    Whatever your reason for being in Port Peril, you each spent the previous night drinking at the Formidably Maid, a notorious drinking establishment in Port Peril. For Xavius, it was the thrill of the drink and enjoyment of spinning a tale. For Bartolomea, it was seeing the bottom of too many bottles. For Nas, the brawny chest and dusky eyes of a attentative man stole your heart; then his friends beat you senseless. For the Qadiran, it was the food and the wine; both taken a little too liberally. For Elinor and Crey, the news and ale of the Maid were too much. A trip down to the docks to take in a view of the sea was more to your likings. The last thing you remember is a blow to the back of your head and the waves rushing up to meet you.

    You wake up the following morning in complete darkness. You all remember the night before — the ringing laughter of a wild night, the heady joy of excess, the scents of rich stewed meat and perfume lingering in your nostrils. But the joyful memories are quickly stirred away by painful reality — a pounding headache, the sickly taste of cheap wine in your mouths, the hard floor soaked in the smell of brine, a rhythmic creaking noise, and the feeling of the room swaying, as if you were still drunk. Before you can do much more than sit up, however, several pairs of heavy footsteps enter the dark room, and the harsh light of a lantern painfully spears into your eyes.

    By the faint light of the lantern, seven men surrounding you. Six of them are armed with saps. The seventh holds the lantern in one hand and a savage whip in the other. An expression that might be mistaken for pain but which is clearly an attempt at a smile bruises his face as he cracks the whip in his hand and screams, “Still abed with the sun over the yardarm? On your feet, ye filthy swabs! Get up on deck and report for duty before Cap’n Harrigan flays your flesh into sausage skins and has Fishguts fry ye up for breakfast!"

    Xavius, sits up at the sound of a familliar voice. The voice of a pirate. I'm not on a ship again am I? he thinks to himself. When he sees the five other people laid down around him and the seven pirates surrouding him, he jumps to his feet with fright. Umm... What am I doing here. THe last thing I can remember is the telling of my tale and then BOOM! I'm out cold. He looks closely at the man with the manacing whip and snarl on his face. Oh, god.

    Okay, clearly on a ship. Unfriendly men, and mean-sounding captain. Best not to argue.

    She leaps up, her soft body a stark contrast to the assembled men and salutes.

    Groaning from his previous night's escapde, Bartholomeo sits up and grimaces at the bitter taste left within his mouth. I suppose that's what you get when you enter into a drinking contest with a dwarf...

    He stands up and appraises the man before for him, a rough sort but probably mostly talk. He looks at the woman to his right and smirks at her acceptance to the situation, now whether it was due to necessity or actual sincerity was the true question but Bart could guess which one it was.

    Sweeping his braid back he straightens up and calmly walks towards the men only stopping to say a single phrase to the man with the whip "Watch yourself, if you use that whip on myself I will make sure you live long enough to regret it." He flashes a bright smile and proceeds to make his way to the maindeck.

    Xavius, is fearful inside but when he realise that there are others around him he decides to go for his old lieing about being a pirate all along. Arr, so I see I've been put on a ship, this is probably due to my old pirating days. I suppose I'll come in handy on this ship then. And then to the others on board. I used to be proper pirate you know, hence the hook hand. He holds up the hand. I got it in a battle whilst deuling a mighty kraken, who sucked my hand right, so it did. Anyway, what's my job, entertainer and deulist I suppose. Enemies have always been fearful at my expet is swordsmanship.

    Before the men come in, Crey takes in his surroundings.

    I remember this smell. I am in the bottom of a ship. How did I get here? Must have been unconcious. I should have known better. At least I am on a ship though, which was where I wanted to be.

    Crey comes fully awake at the sound of the man's voice.

    I thought I left this sort of junk behind...

    He gets a look at the whip in his hand.

    Maybe this isn't the kind of ship I wanted to be aboard though...

    Remembering the retired military instructors from his school and their methods for lollygagging Crey decides he will opt to obey, for now. He jumps to his feet like the woman does and gives his best cadet shout

    Nas remembered the night before quite well. Unfortunately, she remembered every little fricking detail. She even dreamt about it when she was unconscious. That guy, the one that had caught her eye after a few drinks, had invited her into a back alley. The kind of fun that was waiting for her wasn't what she had intended. She hadn't even been able to set off one of her bombs before taking the smack to the back of the head.

    Now she felt the swaying of the boat. It was, to her, a familiar and somewhat comforting feeling after the long night she had. It, of course, also made absolutely no sense. She hadn't been aboard a ship the night before. Which must mean...

    Her eyes opened to confirm her fears. Press ganged. "Dammit. Dammit. Dammit. Dammit!" On her best day Nas couldn't look anything less then terrifying if she put an effort into it. It's unfortunate that this was certainly not her best day. Instead of standing up and facing down the men without fear, her words bringing about a stinging rebuke that would make a fire seem cold by comparison, Nas did what anyone with a hangover and a concussion would do. She got halfway onto her feet, cursed in a language no one else could understand, possibly a mixture of giant and orcish, and then immediately fell down again when the ship rocked.

    Elinor warily reaches her feet, a little unsteadily. Her head pounded mercilessly, probably from the whack on the head last night. She rubbed her forearm as she arose, partly because her arm hurt and partly too see if her knife was still there. She shifted behind some of the larger folks there, trying to stay unnoticed as much as possible.

    Nas curses again, this time using a mixture of dwarven and elven. It soundly musically violent and almost painful to even say, nonetheless hear. Still she stood up, gave the man with the whip a look that held many promises of pain, and headed for the stairs toward the deck with the others. She knew fighting would be pointless. The group down below was one of many and without any of her equipment she was screwed. She'd have to find where it was to make a difference and that meant staying alive until she could. The welt on her back smarted though, threatening to bring about Nas' temper with each step.

    The Qadrian winced as she saw Nas get whipped just for an accident. Wordlessly she followed the others up the stairs, though she winced again as she felt certain one of her captors pinched her generous backside.

    Crey makes his way upstairs onto the deck with everyone else. The fact that the man whipped the poor half-orc just for falling down did not bode well for the leadership of the vessel

    The 7 pirates herd you up a creaky flight of stairs that lead into another hold. With what little light the lantern gives off from behind you and a little bit of light from the stairwell in front of you, you can hardly tell what is in this hold but from what you see, there is very little. From outside the ring of light, you do hear animal grunts and snorts. The men continue to push and goad you up the next flight of stairs where the light of the sun temporarily blinds you and sets the pounding in your heads to beat harder.

    I need Perception AND Intelligence checks from everyone.

    Once on deck, you realize you are on a sizeable ship in the middle of the ocean, far from any land. Port Peril and the mainland of the Shackles are just an ochre haze many miles astern. Figures cluster around the ship’s mainmast, looking up at the higher deck on the stern, where two figures stand. One of them is a broad, muscular Garundi man with a shaven head, a long beard bound with gold rings, and an eye patch - clearly the captain. The other is a younger, balding man with a long black ponytail, wearing a long coat and carrying a well-used cat-o’-nine-tails.

    You quickly realize you are not the only new "recruits" onboard. There are four others as well, easily discerned by their relative cleanliness and apparent unease over their new vocations. A dozen or so other pirates, clearly members of the crew, stand about on the deck or in the rigging.

    “Glad you could join us at last! Welcome to the Wormwood! My thanks for ‘volunteering’ to join my crew. I’m Barnabas Harrigan. That’s Captain Barnabas Harrigan to you, not that you’ll ever need to address me. I have only one rule—don’t speak to me. I like talk, but I don’t like your talk. Follow that rule and we’ll all get along fine.

    “Oh, and one more thing. Even with you new recruits, we’re still short-handed, and I aim to keep what crew I have. There’ll be a keelhaulin’ for anyone caught killin’ anyone. Mr. Plugg! If you’d be so kind as to make pirates out of these landlubbers, it’ll save me having to put them in the sweatbox for a year and a day before I make pies out of ’em.”


    At the end of his speech, the captain walks away, leaving behind the man with the cat-o’-nine-tails. You presume that this is Mister Plugg, the Wormwood’s first mate. He looks down at you and other impressed captives and smiles unpleasantly.

    "Alright ya swabs! As the cap'n said, it's me job to turn ya inta decent pirates. An the first order of business is we need a new man ta work the rigging. So get to it! The first one of ya to the crow's nest is me new rigger." He unfurls his whip to show he's not waiting for lollygaggers.

    Bart doesn't even bother scrambling up the rigging, he knew his way around a ship and his talents were better served elsewhere. So he stood facing this so called Mr. Plugg who was responsible for this 'recruitment' glaring at him defiently with his one eye. Crossing his arms he begins to smirk at the man, almost daring him to try to use the whip, Bart may not have his sword but he still had his spells. If the bastard lashed at him, then Mr. Pug would soon find himself on his back helpless or tossed overboard like a rag doll. Bart casually spits over board and glances up at the scrambling man while saying with a chuckle "Looks like you have yourself a new rigger. What else do you have need of doing?"

    Elinor considers the tall mast carefully, comparing it to the short sail of her father's fishing vessel, and decides against it. She glares daggers at the captain and "Mr. Plugg" and briefly entertains the notion of telling them exactly what her father will do to them when he finds them, but shortly realizes that she is A. On a pirate ship facing down the captain and B. Utterly unarmed and without allies.

    Keeping these facts in mind, she turns to Mr. Plugg, and tries to subtly direct him aside. "Excuse me? If you wanted pirates, I can't think why you um. Recruited. Me? I suppose you wanted someone to work in the galley, correct? I'd be happy to do my part by cooking, as that's about all I'm qualified to do on a ship like this."

    A kitchen would be good. Kitchens have knives, fire and boiling water, and are away from the eyes of the crewmen... Yes

    I had a skill point in both profession sailor, Knowledge Engineering and craft woodwork, so I'm going to make a roll for each to see what Nas knows about the type of ship their on and it's making and such.. I will be making an entirely new sheet on DnD sheets so this doesn't happen again. Fricking myth weavers.

    OCC: My apologies, I need 7 more climb checks from everyone. The crows nest is 60 ft above the deck and everyone moves at 1/4 speed for climbing. I'll take the first round of rolls as the first 7 feet climbed. Just number the rolls and I will take them in order for the remainder of the test.

    Crey leads the group as he makes quick work through the rigging on his way to the crows nest. Xavius and the Qadrin are close to one another in height but are a bit behind him.
    Mr. Plugg eyes the remaining three and then says to Elinor, "A scullery wench, perfect! Fishguts be needing some help in the galley. Off wit ya. Ya need to be seeing him immediately! He points to one of the crew who comes over and directs you to the galley. He then looks to Bartlolmeo and Nas. "Well, it be lookin like we have 2 volunteers to be swabs, then! Ya need to be seeing Master Scourge, he'll make sure ya don't be wasting any more of me time!"
    Lily: What's happening?
    The Doctor: No idea. Do what I do; hold tight and pretend its a plan.
