Re: [Nexus] OOC 35: Winter is Coming
Ah, it bears mentioning that this isn't the first time I've participated in message board PbP. Once upon a time, I was very active on the original Wizards PbP community - that is, before it all succumbed to madness*.
Things move much faster here, and the forums are structured differently. I suppose it'll just take some getting used to.

STUFFED CRUST! You can eat it in reverse! *gromnomnom*
In addition to the advice TE gave, maybe ask for a scene with someone in this thread once you have your character concept solidified so you aren't waiting around for someone to bite on your opening post, which can get sort of disheartening. It'll also probably give you a better idea of what thread you'd like to post in to accommodate who you're playing with, and picking from the many dozens of Nexus threads has been daunting for some new players.
And in general, if you haven't read the FFRP guidelines and Nexus stuff posts then that's always a good place to start. They're both linked in the sig of our very own happyturtle, as well as the opening post of this thread unless I'm mistaken. Some of the unique challenges when jumping into non-structured RP can be found there, as well as jumping into Nexus-based non-structured RP which is crazier than titmice on crackers.

For anyone in plots run by me, know that I always tailor solutions to those in the plot. The answer may not be obvious, but it's there, and doable by the displayed abilities of the present characters. If you need help or hints, I'll try to be available to provide them.

I guess that's my cue! *points to sig below*
Also, feel free to steal this smilie when you're having trouble getting noticed. Sometimes players skim threads and can miss a lone little post by someone new.

By the way Phantom, I've got a character who'd join in that treasure-hunt plot of yours.

Re: [Nexus] OOC 35: Winter is Coming
...So, uh, hi. I'm CLY. I'm a person, a person with an interest in RP stuff. Particularly this one. Seems interesting enough.
Assuming I can decide how to start things off, of course. I mean, I've got a character in mind (for however much a self-insert actually counts as a character...), but not a clear idea how to start things up. Suggestions?

Re: [Nexus] OOC 35: Winter is Coming
Welcome aboard!
Don't worry about self-inserting; my first character was pretty much a Walter Mitty version of me (as a half-ghost, but...) and I'm pretty sure Kerfuffle had "himself" early on too. Among others.
The traditional start is in a tavern, of course; that'd be Trog's Tavern. Alternatively you could send someone to the mall (Mallside)!

Re: [Nexus] OOC 35: Winter is Coming
As a rule of thumb having your character begin in one of the inns is never a bad idea. There's usually a handful of other players in there that you could interact with at any given time. If you have your characters already planned out with what direction you want to take them in you could always have them join of the several organizations. For instance, if you plan on creating a dastardly villain AMEN would be a good place to put them in. A kindly and altruistic person would fit well in GLoG.
tl;dr - Inns or one of the Acros would be a solid decision.Last edited by Time for Never; 2013-01-19 at 02:10 AM.

Re: [Nexus] OOC 35: Winter is Coming
There's two drinking/socializing establishments and two very general areas that you can adjust to suit your needs. Plus plenty of PCs willing to give directions, mine included. There's a character directory once you get all your ideas down.
Also, my Jace is a (sort of) blatant self insert, with his familiar just being a cuddly, snarkier version of the same person, so that's fine.Last edited by Deathkeeper; 2013-01-19 at 02:06 AM.

Re: [Nexus] OOC 35: Winter is Coming
Well, that's certainly a nice welcome. And one that provides much in the way of choices... Though knowing
myselfCly, I'd have to say Mallside might work somewhat better than a tavern.
So, yeah, I'll get to making an introductory post.

...Maybe starting at this time of day wasn't such a good idea...
Edit: Yeah, bad idea. It's pretty late here, so I might as well call it a night.
