I think part of the issue is that the art style somehow looks a little too close to the toys as opposed to the show itself.

Rarity certainly has put up her hooves several times. In the Changling fight (Ep 2.26) the still shot of her at the end can certainly be interpreted as a Cross Punch.

Sigh. I hate the no-snitching kind of storyline. I hope Applebloom ends up learning a lesson about asking for help. It's seriously one of the most stupid stereotypes, especially since it derives from a self-help culture where the police were quite hostile to most minorities and really isn't applicable in most places anymore.

Aside from the snitching thing, the CMC actually seemed pretty mature about the whole thing. Scootaloo correctly observing that she turned to the dark side, and they don't seem clueless or stupid, just surprised and upset. Hopefully the episode has some interesting twists, rather than the "mean girls" being mean the whole episode until they get their comeuppance at the end.

As for the twists, my guess is that Babs isn't that bad, and she's only bullying because she's afraid of being bullied herself. Just look at her face at the blank flank crack. Maybe she was bullied back in Manehatten and just can't face being bullied in Ponyville too. It's no excuse, but it might be an explanation.

It is possible that the episode could be going that way, though I can easily see it talking about how even bullies have reasons for their actions. At any rate, I don't think it's unusual for children to be worried about being known as a tattletale. I can certainly remember a time when I would go along with something like that.
I do hope they discredit that a bit in the episode, though. Kids really shouldn't feel afraid to tell an adult if something's wrong.

Eh, I'd like it to be true, but peer pressure is still a very strong influence. Plus, people simply lack empathy and forget how it really looked, unless they were victims of real bullying themselves. And even then they often look only from perspective of their own arse - not that long ago, a few guys dared to tell me* that they know everything about being bullied and that everyone was bullied, no big deal. No, mr. Fit Majority Male, minorities have it far worse than you, and unlike you I know it because I happened to belong to actual minority in school. Not especially bad one, but it opened my eyes to how bad real alone kids from minorities have.

I'd like the lesson to be this - being blank flank is bad, being blank flank from city in a village school where even your voice marks you as different is far worse, and it was the only reason Babs behaved like that, trying to belong to something that resembled city pony group, though I doubt it.

*And incidentally, it was on Pony IRC. Love and tolerance?

I think it's pretty cool. Although Applejack's skin tone is not something that I would consider humanly possible. Like, I guess she's supposed to have a tan? But it's just too close to her actual pony color.
