden in that panel.I am morbidly looking forward to what kind of praise Dragon-Luna will end up giving Jacob.

Did he just edit the comic for the better? The panel with Jayden was lazy and bad, this is less bad just lazy. Since when does Mookie have any standards at all?

Depends on what your definition of better is. The flow is still jarring as hell, and I didn't realize it was supposed to be a flashback at first until I looked through a second time.

Ah, I can see he has different clothing in that panel now. Is he strong enough now because he remembered to take a scarf? (don't really see what this one panel flashback adds to the page though.)

Hey, has anyone read Limyaael's Fantasy Rants? There are times I feel like Mookie writes like an itemized list of her peeves.

Hey, would anyone mind if I suggest we post the link to the master thread?

I'm sure this is intended to be a dramatic moment, tragic heroism and all, but Luna and the Snuggly bomb just look way too silly for that to work.

Isn't there some kind of teleportation spell Luna can use to catch up with the bomb? Or is it too difficult to use for some reason?

I thought this was the heroic sacrifice that a final battle like that (obviously) needs.

But if Jacob, by being overwhelmed by a part of Rilian's power, becomes a new and - by virtue of being born a Deegan - improved Rilian, that'd be wonderfully stupid.

So wonderfully stupid it was clearly going to happen from the moment we met Rillian.

If it involves Jacob putting together an unnecessarily elaborate scheme to have his brother* punched in the nuts by a dwarf, I'm all for it.

    *Either one, really.

Also, I see an old friend in panel 7!

This is the only comic I know when a human disintegrates into bones during what is supposed to be an epic scene, and yet we're all pretty sure he'll be all right.

Well, he DID spend most of the first half of the series removing the flesh from his body. Specifically his arms and face. So it strikes me as a little less scary in this case.

Also, I have this bad bad feeling. Jacob is going to be the new style of necromancer, with mastery over life and death. He will be able to remove blight and other impurities from sick people and things, healing them, he can then take that stored blight and use it in combat to destroy. With all the waffle about the balance between life and death nakta and bitka and ditka im just seeing it happen along those lines, not just mastery over death, but mastery over life as well.

I don't know...Rilian apparently dying makes Jacob getting more magical superpowers for arbitrary and nonsensical reasons look kind of obvious, but maybe Mookie has watched, read or played something with a heroic sacrifice by a redeemed bad guy in it recently?
I mean, there's definitely enough science fiction and fantasy stuff around to give him a couple of choices when it comes to deciding what common tropes and story elements to cut into some bizarre shape and work into the patchwork of bull**** that is Dominic Deegan, so I've pretty much given up guessing what it's going to be.

Plottwist - Jacob was no longer human in the King's eyes so he mindcontrolled him into doing it, Puncy punches all the Deegans in the crotch, including Miranda.

It is possible I think. The scene where Adrak tells Jacob undeath is unnatural could be taken as foreshadowing. Unlike Rilian who believes necromancy is a neutral art of manipulating dead flesh, Jacob may accept the orcish beliefs and allow himself to succumb to the blight. This will happen after he uses the power to help defeat Dave ideally. But that would be sad, and Mookie has a low threshold for such things so eh.

Well, let's look at the new strip.

Clearly, these are the incoherent, feverish thoughts of a man in his last minutes.

    Soon, death will claim him.

Which apparently means he will be immortal. Or something.

The only thing I get out of this is that Rilian made a palette swap of white magic, called it a new school of magic to come off as a brilliant inventor instead of a mad scientist type, and lived for thousands of years thanks to twisted white magic without ever being found out until now, even avoiding the scrutiny of several Deegans. It took the unbeatable combination of ethnic mystic insights imparted to a mighty Deegan to finally see it for what it is.

    What a man.

Am I the only one lost here?

I see the words, I recognize each one separately, I can understand the grammar, and I guess it's supposed to explain something about necromancy, but that's about it.

White magic, as the one that Greg had, or different?
    What balance?
    What imbalance?
Is he trying to talk to the bomb and convince it politely to be balanced?

It's not like we ever had an explanation about magic, but now this part of the world building is supposed to be in the center of the story, but I have no clue what he's talking about.

The Blight is imbalanced white magic? Imbalanced with WHAT, exactly? What does that even mean? It's like a fortune cookie . . . it almost sounds like something, but then you think about it for two seconds, and you realize that it's nonsensical.

"The Blight is white magic's imbalance . . . in bed."
