Re: Goblins X: Orcs fall, everybody dies (horribly)
Weren't you listening? It's heavy!
Forgath's player must be really into roleplaying finicky minor details and damn the consequences. I don't think anyone I've ever played with would care about the weight of a weapon beyond checking that they're not breaking an encumbrance limit.Like 4X (aka Civilization-like) gaming? Re: Goblins X: Orcs fall, everybody dies (horribly)
Yeah, a funny line, but its pretty damned face-palmy. I doubt Forgath the dwarven Cleric who lugs around heavy armor all the damned time has to worry about an 8 pound (or so) mace, especially if it was holstered in some way(strap, loop attached to his belt, whatever.
Oh and hellz yeah that strip's amazing with the shading(though an option to view original would be nice, even if only for the contrast)Last edited by Susano-wo; 2013-01-17 at 04:32 PM.

Re: Goblins X: Orcs fall, everybody dies (horribly)
yeah, and? I'm saying he lugs around so much weight that mace isn't gonna make much of a difference, especially since he's likely to have good physical stats

Re: Goblins X: Orcs fall, everybody dies (horribly)
Thing is, good armor has straps and padding and such so the weight is distributed. It's like how it's easier to carry a book in a backpack instead of in your arms, even though it's the same weight (and in the latter case you also add the weight of the backpack).
Actually, it's pretty much exactly like that.

Re: Goblins X: Orcs fall, everybody dies (horribly)
yeah, the weight is easier to bear...but there's a lot of it, especially on the extremities(well, not the weight, but the effects of it would be felt more). strapping a mace to your side or whatnot would not significantly affect Forgath, at least not enough to not have his weapon available.
I could buy him having to take time to unfasten it, especially if it was tightly secured, but its just not credible that he would risk his weapon being unavailable if something happens to Minmax, or in the unlikely occurance that Minmax goes off half-cocked

Susan has a point, while yeah, holding it in your hands at all time would wear anyone down, putting it in a belt loop wouldnt. Its just a really stupid joke setup.

Perhaps the mace is made of heavytanium, and thus weighs loads more than a normal mace

To be fair, Forgath has ALWAYS kept the mace in a backpack, all the way back since the first battle with the Warcamp.
We really shouldn't be surprised about it by now.

Who cares? It's perfectly in character and it makes sense in universe. It's not the wisest thing in the world to do...but these aren't exactly the wisest characters so that's ok as well.

Re: Goblins X: Orcs fall, everybody dies (horribly)
Just because he has it doesn't mean he knows how to use it....
On a possibly related subject, I dealt with the monitor issue today...sort of. I confirmed that my monitor's physical wheel for Contrast is at maximum, so I turned Brightness up and am now able to see the grays in the strip properly. However I expect that I will regret this decision the next time I wake up in a dark room. And I did not find any controls under Display in my Control Panel which allow for fine-tuning of brightness/contrast; they appear to be left entirely under the control of those two wheels under my monitor. There isn't even an onscreen display, let alone software access.

Re: Goblins X: Orcs fall, everybody dies (horribly)
The Contrast being all the way up would, as I recall CRTs, be the reason your near-black was being contrasted down closer to black. Lowering the contrast would make your blacks brighter, and bringing the near-black up to not entirely black, without increasing the brightness of your white. Although with the way CRTs sometimes behave the two aren't necessarily entirely independent of each other.

Re: Goblins X: Orcs fall, everybody dies (horribly)
Unfortunately turning down the contrast even a little just makes everything a washed-out gray. I almost wonder if the wheels are labeled backwards, as contrast appears to darken everything while brightness only appears to brighten the whites.
Don't use a screensaver; I just turn the monitor off. When I have historically had a screensaver, it would often cut in while I was reading or something; it became caustic to my limited patience and I stopped bothering. Besides which, even when the screen is black, it's glowing black. In the first seconds of wakefulness even that's enough to hurt my eyes.

Re: Goblins X: Orcs fall, everybody dies (horribly)
That last panel was just Jack levels of unclear fight scene. For all the ragging Thunt gets on his fight scenes, you can always at least tell what's going on in them. Apparently, the Battle of Brassmoon couldn't break the streak, but zombies, for whatever reason, did. Thanks for clarifying, Mamath.
Don't blame me. I voted for Kodos.
