Re: OOTS #388 - The Discussion Thread
I didn't get any of the references at all. However, it was still a pretty good comic, if not as good as the last one. Looking forward to the next.

Re: OOTS #388 - The Discussion Thread
*dies of laughing*
No seriously. Don't think I've laughed *that* hard at a strip in a long time. And I'd just finished NWN2 with its mildly WTF?-but-wait-there-must-be-a-sequel ending, so I wasn't coming in with a mood where even a giggle comes easily, and here I am, totally different genre of game, laughing my little patootie off.
Heck, even before the airship it was pretty amusing.
Elan and Thog make a beautiful couple, btw. No, not that way but... it's like Dumb and Dumber, except actually funny.Last edited by DeathQuaker; 2006-12-11 at 11:49 PM.

*confus'd at references* Nonetheless, I love Elan's disguise. He CAN get more adorable! Shocking! And thog is just as brilliant in a mascot outfit as 387's shirtless purple-shorts :D
Get home, save Haley! *push Elan & thog*

Haha nice reference on the FF6! Loved the comic. You even spelled Fenix down right (according to the game). Great job!

Final Fantasy VI?
*Squeal!*
I love that game. And Mog is definitely underrated. His dances are surprisingly powerful.Or is it only that I need not flaunt my power in such an infantile test of will?

Re: OOTS #388 - The Discussion Thread
You people haven't played FF6? For shame!
But seriously, now Elan dressed as Locke Cole makes sense(although he lost the wig and the headband apparently). I guess that means Elan probably didn't take any other class levels, he just happens to still be in most of his Locke costume when he breaks into the hotel.

Re: OOTS #388 - The Discussion Thread
All of the references (including the title) are to the Final Fantasy VI video game, released back in the 90's as Final Fantasy III on the old SNES console. All of the characters are playable characters from that game, including Elan and Thog's costumes, and the airship that you use to get from place to place is called the Blackjack (as this one is). Fenix Down is what you use to raise characters who have been "K.O.'d" (their euphamism for "killed").
And to anyone who thinks Rich doesn't plan all of these things ahead on his own, note that airships have been included as part of Cliffport's scenery from Strip #339, our first look at the city. Nice foreshadowing.

Re: OOTS #388 - The Discussion Thread
Wow. Looks like Elan may have actually put a point or two in Intelligence. That plan was actually workable, or would have been if Thog knew what a Phoenix Down was...
On a side "note", the note that Elan left for the shopkeep was very cute. It made my evening.

Re: OOTS #388 - The Discussion Thread
K, as somebody already said, they're from Final Fantasy 6. For the first comment about not having magic, only 2 of the chars(I think) have magic in the first half of the game, and the speaker is DEFINATELY not one of them.
The little girl is Relm, and her grandfather is Strago, and Aqua Rake is one of the spells he can get.
Also, unless I miss my bet, Elan is posing as the thief(treasure hunter) character Locke, and Thog is dressed as a moogle, which is a staple of the Final fantasy series. And finally, the Fenix Down is the item that brings chars back to life.78% of DM's started their first campaign in a tavern. If you're one of the 22% that didn't, copy and paste this into your signature.

Re: OOTS #388 - The Discussion Thread
I LOVE IT! FFVI RULES!
Those are, by order of appearance: Setzer, the airship owner; Cyan; Celes; Terra; Relm; and Relm's grandfather, Strago. Elan is disguised as Locke, and Thog is disguised as Mog, the Moggle. On the airship, there's Edgar besides Terra.
I only missed Sabin, though. Yet, IT IS FRIGGIN' PERFECT!
Thog saying "kupo" is priceless. Giant, you are the best. The Hundred Second
